I'll be very honest, I've been avoiding watching an anime that many people know and clearly is one of the competitors of the best anime in history for many years. The reason why I have avoided watching it is because of its excessive amount of episodes (and it still hasn't finished, so more will keep coming out), but a few days ago I met a girl who is a big fan of that special anime and I decided to give it a chance, but starting with something softer, its Netflix series version, so, welcome dear friends of the community to a new review, today I want to talk to you about "One Piece", let's start.

This series, released on August 31, 2023 by the Netflix platform, belongs to the genre of action, adventure and comedy. It has 8 episodes, which cover a total of 60 episodes of the anime, because clearly the series is adapted in a more general way. Here we will follow the story of our protagonist named Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who wants to become the king of pirates by getting one of the most important treasures in the world, the famous "One Piece", but to achieve this he must get a crew to accompany him and live many adventures exploring endless oceans.

What happens in the series?

Let's talk a little about what happens in the first episode to know a little more of the story. The episode begins by giving us a small introduction to the world we are about to meet, a place full of mystery and dangers in the seas, where people live with their own rules, their own adventures and these are the pirates. But, just as there are pirates, there is an entity called "The Navy", which tries to enforce the law and lock up the pirates. The navy captured Captain Gold Roger, who was known as "The King of Pirates" and executed him in front of many people, but before he died, Gold Roger said that he had hidden the greatest treasure in the world, the "One Piece" and this instead of being a lesson for pirates, was actually an incentive for more people to become pirates to find this great treasure.

Everything mentioned above happened 22 years ago, so now we move to the present. Here we will meet our protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, a 17 year old young man who from a very young age feels that the sea calls him, so he wants to be a pirate, but not only that, his dream is to find the treasure "One Piece" to become the king of pirates, but for this he first needs to get a crew and also a ship, because right now he is in a small boat which is sinking and to save himself he gets inside a barrel and remains floating adrift.

The barrel ends up being taken by a pirate ship and taken to a kind of warehouse. Luffy gets out of the barrel and meets a young man named Coby who is a slave of the ship's captain, but still tries to help Luffy escape. Here a big conflict unfolds when Luffy is discovered, so a fight starts and Luffy demonstrates his skills and special ability. He shows that his body is made of rubber and the reason for this is that he ate a kind of fruit called "Rubber", which gave him that ability. After Luffy effortlessly finished off the captain, he and Coby take a small boat to escape from the ship to go somewhere else. Luffy's intentions are to find a crew to accompany him in the search for the "One Piece".

My opinion about the series

From this point I will comment only my opinion regarding the series and I also want to clarify that I base my opinion only on the series because honestly I have not seen the anime. Let's start with the story, personally at the beginning I found it a little boring, certainly when they talked about the treasure it caught my attention to find out what is so valuable that now everyone wants to get, but as it progressed if I started to take more affection for the plot, I guess like any beginning of a story the first steps sometimes do not catch you instantly, but the story in general I really liked it, it has a lot of adventure, comedy, action is what is most appreciated and it also has many surprises, so for me that I am new to the world of One Piece really left me wanting to know more.

The action that is evident in the series from beginning to end seemed great and of course it should be one of the things that most stand out, we are talking about pirates and the stories of these characters are usually full of adventures and many conflicts, so being able to show these situations in each episode makes the story quite bearable, Also, they combine action and comedy quite well, because we must remember that our protagonist is just a young man of 17 years old, so there will not always be seriousness in all situations, but do not think that it is pure fun, there are certain nuances that end up leaving much to think about.

As I mentioned above, in this story our character has a great ability, so not being something natural in the real world, it is obvious that there must be special effects in the series and since I saw them I was delighted, I mean, if there really was a person with a rubber body that could stretch, it would look just like in the series, I think the quality of the special effects is very well achieved and not only in that aspect, but also in all the maritime environment, the ships and certain scenarios, clearly I could not say how much is special effect, but without a doubt that which I found very good, I love when you really notice that they put love to the projects doing an impressive job from beginning to end.

Finally, I want to talk about the characters, because believe me, this is something very important in the story and the reason for this is that, there are too many characters that we will get to know, some more important than others, but certainly all of them contribute something to the story. I had to look for the animated characters to compare it a little with the actors and it was really great the choice and the makeup used to make them look as good as in the anime, plus an excellent interpretation of the characters, I have no complaints about that, on the contrary, I was so delighted that I can not wait for the next season, because yes, it was a complete success and they have already announced the confirmation of two more seasons if I am not mistaken, so, take the opportunity to get on the boat of One Piece.

I end by admitting that I got caught up in the story and this only means that I will surely end up watching the anime to continue it, but I want to say that, if this is how well the adaptation of a story that has been told for many years, I do not want to imagine everything that has been developed in the manga and the anime, so it will be interesting to learn more. ¿Qué sucede en la serie?

Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede en el primer episodio para conocer un poco más de la historia. El episodio comienza dándonos una pequeña introducción del mundo al que estamos por conocer, un lugar lleno de misterio y peligros en los mares, donde viven personas con sus propias reglas, sus propias aventuras y estos son los piratas. Pero, así como existen los piratas, hay un ente llamado “La marina”, que trata de hacer valer la ley y encerrar a los piratas. La marina capturó al capitán Gold Roger, quien era conocido como “El rey de los piratas” y lo ejecutó frente a muchas personas, pero antes de morir, Gold Roger dijo que había escondido el mayor tesoro del mundo, el “One Piece” y esto en lugar de ser una lección para los piratas, realmente fue un incentivo para que más personas se convirtiesen en piratas para encontrar este gran tesoro.

Todo lo mencionado anteriormente sucedió hace 22 años, por lo que ahora nos trasladamos a la actualidad. Aquí conoceremos a nuestro protagonista Monkey D. Luffy, un joven de 17 años que desde muy pequeño siente que el mar le llama, por lo que desea ser un pirata, aunque no solo eso, su sueño es encontrar el tesoro “One Piece” para convertirse en el rey de los piratas, pero para esto primero necesita conseguir una tripulación y también un barco, porque ahora mismo se encuentra en una pequeña barca la cual se está hundiendo y para salvarse se introduce dentro de un barril y permanece flotando a la deriva.

El barril termina siendo tomado por un barco pirata y llevado a una especie de almacén. Luffy sale del barril y conoce a un joven llamado Coby quien es esclavo de la capitana del barco, pero aun así intenta ayudar a Luffy para que escape. Aquí se desenvuelve un gran conflicto cuando Luffy es descubierto, por lo que empieza una pelea y Luffy demuestra sus dotes y su habilidad especial. Muestra que su cuerpo está hecho de goma y la razón de esto es que se comió una especie de fruta llamada “Goma”, la cual le dio esa habilidad. Luego de que Luffy sin mucho esfuerzo acabase con la capitana, él junto a Coby toman una pequeña barca para escapar del barco y así dirigirse a algún otro lugar. Las intenciones de Luffy son encontrar una tripulación que le acompañe en la búsqueda del “One Piece”.

Mi opinión sobre la serie

A partir de este punto comentaré solo mi opinión con respecto a la serie y quiero aclarar también que me baso solo en la serie porque honestamente no he visto el anime. Comencemos con la historia, en lo personal al principio me pareció un poco aburrido, ciertamente cuando hablaron sobre el tesoro me llamó la atención descubrir qué es eso tan valioso que ahora todo el mundo desea obtener, pero a medida que fue avanzando si empecé a tomarle más cariño a la trama, supongo que como todo comienzo de historia los primeros pasos a veces no atrapan al instante, pero la historia en general realmente me gustó, tiene mucha aventura, comedia, acción es lo que más se aprecia y también tiene muchas sorpresas, por lo que para mí que soy nuevo en el mundo de One Piece realmente me dejó con ganas de conocer más.

La acción que se evidencia en la serie de principios a fin me pareció estupenda y por supuesto que debía ser una de las cosas que más resaltaran, estamos hablando de piratas y las historias de estos personajes suelen estar llena de aventuras y muchos conflictos, por lo que poder evidenciar estas situaciones en cada episodio hace que la historia sea bastante llevadera, además que combinan bastante bien la acción y la comedia, porque hay que recordar que nuestro protagonista es apenas un joven de 17 años, por lo que no siempre habrá seriedad en todas las situaciones, pero tampoco piensen que se trata de pura diversión, hay ciertos matices que terminan dejando mucho qué pensar.

Como bien mencionaba más arriba, en esta historia nuestro personaje tiene una gran habilidad, por lo que al no ser algo natural del mundo real, es obvio que entonces debe haber efectos especiales en la serie y desde que los vi quedé encantado, quiero decir, si realmente hubiese una persona con cuerpo de goma que pudiese estirarse, se vería tal cual como en la serie, me parece que la calidad de los efectos especiales está muy bien logrado y no solo en ese aspecto, sino también en todo el entorno marítimo, los barcos y ciertos escenarios, claramente no sabría decir qué tanto es efecto especial, pero sin dudas aquello que sí me pareció muy bueno, adoro cuando realmente se nota que le ponen cariño a los proyectos haciendo un trabajo impresionante de principio a fin.

Por último, quiero hablar de los personajes, porque créanme, esto es algo muy importante en la historia y la razón de esto es que, hay demasiados personajes a los cuales iremos conociendo, algunos más importantes que otros, pero ciertamente todos aportan algo a la historia. Tuve que buscar a los personajes animados para compararlo un poco con los actores y realmente fue grandioso la elección y el maquillaje utilizado para que estos luciesen tan bien como en el anime, además de una excelente interpretación de los personajes, no tengo ninguna queja con respecto a eso, todo lo contrario, quedé tan encantado que no puedo esperar por la siguiente temporada, porque sí, fue un completo éxito y ya fueron anunciadas la confirmación de otras dos temporadas más si no me equivoco, así que, aprovechen de subirse al barco de One Piece.

Finalizo reconociendo que quedé atrapado con la historia y esto solo significa que seguro terminaré viendo el anime para continuarla, pero quiero decir que, si así de bien quedó la adaptación de una historia que lleva muchos años siendo contada, no me quiero imaginar todo lo que se ha desarrollado en el manga y en el anime, por lo que estará interesante conocer más. Les recomiendo la serie totalmente a todos, para aquellos que han visto el anime y para aquellos que no. Es una buena manera de iniciar sin pensar en la cantidad de episodios que lleva el anime. A mí me sirvió para perderle el miedo y aquí me tienen bastante contento.
