Una chica y un asesino tendrán un cambio de cuerpo mortal... Freaky
En el mundo de las películas de terror, el género de los Slashers es el que más me gusta, tiene un gran número de posibilidades de crear buenos villanos y héroes, en especial las llamadas "The Final Girl"; este género como muchas películas de terror se le puede anexar diferentes complementos cómo es la comedia, esto puede ser lo más importante del film o un simple complemento (mayor o menor) y su uso puede transformar un film en una parodia o sátira de este tipo de films, en esta oportunidad se toma el terror (slasher) y se le anexa la situación cómica cómo es el de "Cambio de Cuerpos" una muy usada en el cine, la clásica historia de un joven y un adulto cambian de cuerpos y en dónde deben vivir y descubrir cómo mejorar sus vidas, me sorprendió que al ver este film pensé cuántas películas he visto de este tipo y sí que fueron varias.

In the world of horror movies, the Slashers genre is the one I like the most, it has a large number of possibilities to create good villains and heroes, especially those called "The Final Girl"; this genre, like many horror films, can have different complements such as comedy, this can be the most important part of the film or a simple complement (major or minor) and its use can transform a film into a parody or satire of this type of films, in this opportunity the horror (slasher) is taken and the comic situation is annexed how is the "Body Swap" a very used in the cinema, the classic story of a teenager and an adult change bodies and where they must live and discover how to improve their lives, I was surprised that when I saw this film I thought how many movies I have seen of this type and there were several of them.
En "Freaky" tenemos dos historias, una de "the Blissfield Butcher" un asesino serial que por mucho tiempo se pensó que era una leyenda urbana y de Millie Kessler, una estudiante tranquila, sumisa, víctima del bullying que debe lidiar con la triste perdida de su padre, las vidas de ambos personajes cambiarán en el momento cuando Millie es atacada por el asesino sus cuerpos cambiarán, siendo Millie ahora El Butcher y el Butcher siendo Millie, esto hará que la pobre chica dentro del cuerpo de un psicópata deba buscar cualquier forma para regresar a su estado original mientras que el asesino aprovecha la ventaja para asesinar usando el cuerpo de una joven chica.
In "Freaky" we have two stories, one of "the Blissfield Butcher" a serial killer long thought to be an urban legend and Millie Kessler, a quiet, submissive, bullied student who must deal with the sad loss of her father, the lives of both characters will change at the moment when Millie is attacked by the killer their bodies will change, Millie being now The Butcher and the Butcher being Millie, this will make the poor girl inside the body of a psychopath must find any way to return to her original body while the killer takes the advantage to murder using the body of a young girl.
Este film es dirigido por Christopher Landon, él ya ha dirigido varios del films de terror siendo este el cuarto en el cual mezcla los géneros de terror y comedia, pero a la vez este sería el tercero que hace de un "Slasher Comedy", personalmente a mí me gustó mucho "Happy Death Day" dirigida por Landon, en esa historia une el terror y la fantasía o lo supernatural, todo muy parecido a este film, pero hay algo que me gustó mucho en esta nueva historia y es la fila de como grabó alguna de las escenas de terror, me pareció muy bien el uso de la cámara mientras sigue a la víctima llevándolo a sus últimos momentos, creo muy bien la tensión y el suspenso, me sucedió que al ver estas escenas siempre estaba diciendo "¡Ahí está!" Y cosas así, esperando que apareciera el asesino, para mí dirigió buenas escenas tanto de las muertes como las cómicas.
La historia como dije en el anterior párrafo es muy parecida a otra de las películas dirigidas y escritas por Landon quien en esta oportunidad co escribe el guion junto a Michael Kennedy entre ellos crearon una historia llena de muchas referencias de comedias sobre cambio de cuerpos y de slashers y justamente de ese género es pudieron tomar muchas cosas para hacer homenajes a grandes villanos del cine y es pareciera que en este film existiera el concurso que se llamaría "¿Reconoces al asesino de las películas de terror?" Esto es por qué hay referencias a Jason, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Ghostface, Ben Willis, es impresionante las muchas y buenas referencias que a existen en esta historia, algunas son hasta parodias de estos personajes creando escenas cómicas; eso en la guion está muy bien escrito, lo demás como ya dije anteriormente es muy parecido a lo visto en Happy Death Day, con esto me refiero a como se escribió la historia de Millie la cual debe lidiar con la pérdida de un familiar que le hace ser quien es para todo el mundo, cosa que también le sucede a la protagonista de las anteriores películas dirigidas y escrita por este director.
This film is directed by Christopher Landon, he has already directed several horror films being this the fourth in which he mixes the genres of horror and comedy, but at the same time this would be the third one that makes a "Slasher Comedy", personally I really liked "Happy Death Day" directed by Landon, in that story he unites horror and fantasy or supernatural, all very similar to this film, but there is something that I liked a lot in this new story and is the line of how he recorded some of the horror scenes, I found very well the use of the camera while following the victim taking him to his last moments, I create very well the tension and suspense, it happened to me that when I saw these scenes I was always saying "There he is! " And things like that, waiting for the killer to appear, for me he directed good scenes both of the deaths and the comic ones.
The story as I said in the previous paragraph is very similar to another of the films directed and written by Landon who in this opportunity co-wrote the script with Michael Kennedy between them they created a story full of many references to comedies about body swapping and slashers and just from that genre is they were able to take many things to make tributes to great villains of cinema and it is seemed that in this film there was the contest that would be called "Do you recognize the killer of horror movies?" This is why there are references to Jason, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Ghostface, Ben Willis, it is impressive the many and good references that exist in this story, some are even parodies of these characters creating comic scenes; that in the script is very well written, the rest as I said before is very similar to what was seen in Happy Death Day, with this I mean how the story of Millie was written, who must deal with the loss of a family member that makes her who she is for everyone, something that also happens to the protagonist of the previous films directed and written by this director.
Las actuaciones no son para ganar premios, son normales y en realidad no soy tan exigente en este tipo de films, lo que sí puedo decir es que dictaminan el ritmo del film, por ejemplo cuando ocurre el cambio de cuerpos, el personaje de Millie interpretado por Kathryn Newton, tienen un desarrollo lento y nada convincente interpretando al Butcher, cuando hace de la dulce y tranquila Millie su actuación es lo esperado en este tipo de personajes; ahora sobre Vince Vaughn sucede lo contrario a cuando Kathryn y su interpretación del asesino, su actuación es muy cómica aunque no muestra nada nuevo de sus muchas actuaciones en otros films cómicos dónde ha trabajado, pero eso no es malo, su actuación es uno de los puntos positivos del film, un hombre de más de 40 años interpretando a una chica de 17 años, algunas veces lo simple me hace reír y eso sucede en este film con la actuación de Vaughn; me fuera gustado que Kathryn fuera más convincente como asesino, su rostro inexpresivo no me pareció nada fuera de lo normal, me fuera gustado que siguiera con la misma imagen que tenía al comienzo del film para que las muertes fueran mejores, me fuera gustado que Vince fuera más convincente como el asesino a la hora de decir algún dialogó, muchas cosas que pudieran mejorar el film y es por eso que su actuación es normal y algo mejor.
The performances are not to win awards, they are normal and actually I am not so exigent in this type of films, what I can say is that they dictate the rhythm of the film, for example when the change of bodies occurs, the character of Millie played by Kathryn Newton, have a slow development and nothing convincing playing the Butcher, when she plays the sweet and quiet Millie her performance is what is expected in this type of characters; now about Vince Vaughn the opposite happens when Kathryn and his interpretation of the killer, his performance is very funny although he doesn't show anything new from his many performances in other comic films where he has worked, but that's not bad, his performance is one of the positive points of the film, a man over 40 years old playing a 17 years old girl, sometimes the simple makes me laugh and that happens in this film with Vaughn's performance; I would have liked Kathryn to be more convincing as the killer, her expressionless face didn't seem anything out of the ordinary to me, I would have liked her to keep the same image she had at the beginning of the film to make the deaths better, I would have liked Vince to be more convincing as the killer when it comes to say some dialogue, many things that could improve the film and that's why his performance is normal and a little better.
Freaky fue estrenada el año pasado, pero por la pandemia su estreno en Venezuela y parte de Europa se llevó a cabo el pasado fin de semana y es por eso que hago lá reseña de una película que no es perfecta, pero sí divertida y cumple con lo que son sus principales características, ser un slasher cómico y sí que lo es, tiene buenas muertes, momentos cómicos, es predecible, pero como no busca ser algo innovador y único, para mí está bien. Creo que este director tomó como excusa la realización de este film para seguir haciendo homenajes a películas de terror y a otras como por ejemplo ese gran número de films de los 80' y alguno hecho muchos años después sobre historia de cambio de cuerpos, esto me pareció algo muy bien hecho, respeta las leyes impuestas en esta historia y las pone muy bien en práctica y eso es lo que la hace eun buen film; si quieren ir al cine o alquilar "Freaky" (esta en Google Play), pueden hacerlo y así ver un divertido film.
Freaky was released last year, but because of the pandemic its premiere in Venezuela and part of Europe took place last weekend and that's why I'm reviewing a film that is not perfect, but it is fun and fulfills what are its main characteristics, to be a comic slasher and yes it is, it has good deaths, funny moments, it is predictable, but as it does not seek to be something innovative and unique, for me it's fine. I think this director took as an excuse the realization of this film to continue making tributes to horror films and others such as that large number of films of the 80' and some made many years later on history of body swapping, this seemed to me something very well done, respects the laws imposed in this story and puts them very well into practice and that's what makes it a good film; if you want to go to the movies or rent "Freaky" (this on Google Play), you can do it and see a fun film.
