Películas basadas en historias de guerra son en su mayoría producciones llenas de muchos clichés; nos presentan a personajes reales o ficticios de los cuales deben demostrar gran valentía a pesar de su físico, también demuestran su gran fuerza mental para poder solventar difíciles situaciones a las cuales deben enfrentar en cada lucha, todo eso puede estar unido a la existencia o no de otros personajes que pueden acompañar la travesía del "héroe" o el relator de esa específica historia en dónde pueden existir villanos directos o no aunque lo más importante es demostrar los estragos que crea el vivir una guerra; creo que todas esas características son ingredientes perfectos para crear un gran drama en dónde demuestra una extraña y horrible naturaleza del hombre y que lamentablemente hasta el día de hoy somos testigos de horribles imágenes.

Films based on war stories are mostly productions full of many clichés; they present us with real or fictitious characters who must show great courage despite their physique, they also show their great mental strength to overcome difficult situations which they must face in each fight, all this can be linked to the existence or not of other characters that may accompany the journey of the "hero" or the narrator of that specific story where there may be direct villains or not, although the most important thing is to show the havoc created by living a war; I believe that all these characteristics are perfect ingredients to create a great drama where it shows a strange and horrible nature of man and that unfortunately to this day we are witnesses of horrible images.
He visto varias películas de guerra, unas no muy buenas y otras que se convierten en inolvidables como por ejemplo por nombrar las que más me han gustado "Full Metal Jacket", "1917", "Fury", "Beasts of No Nation" y "Saving Private Ryan", todas historias en dónde veremos la crueldad y lo implacable que es una guerra, la lucha por sobrevivir y algo que siempre he criticado, la perdida de generaciones por las decisiones de otros; todo eso que he descrito brevemente es lo que caracteriza a esta producción alemana que fue estrenada y distribuida mundialmente por Netflix y que recibe el nombre de "All Quiet on the Western Front" (Im Westen nichts Neues); en esta historia veremos la guerra desde el punto de vista de "Paul Bäumer", un chico de tan solo 17 años de edad quien junto a tres de sus amigos decide alistarse al Ejército Imperial Alemán para ser parte de la Primera Guerra Mundial la cual se está combatiendo desde hace tres años; esto hace que cada vez más los alemanes y sus aliados deban reclutar a jóvenes para que puedan combatir en las duras trincheras para ganar cada vez más terreno a su favor; transformando de manera inmediata una vida llena de sueños y expectativas en una llena de imágenes de terror y traumas imborrables.
I have seen several war movies, some not very good and others that become unforgettable, such as "Full Metal Jacket", "1917", "Fury", "Beasts of No Nation" and "Saving Private Ryan", all stories where we will see the cruelty and relentlessness of war, the struggle to survive and something I have always criticized, the loss of generations by the decisions of others; all that I have briefly described is what characterizes this German production that was released and distributed worldwide by Netflix and is called "All Quiet on the Western Front " (Im Westen nichts Neues); in this story we will see the war from the point of view of "Paul Bäumer", a boy of only 17 years of age who along with three of his friends decides to enlist in the German Imperial Army to be part of the First World War which is being fought for three years; this makes that increasingly the Germans and their allies must recruit young people so they can fight in the hard trenches to gain more and more ground in their favor; immediately transforming a life full of dreams and expectations in one full of images of terror and indelible traumas.
Para ser sincero no soy fan de producciones alemanas y no es que la aborrezca, sino que no he tenido oportunidad de ver otras más y es que creo que en toda mi vida solo habré visto tres producciones de ese país (contando este film); ahora eso no evita que disfrute el trabajo realizado por el director Edward Berger quien he leído ha desarrollado su carrera en dirigir series y films televisivos; en esta oportunidad dirige una exigente historia la cual tiene la oportunidad de mostrar imágenes terroríficas y a la vez otras que son hermosas; la decisión de dar relevancia a diferentes momentos, sea donde demuestra acción, desesperación, alegría e injusticia y con esto puedo decir que desde el lente de la cámara dirigida por Berger veremos una montaña rusa de emociones; puedo decir que las escenas en las trincheras, las de campo abierto y otras que pueden ser simples relacionadas con la burocracia del gobierno y del ejército alemán, pero que tienen un gran significado son las que más me han gustado.
Si buscan la definición de este film encontrará que es considerada como una historia "Anti-Guerra" y sí que lo es; en esta historia no hay héroes, sino muchas víctimas que están a la merced de los peores villanos de la historia de la humanidad, gente con poder porque se les dio eso, mucho poder y es que hay un breve diálogo en el film en dónde explica el porqué sucede todo lo que veremos en el film. El guion fue escrito por Ian Stokell, Lesley Paterson y el mismo Berger; como dije anteriormente está historia está relatada desde el punto de vista de "Paul" y por eso vemos cómo desde la necesidad de la aventura y de descubrir al mundo, una generación es engañada desde el perfecto discurso motivador por quienes nunca en su vida tomarán un arma para defender las ideas de otros; justamente por eso este film es una crítica a una guerra que acabo con la vida de una gran cantidad de personas; en eso se hace un excelente trabajo en demostrar las atrocidades por malas decisiones tomadas desde el orgullo y locura de quienes están tan aferrados al poder y que sin importar nada se niegan a dar un paso al costado; por eso creo que el guion es perfecto porque desde el relato de la historia de muchos personajes demuestra lo malo de padecer una guerra.
To be honest I am not a fan of German productions and it is not that I hate it, but I have not had the opportunity to see others and I think that in my life I have only seen three productions of that country (counting this film); now that does not prevent me from enjoying the work done by the director Edward Berger who I have read has developed his career in directing television series and films; this time he directs a demanding story which has the opportunity to show terrifying images and at the same time others that are beautiful; the decision to give relevance to different moments, be it where he shows action, despair, joy and injustice and with this I can say that from the lens of the camera directed by Berger we will see a roller coaster of emotions; I can say that the scenes in the trenches, those in the open field and others that can be simple related to the bureaucracy of the government and the German army, but that have a great meaning are the ones that I liked the most.
If you look for the definition of this film you will find that it is considered an "Anti-War" story and yes it is; in this story there are no heroes, but many victims who are at the mercy of the worst villains in the history of mankind, people with power because they were given that, a lot of power and there is a brief dialogue in the film where it explains why everything that we will see in the film happens. The script was written by Ian Stokell, Lesley Paterson and Berger himself; as I said before this story is told from the point of view of "Paul" and that is why we see how from the need for adventure and to discover the world, a generation is deceived from the perfect motivational speech by those who will never in their lives take a gun to defend the ideas of others; That is precisely why this film is a critique of a war that ended the lives of a large number of people; in that it does an excellent job in demonstrating the atrocities of bad decisions taken from the pride and madness of those who are so attached to power and that no matter what they refuse to step aside; so I think the script is perfect because from the story of the history of many characters shows how bad it is to suffer a war.
Felix Kammerer como "Paul Bäumer" es perfecto; es el eje principal de la historia es quien une a un grupo de soldados que pasa de la felicidad por la aventura, al terror de la guerra y en momentos a experimentar lo que todo joven debería estar viviendo a la edad de 18 años para nuevamente despertar y sufrir de los horrores de la guerra y en eso el trabajo de Kammerer es el mejor porque demuestra que su personaje es incondicional, es el mejor amigo, es valiente y fiel sin ninguna duda es el personaje perfecto para este tipo de historias y es muy bien interpretado por este joven actor el cual resaltó sobre cualquier otro más porque como he dejado claro, es quien relata está muy buena historia.
Felix Kammerer as "Paul Bäumer" is perfect; he is the main axis of the story, he is the one who unites a group of soldiers who go from the happiness of adventure, to the terror of war and at times to experience what every young man should be living at the age of 18 to again wake up and suffer from the horrors of war and in that the work of Kammerer is the best because he shows that his character is unconditional, he is the best friend, he is brave and faithful without any doubt he is the perfect character for this kind of stories and he is very well played by this young actor who stood out over any other actor because as I have made clear, he is the one who tells this very good story.
Esperé un buen tiempo para ver All Quiet on the Western Front y lo disfruté este film en toda su plenitud, en mi opinión su dirección es excelente y junto con un guion el cual está basado en una novela alemana que recoge el relato de solados que padecieron traumas físicos y mentales sobre la Primera Guerra Mundial y que en este film se tiene la oportunidad de mostrar esos atroces hechos y los culpables de que esa situación se extendiera tanto; en mi opinión demuestra una lucha entre quienes aman la guerra porque creen que es un derecho generacional y están los jóvenes que quieren es experimentar lo bello de la vida y no luchar por ella en una trinchera por culpa de decisiones de otros; esto me pareció excelente porque no se reprime en demostrar la crudeza de la guerra, el dolor en luchar, en defender su vida y quitar otra, es algo lógico que sucede en una batalla, pero eso no deja de ser cruel y por eso en escribir esas escenas y darles vida es lo que me gustó de esta producción porque todos lo que estuvieron envueltos en este proyecto hicieron un gran trabajo; todo es correcto, nada forzado y eso se aprecia; esto me lleva a entender del porqué este film gustó mucho y se considera de lo mejor que se estrenó el pasado año y por eso que si todavía no han visto este film, la recomiendo en un 100%.
I waited a long time to see All Quiet on the Western Front and I enjoyed this film in all its fullness, in my opinion its direction is excellent and along with a script which is based on a German novel that collects the story of soldiers who suffered physical and mental trauma on the First World War and that in this film has the opportunity to show those atrocious facts and the culprits of that situation spread so much; In my opinion it shows a struggle between those who love war because they believe it is a generational right and there are the young people who want to experience the beauty of life and not fight for it in a trench because of the decisions of others; I thought this was excellent because it does not hold back in showing the rawness of war, the pain in fighting, in defending your life and taking another, it is something logical that happens in a battle, but that does not stop being cruel and that's why writing those scenes and giving them life is what I liked about this production because everyone who was involved in this project did a great job; everything is correct, nothing forced and that is appreciated; this leads me to understand why this film was very well liked and is considered one of the best that was released last year and that is why if you have not seen this film yet, I recommend it 100%.
