Recently I was listening to a podcast related to movies, here they recommended some movies that they considered had been very good according to their criteria and I decided to take some of these movies to add them to my list and thus see movies that I had not planned to do or simply did not know and today I decided to see one of these movies starting with one that caught my attention from the beginning by its name and also by its synopsis, so, welcome dear friends of the community, today I want to tell you my opinion about the movie called "All Of Us Strangers", let's start with the review.

This film, released on December 22, 2023, is a British production that belongs to the genre of drama, fantasy and romance, being a film based on a novel called "Strangers". In this story we will follow our protagonist Adam, a screenwriter who after a strange encounter with his neighbor decides to return to his childhood home, but gets a big surprise when he discovers that his parents (who had died many years ago) live inside the house and not only this, but they have the same appearance and age as before their death.

What happens in the movie?

Let's talk a little bit about what happens in the movie. It begins with a scene of our protagonist Adam (who is a screenwriter) trying to write something, but he can't get his thoughts together. Adam's life seems to be quite lonely and one night the fire alarm sounds, so Adam calmly leaves the building, although the alarm was only a drill, it is appreciated that no one else left the building, but Adam visualizes a person in one of the apartments on the sixth floor, who also seems to see him. Once the alarm has been turned off, Adam returns to his apartment.

Someone knocks on Adam's door and when he opens it it is Harry, who is the other person living in the building and the person Adam saw on the sixth floor. Harry seems to be trying to flirt with Adam and after a strange conversation he invites him to have a drink, but Adam refuses, so Harry tells him to invite him in anyway and they can do whatever he wants, but Adam still thinks it's not a good idea, although he still seems to show some signs of interest, but he still ends up refusing the proposal and closes the door. On the other side, Harry can be seen sad and disappointed, so he goes up to his apartment while drinking.

The next day, while Adam is writing, he rummages through his old things and finds an envelope with some old photographs of him and his parents, which motivates him to take a train and travel to his childhood home. Upon finding the house, he sees through the window a little boy watching him. Adam heads to a park, then walks and stands watching the sunset in a green area, until he notices a man watching him behind him. He turns around and walks away, so Adam starts to follow him. Again, this man turns around, sees Adam and keeps walking. Adam sees the man inside a store and when he is distracted for a few seconds, the man walks towards Adam. They both greet each other and this man asks him if they should leave, to which Adam asks where to and the man replies home.

Arriving at a house, this man talks to a woman, who asks him if he is sure it is him and he replies that she only has to look into his eyes. The woman sees Adam and assures him that it is him and invites him in. They start asking him constant questions about where he lives, if he owns his own home, what he does for a living and each time Adam answers, the woman or man is happy and tells the other that he knew. They both act very loving towards Adam, until the woman looks at him proudly and confirms to us that Adam is her son and that he has come home. But, oddly enough, both parents seem to be the same age as Adam or pretty close. They both relive stories of when Adam was little and have a wonderful time, but Adam must leave. His mother asks him to come back soon once again and Adam accepts. This could all be a normal scene, but the detail is that Adam's parents died many years ago, so how is all this possible?

My opinion about the movie

From this point I will talk about my opinion about it, without mentioning spoilers or the rest of what happens in the movie, in case someone wants to see it on their own. I want to start talking about the story and I found it quite original or at least I have not come across any film with a similar theme, plus I think that here they knew how to intertwine one story with the other, because although there is a main story where everything converges, we have a story of Adam with his parents and another story of Adam with his neighbor, so we will be in constant changes, but they will come to join each other, which seems very well structured and very coherent after the plot twist is known.

In this movie we will only have 4 characters, which will clearly be Adam, his parents and Harry, which are played by some excellent actors. I, for my part, only knew Claire Foy for her participation in "The Crown", but without a doubt they all did an excellent job. It seems to me that each character is very well built, besides contributing a lot to the story, either by the message they are trying to tell or the impact they have on the plot, but undoubtedly the best contribution were the performances and the good execution in moments full of many feelings.

The direction of the scenes are impressive, because while the story hooks you for everything that is happening, the visual aspect certainly allows you to get into these emotions that the characters feel, whether from a smile in love, a proud look or a sigh full of sadness, the way these scenes are composed gives that perfect atmosphere for each person to connect in a sentimental way with the characters and situations, besides not needing some scenes too explicit so you can understand what is happening. I think the direction was an excellent job and so was the use of colors and the contrast of the same generated in each scene.

Finally I want to talk about what for me were the two most important things of the movie, the first is the kind of messages that the movie wants to convey with the story, the situations that are shown to us invite us to reflection from the beginning even if we do not notice it and this keeps the essence of the drama until the end, thus maintaining an impeccable premise, although a little confusing at first, but once all the essential is shown, we understand each of the things that had happened, thus leaving an emotion that I cannot identify perfectly, it is something that you must live. The other important thing is the plot twist in the movie. I have always considered that what we don't expect in the movie is what we always end up liking and personally it was what made me love the movie. It has many elements that are undoubtedly excellent.

Esta película, estrenada el 22 de diciembre del año 2023, es una producción británica que pertenece al género de drama, fantasía y romance, siendo así una película basada en una novela llamada “Strangers”. En esta historia seguiremos a nuestro protagonista Adam, un guionista quien luego de un extraño encuentro con su vecino decide volver a la casa de su infancia, pero se lleva una gran sorpresa al descubrir que sus padres (quienes habían muerto hace muchos años) viven dentro de la casa y no solo esto, sino que tienen la misma apariencia y edad de antes de su muerte.

¿Qué sucede en la película?

Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede en la película. La misma comienza con una escena de nuestro protagonista Adam (quien es un guionista) intentando escribir algo, pero no consigue ordenar sus ideas. La vida de Adam parece ser bastante solitaria y una noche la alarma de incendios suena, por lo que Adam tranquilamente sale del edificio, aunque la alarma solo era un simulacro, se aprecia que nadie más salió del edificio, pero Adam visualiza a una persona en uno de los departamentos en el sexto piso, quien también parece verlo a él. Una vez la alarma se ha apagado, Adam regresa a su departamento.

Alguien toca la puerta de Adam y cuando abre se trata de Harry, quien es la otra persona que vive en el edificio y la persona que Adam vio en el sexto piso. Harry parece estar tratando de coquetear con Adam y luego de una conversación un poco extraña le invita a beber, pero Adam se niega, por lo que Harry le dice que igual le invite a entrar y pueden hacer lo que él quiera, pero Adam sigue pensando que no es una buena idea, aunque parece igual dar algunas señales de interés, pero igual termina negando la proposición y cierra la puerta. Del otro lado se puede apreciar a Harry triste y decepcionado, por lo que sube a su piso mientras bebe.

Al día siguiente, mientras Adam escribe, rebusca en sus cosas viejas y encuentra un sobre con algunas viejas fotografías de él y sus padres, lo que le motiva a tomar un tren y viajar a la casa de su infancia. Al encontrar la casa, ve por la ventana a un pequeño niño viéndole. Adam se dirige a un parque, luego camina y se queda viendo el atardecer en un área verde, hasta que se percata de que un hombre está viéndole detrás de él. Este se da media vuelta y camina, por lo que Adam empieza a seguirle. Nuevamente, este hombre voltea, ve a Adam y sigue caminando. Adam ve al hombre dentro de una tienda y cuando se distrae unos pocos segundos, el hombre camina hacia Adam. Ambos se saludan y este hombre le pregunta si deben irse, a lo que Adam pregunta que a dónde y el hombre le responde que a casa.

Al llegar a una casa, este hombre habla con una mujer, quien le pregunta si está seguro de que es él y este le responde que solo debe verle a los ojos. La mujer ve a Adam y asegura que es él y le invita a entrar. Empiezan a hacerle constantes preguntas sobre dónde vive, si tiene casa propia, a qué se dedica y cada vez que Adam responde, la mujer o el hombre se alegra y le dice al otro que lo sabía. Ambos se comportan muy amorosos con Adam, hasta que la mujer lo mira orgullosa y nos confirma que Adam es su hijo y que ha vuelto a casa. Pero, es extraño, ambos padres parecen tener la misma edad que Adam o bastante cercana. Ambos reviven historias de cuando Adam era pequeño y pasan un momento maravilloso, pero Adam debe irse. Su madre le pide que regrese pronto una vez más y Adam acepta. Todo esto podría ser una escena normal, pero el detalle es que los padres de Adam murieron hace muchos años, así que, ¿cómo es posible todo esto?

Mi opinión sobre la película

A partir de este punto hablaré de mi opinión al respecto, sin mencionar spoilers o el resto de lo que sucede en la película, por si alguien desea verla por su cuenta. Quiero empezar hablando de la historia y es que esta me pareció bastante original o al menos yo no me he encontrado con alguna película con temática similar, además que considero que aquí supieron entrelazar una historia con la otra, porque si bien hay una historia principal donde todo converge, tenemos una historia de Adam con sus padres y otra historia de Adam con su vecino, por lo que estaremos en constantes cambios, pero que llegarán a juntarse entre sí, lo que me parece muy bien estructurado y con mucha coherencia luego que se conoce el giro de trama.

En esta película contaremos solo con 4 personajes, los cuales claramente serán Adam, sus padres y Harry, los cuales son interpretados por unos excelentes actores. Yo, por mi parte, solo conocía a Claire Foy por su participación en “The Crown”, pero sin dudas todos hicieron un excelente trabajo. Me parece que cada personaje está muy bien construido, además de aportar bastante en la historia, ya sea por el mensaje que intentan contar o el impacto que tiene en la trama, pero sin dudas el mejor aporte fueron las actuaciones y la buena ejecución en momentos llenos de muchos sentimientos.

La dirección de las escenas son impresionantes, porque si bien la historia te engancha por todo lo que está ocurriendo, el aspecto visual sin dudas te permite adentrarte en estas emociones que sienten los personajes, ya sea desde una sonrisa enamorada, una mirada orgullosa o un suspiro lleno de tristeza, la manera en que estas escenas están compuestas da ese ambiente perfecto para que cada persona conecte de manera sentimental con los personajes y con las situaciones, además de no necesitar algunas escenas demasiado explicitas para que se pueda entender lo que está ocurriendo. Me parece que la dirección fue un excelente trabajo y también lo fue el uso de los colores y el contraste del mismo generado en cada escena.

Por último quiero hablar de lo que para mí fueron las dos cosas más importantes de la película, la primera es el tipo de mensajes que la película quiere transmitir con la historia, las situaciones que se nos muestran nos invitan a la reflexión desde el principio aunque no lo notemos y esto mantiene la esencia del drama hasta el final, manteniendo así una premisa impecable, aunque un poco confusa al principio, pero una vez que todo lo esencial es mostrado, entendemos cada una de las cosas que habían ocurrido, dejando así una emoción que no puedo identificar a la perfección, es algo que deben vivir ustedes. La otra cosa importante es el giro de trama en la película. Siempre he considerado que aquello que no esperamos en la película es lo que siempre termina gustando y en lo personal fue lo que me hizo adorar la película. Tiene muchos elementos que sin duda son excelentes.
