A couple of days ago I was talking with a friend about our favorite romance movies, since we both like that genre, but when she mentioned her favorite movies I honestly hadn't seen any of them, so yesterday after finishing with my busy schedule we decided to watch one of them, I was curious to know what made it so good and one of her favorites, so welcome dear friends of the movie and TV lovers community, today I want to talk about the movie called "The Perfect Date", let's start with the review.

This movie released on April 12, 2019 is an American production that belongs to the genre of romance and of course goes hand in hand with comedy. This movie that belongs to the Netflix catalog is based on a novel by Steven Bloom. Here we will follow the story of our protagonist Brooks, a high school student who wants to go to a great university, but does not have the necessary resources, so together with his friend they create a kind of dating app to offer their services and thus obtain the necessary income to go to college, but their elaborate plan is complicated when he begins to have feelings for someone.

What happens in the movie?

Let's talk a bit about the first few minutes of the movie. The film begins with the voice of our protagonist Brooks narrating what he wrote in his college letter, which honestly isn't the best because it fails to describe who he really is. Brooks wants to go to Yale, but his father wants him to go to another college where he won't have to spend as much money, but Brooks assures him that he will figure it out and that his father doesn't have to worry about money. Brooks works in a food establishment along with his best friend Murph, here thanks to their conversation we find out that Brooks' parents separated, his father, on the one hand, didn't know how to cope with things and seems to have given up, on the other hand, his mother decided to leave town leaving Brooks with his father.

While Brooks and Murph are working two other students arrive, one of them talks about taking his cousin to a dance and that his uncle will pay him, but he really doesn't want to do it to spend time alone with his girlfriend, so Brooks takes advantage of the moment and tells him that he will take his cousin, on the condition that he gets paid and that he lets him use his luxury car and although at first they think it's a joke, they end up accepting the deal. The night arrives and Brooks heads out to find the girl, her name is Celia, a girl with a rather rebellious attitude towards her parents and everything around her, but Brooks is really doing a good job, he adapts to the situation and seems to be offering a full date service.

Celia really didn't want to go to her high school dance, so she would rather go to a café, but Brooks ends up convincing her to go to the dance and that they will have a nice time. They both dance and seem to start getting along, but Brooks in the distance fixes his gaze on a girl and carelessly ends up stepping on Celia, who complains because Brooks twisted her ankle, so she lies down and Brooks brings her some ice. Just at that moment the girl that Brooks had noticed before comes to talk to Celia to invite them both to a party at her house and although Brooks is interested, Celia refuses and they prefer to leave it for another time, the girl says goodbye, but first she introduces herself to Brooks, her name is Shelby.

Brooks and Celia head home, here she jokes about how well Brooks chaperoned, so he should make a business out of it, there sure would be girls in need of someone to chaperone them. Upon arriving at Celia's house, Brooks discovers that Celia actually faked her ankle and they have a very mild argument about not letting Brooks go to Shelby's party. The night ends, Brooks gets paid and returns home. Thanks to the success of the previous night, Brooks approaches his friend Murph about creating a personalized dating app where each girl can select the personality and interests he should have, plus a whole lot more. All this with the intention of earning money to be able to cover Yale's expenses, although he hasn't been accepted yet, Brooks plans to make it. Murph agrees to do the application because it would be good for his college application. When the application is done and up and running, Brooks' long journey of dating different girls and adopting a different personality and interests for each date begins. What could possibly go wrong?

My opinion about the movie

From this point on I will only talk about my opinion regarding the movie, starting with the story. Certainly, there are many movies that revolve around dating species through an app, but I feel that in this movie we can appreciate a more original story where the real outcome is not based on finding love, but on being able to go to college and this is the main premise, but the twists in the plot is what really twist the main premise a bit and gives some variety in what happens, which makes it something beyond a story of overcoming and I feel that this distinguishes it from other similar movies, thus giving a quite entertaining story.

Although the film is a romance and comedy, I consider that its strong point is the comedy, because there are a number of quite funny scenes, plus jokes based on irony which go hand in hand with the characters, who on their own even get to be funny for their attitudes, so in most of the film it is very likely that laughter is present or at least in my case I was laughing since the movie started. On the other hand, although there is romance in the film, I consider that it is not the strongest and honestly this seemed to me the most accurate, because it does not feel like something far-fetched, forced or that had to happen if or if, so it gives a certain perception of romance without being exaggerated, I would say that it contains the ideal.

One negative point that I do want to mention is the obviousness in the movie, I would dare to say that those who have seen many romance movies may know perfectly what will happen, maybe not perfectly with the plot, but with some characters and it seems to me that it takes away some of the magic to the intrigue, but I can also understand it because honestly the plot is not the most complex I have ever seen in a movie and while this does not affect the enjoyment of the movie, it did take away the surprise factor of knowing the things that would happen, but this is my personal opinion, maybe other people do not mind so much, it will depend on the tastes of each person.

Finally, I want to talk a little bit about the characters, here we will count with some main characters and some secondary ones, although the secondary ones go very unnoticed, the main ones really do an excellent job, I would even dare to say that changing the main characters the movie would not be so funny, since I consider that part of the attraction of the movie goes hand in hand with the actors and the chemistry between them. In general terms the movie really fulfilled my expectations, it was fun, it had sentimental moments, some reflective ones and it fulfills the objective of leaving a message about everything that happens, so now I understand why it is one of my friend's favorites, so I recommend it completely, it was a good way to invest my time and it is a movie that I would watch again without doubts, I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Esta película estrenada el 12 de abril del año 2019 es una producción estadounidense que pertenece al género del romance y por supuesto va de la mano con la comedia. Esta película que pertenece al catálogo de Netflix está basada en una novela de Steven Bloom. Aquí seguiremos la historia de nuestro protagonista Brooks, un estudiante de secundaria que desea ir a una gran universidad, pero no cuenta con los recursos necesarios, por lo que junto a su amigo crean una especie de aplicación de citas para ofrecer sus servicios y así obtener los ingresos necesarios para ir a la universidad, pero su elaborado plan se complica cuando empieza a tener sentimientos por alguien.

¿Qué sucede en la película?

Hablemos un poco de los primeros minutos de la película. La película comienza con la voz de nuestro protagonista Brooks narrando lo que escribió en su carta para la universidad, la cual honestamente no es la mejor porque no logra describir quién realmente es él. Brooks desea ir a Yale, pero su padre desea que vaya a otra universidad donde no tendrá que gastar tanto dinero, pero Brooks asegura que lo resolverá y que su padre no tiene por qué preocuparse por el dinero. Brooks trabaja en un establecimiento de comida junto a su mejor amigo Murph, aquí gracias a su conversación descubrimos que los padres de Brooks se separaron, su padre, por un lado, no supo sobrellevar las cosas y parece haberse rendido, en cambio, su madre decidió irse del pueblo dejando a Brooks con su padre.

Mientras Brooks y Murph trabajan llegan otros dos estudiantes, uno de ellos habla que debe llevar a su prima a un baile y que su tío le pagará, pero realmente no desea hacerlo para pasar tiempo a solas con su novia, por lo que Brooks aprovecha el momento y le dice que él llevará a su prima, con la condición de recibir el pago y que le deje usar su auto de lujo y aunque al principio piensan que es una broma, terminan aceptando el trato. Llega la noche y Brooks se dirige a buscar a la chica, esta se llama Celia, una chica con una actitud bastante rebelde hacia sus padres y hacia todo lo que le rodea, pero Brooks realmente está haciendo un buen trabajo, se adapta a la situación y parece que está ofreciendo un servicio de cita completa.

Celia realmente no quería asistir al baile de su preparatoria, por lo que prefería ir a un café, pero Brooks termina convenciéndola de ir al baile y que pasarán un momento agradable. Ambos bailan y parecen empezar a llevarse bien, pero Brooks en la lejanía fija su mirada en una chica y por descuido termina pisando a Celia, quien se queja porque Brooks le dobló el tobillo, por lo que se recuesta y Brooks le trae hielo. Justo en ese momento la chica de la que Brooks se había fijado antes se acerca a hablar con Celia para invitarles a ambos a una fiesta en su casa y aunque Brooks está interesado, Celia se niega y prefieren dejarlo para otra ocasión, la chica se despide, pero antes se presenta con Brooks, su nombre es Shelby.

Brooks y Celia se dirigen a casa, aquí ella bromea diciendo lo bien que Brooks hizo de chaperón, por lo que debería hacer de eso un negocio, seguro habría chicas necesitadas de alguien que las acompañe. Al llegar a casa de Celia, Brooks descubre que en realidad Celia fingió lo de su tobillo y tienen una muy leve discusión por no haber dejado que Brooks fuese a la fiesta de Shelby. La noche termina, Brooks recibe su pago y regresa a casa. Gracias al éxito de la noche anterior, Brooks le plantea a su amigo Murph crear una aplicación de citas personalizadas donde cada chica puede seleccionar la personalidad y los intereses que él debe tener, además de muchas otras cosas más. Todo esto con la intención de ganar dinero para poder cubrir los gastos de Yale, aunque todavía no ha sido aceptado, Brooks planea lograrlo. Murph acepta hacer la aplicación porque le vendría bien para su solicitud de la universidad. Cuando la aplicación está terminada y en funcionamiento, comienza una larga travesía de Brooks saliendo con distintas chicas y adoptando una personalidad e intereses distintos para cada cita. ¿Qué podría salir mal?

Mi opinión sobre la película

A partir de este punto solo hablaré sobre mi opinión con respecto a la película, comenzando por la historia. Ciertamente, hay muchas películas que giran en torno a especies de citas por medio de una aplicación, pero siento que en esta película podemos apreciar una historia más original donde el verdadero resultado no se basa en encontrar el amor, sino en poder ir a la universidad y esta es la premisa principal, pero los giros en la trama es lo que realmente tuercen un poco la premisa principal y da cierta variedad en lo que ocurre, lo que la convierte en algo más allá de una historia de superación y me parece que eso la distingue de otras películas similares, dando así una historia bastante entretenida.

Si bien la película es de romance y comedia, considero que su punto fuerte es la comedia, porque hay una cantidad de escenas bastante graciosas, además de chistes basados en ironía los cuales van de la mano con los personajes, quienes por su cuenta incluso llegan a dar gracia por sus actitudes, por lo que en la mayoría de la película es muy probable que la risa haga presencia o al menos en mi caso me estuve riendo desde que comenzó la película. Por otro lado, aunque sí hay romance en la película, considero que no es el fuerte y honestamente esto me pareció lo más acertado, porque no se siente como algo rebuscado, forzado o que tenía que suceder si o si, por lo que da una cierta percepción romance sin llegar a ser exagerado, diría que contiene lo ideal.

Un punto negativo que si quiero mencionar es la obviedad en la película, me atrevería a decir que aquellos que han visto muchas películas de romance podrán saber perfectamente lo que ocurrirá, quizás no a la perfección con la trama, pero sí con algunos personajes y me parece que le quita algo de magia a la intriga, pero puedo entenderlo también porque honestamente la trama no es la más compleja que haya llegado a ver en una película y si bien esto no afecta el disfrutar de la película, si me quitó el factor sorpresa al saber las cosas que ocurrirían, pero esto es en mi opinión personal, quizás a otras personas no les importe tanto, dependerá de los gustos de cada persona.

Por último, quiero hablar un poco de los personajes, aquí contaremos con algunos principales y otros secundarios, si bien los secundarios pasan muy desapercibidos, los principales realmente hacen un excelente trabajo, incluso me atrevería decir que cambiando a los protagonistas la película no sería tan divertida, ya que considero que parte del atractivo de la película va de la mano con los actores y la química entre ellos. En términos generales la película realmente cumplió con mis expectativas, fue divertida, tuvo momentos sentimentales, algunos reflexivos y cumple con el objetivo de dejar un mensaje sobre todo lo que ocurre, por lo que ahora entiendo por qué es de las favoritas de mi amiga, así que se las recomiendo completamente, fue una buena manera de invertir mi tiempo y es una película que volvería a ver sin dudas, le doy un 4 de 5 estrellas.
