"Hey! What's your power?..."
Since the end of July and throughout the month of August, Netflix has released a lot of material about movies and series based directly or not on comics, a story with a lot of influence on this world that is always present in entertainment and this year because of the pandemic has been somewhat diminished, but that still always finds the way for the many followers who exist and are open to new stories that may or may not be to their liking, premieres such as the second season of The Umbrela Academy or the European films Orígenes Secretos (Unknown Origins) and Freaks: You're One of Us, tried to fill that gap, but there was another space that is difficult to fill and that is "The Summer Films", those funny movies, with many action scenes, with meaningless stories, but with good characters, of that type were not abundant and I think Netflix, believed in having the solution to occupy that space that this year is impossible to fill.

Desde finales de julio y por todo el mes de agosto, Netflix ha estrenado mucho material sobre películas y series basadas directamente o no sobre comics, historia con mucha influencia sobre este mundo que siempre está presente en el entretenimiento y que este año por la pandemia se ha visto algo disminuido, pero que igual siempre encuentra el camino para los muchos seguidores que existen y que están abiertos a nuevas historias que podrán o no ser de su agrado, estrenos como la segunda temporada de The Umbrela Academy o de los filmes europeos Orígenes Secretos (Unknown Origins) y Freaks: You're One of Us, trataron de llenar ese vació, pero había otro espacio que es difícil de llenar y ese es el de "Las Películas Veraniegas", esas películas divertidas, con muchas escenas de acción y muchas con historias sin sentido, pero con buenos personajes, de ese tipo no abundaban y creo que Netflix, creyó en tener la solución para ocupar ese espacio que en este año es imposible de llenar.
"Project Power" is an entertaining film that despite being criticized for its weak script, I think the story of some characters along with the action scenes is the best of this film, in this story we see three characters who are united by a new drug called "POWER", after its use, This drug gives 5 minutes of different power to each person, then a young "dealer", a policeman and a father looking for his daughter, will have to face the distributors of this drug and their dangerous plan to transform the city of New Orleans into their great center of experiments. This film can be a great mix of different genres such as action, science fiction, "coming of ages" and "buddy movie", a fun, entertaining story with a message about the use and abuse of drugs.
"Project Power", es una entretenida película que a pesar de ser criticada por su flojo guion, creo que la historia de algunos personajes junto a las escenas de acción es lo mejor que tiene este film, aquí veremos la historia de tres personajes que está unida por una nueva droga llamada "POWER", después de su uso, esta droga le da 5 minutos de un poder diferente a cada persona, es entonces que una joven "dealer", un policía y un padre buscando a su hija, deberán enfrentar a los distribuidores de esta droga y su peligroso plan de transformar a la ciudad de New Orleans en su gran conejillo de indias. Esta película por momentos puede ser una gran mezcla de diferentes géneros como el de acción, ciencia-ficción, "coming of ages" y "buddy movie", una divertida, entretenida historia con un mensaje sobre el uso y abuso de las drogas.
The directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, did a good job creating good action scenes in both open and very closed spaces, I think they did a smart job of showing the powers of the characters who use drugs and creating good scenes, I liked how they can show the beauty of a city in spite of being hit by natural disasters and poverty, because for me this was important in this story, maybe there were things that could have been done better, but I think there is a shared guilt among them as directors and for the script that came from Mattson Tomlin, which has its flaws at various times in the film, but I think there should be a consensus among the three involved to improve some scenes and not leave gaps in the plot that I think could be written better and instead of affecting the whole film, affect important scenes, I believe that this, together with the little importance of making a villain with more weight, is what leaves the spectators with a bad taste in their mouths, but I must say that the story of the use of a lost and beaten city, the sale and use of drugs and the youth who must do what is necessary to obtain easy money to be able to subsist, that is very well written.
Los directores Henry Joost y Ariel Schulman, hicieron un buen trabajo creando buenas escenas de acción tanto en espacios abiertos como en unos muy cerrados, creo que hicieron un inteligente trabajo para mostrar los poderes de los personajes que usan la droga y crear buenas escenas, me gusto el cómo pueden mostrar la belleza de una ciudad a pesar de ser golpeada por desastres naturales y pobreza, ya que para mí esto era importante en esta historia, tal vez hubieron cosas que se pudo hacer mejor, pero creo que existe una culpa compartida entre ellos como directores y por el guion que vino por parte de Mattson Tomlin, el cual tiene sus fallas en varios momentos del film, pero creo que debió haber un consenso entre los tres involucrados para mejorar algunas escenas y no dejar huecos en la trama que creo se pudieron escribir de mejor forma y en vez de afectar todo el film, afectan escenas importantes, creo que eso junto a la poca importancia de hacer un villano con mayor peso, es lo deja con un mal sabor de boca a los espectadores, pero debo decir que la historia del uso de una ciudad perdida y golpeada, la venta y uso de drogas y la juventud que debe hacer lo necesario para obtener dinero fácil para poder subsistir, eso sí que está muy bien escrito.
I really liked several of the characters in this film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as "Frank Shave" a frustrated policeman who believes that the solution to stop this new wave of criminals is to level with them, Rodrigo Santoro as "Biggie", a man who can sell anything no matter what size he can reach, Jamie Foxx as "Art", a desperate father looking for his daughter from kidnappers who used him to create terror in a city and possibly in the world and my favorite character "Robin" played by Dominique Fishback, a young "dealer" who does what is necessary to get out of the city that seems to have nothing to offer but worry and problems, this character represents what surely many people who live in that city that has struggled to recover and move forward, always with the feeling that at some point they may be victims of nature and governments that do not care about their community. As I said, they are excellent characters, well interpreted since I cannot consider them perfect heroes, I think that should highlight them much more.
Me gustaron varios de los personajes de este film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt como "Frank Shave" un frustrado policía que cree que la solución para detener a esta nueva ola de criminales es poniéndose a su nivel, Rodrigo Santoro como "Biggie", un hombre que puede vender lo que sea sin importar el tamaño que puede alcanzar, Jamie Foxx como "Art", un padre desesperado buscando a su hija de raptores que lo usaron para crear terror en una ciudad y posiblemente en el mundo y mi personaje favorito "Robin" interpretado por Dominique Fishback, una joven "dealer" que hace lo necesario para salir de la ciudad que parece que lo único que tiene para ofrecer es preocupación y problemas, este personaje representa lo que seguro viven muchas personas que viven en esa ciudad que ha luchado para recuperarse y salir adelante, siempre con la sensación de que algún momento podrán ser víctimas de la naturaleza y de gobiernos que no les importa su comunidad. Como dije son excelentes personajes, bien interpretados ya que no puedo considerarlos héroes perfectos, creo que eso debería resaltarlos mucho más.
Although its premiere was a month ago, I can say that this film fulfills its purpose in entertaining, I think there is still much to explore in this story and I hope so, it is not perfect or original, but it talks about issues that are real as is the use and abuse of drugs, the frustration of living in a city that seems to be forgotten, it deals with issues such as belonging to a generation of which has no chance to be better, that the only way to get out and away from everything is to be a criminal, speaks of the fear of expressing whatever the way to do it, It talks about the betrayal of the system of how they cheat giving you a chance and end up using you and then rejecting you, it has things to analyze, but that does not make it a complete drama, because it has very good action scenes, it is fun and despite a short budget, it has a good use of CGI, I had a good time watching it, I do not think it is the best, but it satisfied the few expectations I had and if they come to make a sequel, I hope that this time they make a better villain, someone who is visible that we can despise, I think that would make this story better.
Aunque su estreno fue hace ya un mes, puedo decir que esta película cumple con su cometido en entretener, pienso que todavía hay mucho por explorar en esta historia y espero que así sea, no es perfecta ni original, pero habla de temas que son reales como es el uso y abuso de drogas, de la frustración de vivir en una ciudad que pareciera que es olvidada, trata temas como pertenecer a una generación de la cual no tiene oportunidad de ser mejor, que la única vía para salir y alejarte de todo es ser un criminal, habla del miedo a expresarse sea cual sea la vía para hacerlo, habla de la traición del sistema de como engañan dándote una oportunidad y terminan usándote para luego desecharte, tiene cosas para analizar, pero eso no la transforma en un completo drama, ya que tiene muy buenas escenas de acción, es divertida y a pesar de corto presupuesto, tiene un buen uso del CGI, yo la pase bien viéndola, no pienso que es la mejor, pero cumplió con las pocas expectativas que tenía y si llegan a realizar una secuela, espero que esta vez hagan un mejor villano, alguien que sea visible que podamos aborrecer, creo que eso haría mejor esta historia.
