Some time ago they had announced the spin-off of a series that I really like, so I had some doubts if it would be as good as the original, so I waited patiently for it to be released, but as it was an episode per week I decided to wait again until it was completely out and once it was finished I decided to give it a try, so, welcome to a new review dear friends of the community, today I want to talk about the spin-off of the series "The Boys", which is called "Gen V", let's start with the review.

This series premiered on September 29, 2023 through the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video and is a direct spin-off of "The Boys" series and is set in the same time as the fourth season of "The Boys". "Gen V" consists of 8 episodes in its first season and the story we are presented revolves around a group of young adult students of the only college for superheroes in the U.S., here each of the students struggle to reach their full potential to be among the top 10 of the university and thus have the opportunity to belong to "The Seven", the elite superheroes of Vought, but things start to get complicated when secrets of the university are revealed, here they all have the task of deciding what kind of heroes they want to be.

Let's talk a little about what happens in the first episode of the season, it all starts with a newscast which announces that A-Train is the first African American to become a member of "The Seven", this is seen by a father and his wife who is excited by the news while their two daughters are playing, His eldest daughter named Marie feels something strange, so she decides to go to the bathroom, she has gotten her period and not only this, it seems that her powers have awakened, seems to control the blood, so she is frightened to see this and falls, which makes her mother enters the bathroom quickly.

Upon entering Marie's mother is killed by her own daughter because of a kind of blood blade that cuts her neck, the noise of everything makes Marie's father also comes to the bathroom, so he starts to ask her what happened, this makes Marie stress and ends up killing her father also not knowing how to control her powers and then her sister observes what happened. Several years have passed and we discover that Marie is in a kind of reformatory after what happened, here she has learned to control her powers more.

Marie has been accepted and given a scholarship to enter the U.S. superhero university, once there she tries to enter certain classes necessary to aspire to be a heroine, but is denied enrollment for certain reasons, this causes her to be upset and a little disappointed in what she thought would be the university. She meets other students, among them some members of the top 10 of the university, among them the number 1, named Luke, who seems to be the aspirant to be part of "The Seven", has an impressive future and is one of the strongest and invincible of the entire university.

Marie decides to talk to the professor who rejected her enrollment and when she enters his office, she notices Luke inside, who has just murdered the professor and upon noticing Marie, decides to murder him as well, so Marie runs for her life and as she leaves the building Luke is still chasing him, as he is near her Luke's best friend appears, he tries to calm him down and talk some sense into him, telling him that they can solve whatever is going on, Luke calms down and approaches his best friend, whispers something in his ear and then Luke flies off, apologizes and explodes, killing himself, this leaves us with the unknown of what must have happened for the student with the most promising future to decide to murder and then kill himself.

From this point I will talk about what I found the series in general aspects without mentioning spoilers for those who have not seen it and I want to start talking about the story, really from the beginning the series starts being very interesting, the way they awaken the powers of each of the "super" brings some consequence and it is something that develops in the series, besides having many subplots that end up contributing to the main plot and everything seems to me meticulously calculated so that at no time we feel that we are wasting time, on the contrary, always pushes us to see the next chapter, it really is a story with a lot of content.

One of the things I loved about "The Boys" is the sense of humor and the lack of fear they have to talk about certain topics no matter who might be uncomfortable, I would dare to say that they are the opposite of "politically correct" and this is maintained in "Gen V" and I think it is one of the reasons (apart from the story) why it is successful and is on par with the main series and is that currently there is much content that is censored, but these series are not and this really makes you see something completely different to what you are used to, without a doubt, a perfect spin-off for such a good series.

I think that as each episode progresses without a doubt they leave you with more doubts and this makes you want to watch more episodes, this was my case, if I had not had things to do, I'm sure I would have watched it in one day, because I really wanted to know what was about to happen, plus there are always discoveries that end up leaving you wanting more, this is something they always do in The Boys and I think it is a very good technique to keep the viewers attentive, the story they tell in this series is somewhat distant from the main story, but it is perfect because it allows to expand a little more the world of The Boys and this leaves a lot to discover.

The final episode of the series without a doubt was the best it could have been, it seems to me that in the previous episodes they come increasing that potential ending and when the moment comes, they really managed to make the ecstasy felt, I would say that it was an unexpected ending, but this is what The Boys has us used to and I know I'm talking a lot about the series when I'm reviewing Gen V, but this is just to imply that Gen V is on par, it can work as a standalone series if you ask me, although it is clearly related to the main one, but I find it very well constructed, so I highly recommend it if you have already seen The Boys.

I finish saying that this is not a series for all audiences, here really find from sexual scenes, suicides, murders and many dark things that are not censored at all, so it is not suitable for everyone, but I really say that it is totally worth watching, it is a series that could undoubtedly be the best in the world of superheroes, even I personally like it more than the world of DC and Marvel, because it is clearly a kind of more realistic superheroes in a real world, but this is a personal taste and maybe I should not compare because they are so different, but well, I hope you found the review entertaining and it has made you want to see it if you have not done it yet, thank you very much for the support. Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede en el primer episodio de la temporada, todo comienza con un noticiero el cual anuncia que A-Train es el primer afroamericano que se vuelve integrante de “Los siete”, esto lo ve un padre de familia junto a su esposa quien se emociona por la noticia mientras sus dos hijas están jugando, su hija mayor llamada Marie siente algo extraño, por lo que decide ir al baño, le ha llegado su periodo y no sólo esto, parece ser que sus poderes han despertado, parece controlar la sangre, por lo que ella se asusta al ver esto y se cae, lo que hace que su madre entre al baño rápidamente.

Al entrar la madre de Marie es asesinada por su propia hija a causa de una especie de cuchilla de sangre que le corta el cuello, el ruido de todo hace que el padre de Marie también llegue al baño, por lo que empieza a preguntarle qué sucedió, esto hace que Marie se estrese y termina asesinando a su padre también al no saber controlar sus poderes y luego su hermana observa lo sucedido. Varios años han pasado y descubrimos que Marie se encuentra en una especie de reformatorio luego de lo que sucedió, aquí ha aprendido a controlar más sus poderes.

Marie ha sido aceptada y se le ha dado una beca para entrar a la universidad de superhéroes de EE.UU, una vez allí intenta entrar a ciertas clases necesarias para aspirar a ser una heroína, pero le es negado la inscripción por ciertos motivos, esto ocasiona que se moleste y se decepcione un poco de lo que pensaba sería la universidad. Conoce a otros estudiantes, entre ellos algunos integrantes de los 10 mejores de la universidad, entre ellos el número 1, llamado Luke, quien parece ser el aspirante a ser parte de “Los Siete”, tiene un futuro impresionante y es uno de los más fuertes e invencibles de toda la universidad.

Marie decide hablar con el profesor que le rechazó su inscripción y cuando entra a su oficina, observa a Luke dentro, quien acaba de asesinar al profesor y al percatarse de Marie, decide asesinarle también, por lo que Marie corre por su vida y al salir del edificio Luke todavía le persigue, al estar cerca de ella aparece el mejor amigo de Luke, éste intenta calmarlo y hacerle entrar en razón, diciéndole que pueden resolver cualquier cosa que esté sucediendo, Luke se calma y se acerca a su mejor amigo, le susurra algo al oído y luego Luke sale volando, se disculpa y explota, suicidándose a sí mismo, esto nos deja con la incógnita de qué ha debido suceder para que el estudiante con el futuro más prometedor decidiese asesinar y luego suicidarse.

A partir de este punto hablaré de lo que me pareció la serie en aspectos generales sin mencionar spoilers para aquellos que no la han visto y quiero comenzar hablando de la historia, realmente desde un principio la serie comienza siendo muy interesante, la manera en que despiertan los poderes de cada uno de los “super” trae consigo alguna consecuencia y es algo que se desarrolla en la serie, además de contar con muchas subtramas que terminan aportando a la trama principal y todo me parece meticulosamente calculado para que en ningún momento nos parezca que estamos perdiendo el tiempo, todo lo contrario, siempre nos empuja a ver el siguiente episodio, realmente es una historia con mucho contenido.

Una de las cosas por la que me encantó “The Boys” es por el sentido del humor y la falta de miedo que tienen para hablar de ciertos temas sin importar a quién le pueda incomodar, me atrevería a decir que son todo lo contrario a lo “políticamente correcto” y esto se mantiene en “Gen V” y me parece que es una de las causas (aparte de la historia) por la cual tiene éxito y está a la par de la serie principal y es que actualmente hay mucho contenido que se censura, pero estas series no y esto realmente hace que veas algo completamente diferente a lo que se está acostumbrado, sin dudas, un spin-off perfecto para tan buena serie.

Considero que mientras avanza cada episodio sin dudas te van dejando con más dudas y esto ocasiona que tengas ganas de ver más episodios, este fue mi caso, si no hubiese tenido cosas qué hacer, estoy seguro que la fuese visto en un único día, porque de verdad quería saber qué era lo que estaba por ocurrir, además que siempre hay descubrimientos que terminan dejando con ganas de más, esto es algo que siempre hacen en The Boys y me parece que es una técnica muy buena para mantener a los espectadores atentos, la historia que cuentan en esta serie está de cierta forma alejada de la historia principal, pero es perfecto porque permite expandir un poco más el mundo de The Boys y esto deja mucho por descubrir.

El episodio final de la serie sin duda fue lo mejor que pudo haber, me parece que en los episodios anteriores vienen aumentando ese final potencial y cuando llega el momento, realmente lograron que el éxtasis se sintiese, diría que fue un final inesperado, pero esto es a lo que nos tiene acostumbrado The Boys y sé que estoy hablando mucho de la serie cuando estoy reseñando Gen V, pero esto sólo es para dar a entender que Gen V está a la par, puede funcionar como serie independiente si me lo preguntan, aunque claramente está relacionada con la principal, pero me parece muy bien construida, por lo que se las recomiendo encarecidamente si ya han visto The Boys.

Finalizo diciendo que esta no es una serie para todo público, aquí realmente encuentran desde escenas sexuales, suicidios, asesinatos y muchas cosas oscuras que no son para nada censuradas, por lo que no es apto para cualquiera, pero realmente digo que vale totalmente la pena verla, es una serie que sin dudas podría ser de lo mejor del mundo de los superhéroes, incluso a mí personalmente me gusta más que el mundo de DC y Marvel, porque claramente es una especie de superhéroes más realistas en un mundo real, pero ya esto es a gusto personal y que quizás no debería comparar por ser tan diferentes, pero bueno, espero que la reseña les haya parecido entretenida y les haya generado ganas de verla si no lo han hecho todavía, muchas gracias por el apoyo. ¡Hasta la próxima!
