En mi vida he visto varias películas de navidad, dramas familiares, comedias, romances, de acción y pocas de terror y es que el género navideño no escapa de que sus historias puedan usar otros temas para contar una historia de esta época del año; por supuesto que cada una siempre tiene como base una reunión familiar o de amigos listos para celebrar "Noche Buena" y siempre hay algo que desencadene cualquiera situación, con esto puedo decir que hay muy poca originalidad en este tipo de historias y solo depende del desarrollo de lo que acompañe al género navideño lo que pueda darle o no importancia a una historia.

In my life I have seen several Christmas movies, family dramas, comedies, romances, action and few horror and is that the Christmas genre does not escape that their stories can use other themes to tell a story of this time of year; of course each one is always based on a family gathering or friends ready to celebrate "Christmas Eve" and there is always something that triggers any situation, with this I can say that there is very little originality in this type of stories and only depends on the development of what accompanies the Christmas genre what may or may not give importance to a story.
"Silent Night" es una comedia oscura británica en donde veremos la historia de un grupo de viejos amigos que tiene una gran tradición de celebrar la noche de Navidad juntos; una reunión muy especial hecha con un gran sacrificio por sus anfitriones a pesar de que todos representa una parte de la sociedad pudiente de Inglaterra, pero lo que más la hace especial es que posiblemente está sea la última noche de la humanidad y eso hará que secretos y decisiones puedan afectar a la llamada "Noche de Paz"
"Silent Night" is a dark British comedy where we will see the story of a group of old friends who have a great tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve together; a very special meeting made with a great sacrifice by their hosts even though they all represent a part of the wealthy society of England, but what makes it special is that this is possibly the last night of humanity and that will make secrets and decisions that may affect the so-called "Silent Night".
La película es dirigida y escrita por Camille Griffin, está película significa su primera vez realizando un largometraje, ya que desde el 2003 en adelante hizo una serie de shorts films; para esta película el enfoque es muy personal, cada toma está muy enfocada en cada personaje, esto es porque la historia se desarrolla en una gran casa de campo, creo que este era la intensión de Griffin, la cual que a pesar de la diferencia entre cada uno de los personajes y de la lamentable situación, mostrar que entre ellos existen una gran amistad y la necesidad de estar unidos, estoy seguro de que la directora quería mostrar una falsa normalidad.
La historia en si es lo más importante de este film, aunque en parte no es original, pienso que al ser escrita en tiempo de pandemia puede servir como una sátira o crítica a todo está situación que se vive en el mundo, justamente por esto y el ser una comedia oscura es lo que relaciono a la falta de originalidad del guion, ya que principalmente la vi muy parecida a lo que fue la miniserie de HBO "Years and Years" (2019), lo cual es tomar situaciones muy reales y colocarlas en una historia ficticia, sé que hay muchas historias que lo hacen, pero justamente al ver esta película no dejaba de pensar que está historia fuera servido como una miniserie, creo que cada personaje se fuera desarrollado mejor igual que los temas sobre la paternidad, sobre hacer lo correcto y hasta creo lo más importante sobre el libre albedrío.
The film is directed and written by Camille Griffin, this film means his first time making a feature film, since 2003 onwards he made a series of shorts films;for this film the approach is very personal, each shot is very focused on each character, this is because the story takes place in a big country house, I think this was the intention of Griffin, which despite the difference between each of the characters and the unfortunate situation, show that between them there is a great friendship and the need to be united, I'm sure the director wanted to show a false normality.
The story itself is the most important thing about this film, although in part it is not original, I think that being written in time of pandemic can serve as a satire or criticism of all this situation that is living in the world, precisely because of this and being a dark comedy is what I relate to the lack of originality of the script, as mainly I saw it very similar to what was the HBO miniseries "Years and Years" (2019), which is taking very real situations and placing them in a fictional story, I know there are many stories that do that, but just watching this movie I kept thinking that this story would be served as a miniseries, I think each character would be better developed as well as the themes about parenthood, about doing the right thing and even I think the most important about free will.
Está película está llena de clichés y eso es gracias a los personajes, está la considerada pareja perfecta, la posiblemente imperfecta, el deseado o popular, el nerd, la cómica, la foránea, los insoportables y el personaje que parece ser el más centrado de toda la historia, ese es "Art" para mí es el mejor personaje del film, ya que representa a una gran parte de la población que quiere estar completamente informado y que a pesar de eso quisiera saber más, eso es en parte lo que me hizo conectar con el personaje, pero lo más relevante es que no está dispuesto a aparentar de que todo está normal sabiendo que posiblemente llegué muy pronto el fin de todo a esto sumo que todo es mucho para asimilar para un niño y toda esta etapa de locura el actor Roman Griffin Davis hace un gran trabajo, igual o hasta mejor del que hizo en JoJo Rabbit; otro personaje que me gustó fue el de "Nell" interpretada por Keira Knightley, madre de Arte, anfitriona, esposa, todo lo hizo a la perfección, sus gestos, su actitud, cumple con una buena actuación en los momentos que tiene en escena; los demás actores también hacen un buen trabajo con tan poco y eso para mí es un gran virtud de ellos en hacer funcionar en parte este film.
This film is full of clichés and that is thanks to the characters, there is the considered perfect couple, the possibly imperfect, the desired or popular, the nerd, the comic, the outsider, the unbearable and the character that seems to be the most focused of the whole story, that is "Art" for me is the best character in the film, as it represents a large part of the population that wants to be fully informed and despite that would like to know more, that's partly what made me connect with the character, but the most relevant thing is that he is not willing to pretend that everything is normal knowing that possibly the end of everything will come very soon, plus that everything is a lot to assimilate for a child and all this stage of madness the actor Roman Griffin Davis does a great job, equal or even better than he did in JoJo Rabbit; another character I liked was "Nell" played by Keira Knightley, Arte's mother, hostess, wife, she did everything to perfection, her gestures, her attitude, she delivers a good performance in the moments she has on stage; the other actors also do a good job with so little and that for me is a great virtue of them in making this film work in part.
Hace días leía que Silent Night era un film anti navideño y estoy en desacuerdo porque a pesar de que la historia es sobre un grupo de amigos con una vida muy privilegiada que tal vez tengan la necesidad de vivir por última vez la apariencia de ser mejores y de que todo está normal, creo que al final celebran la navidad, lo que posiblemente sea su última navidad, viven un momento de felicidad antes de por fin enfrentar el final, es por eso que no la considero ser anti navidad, ahora lo que si me gusta es la crítica, si lo relaciono a la situación que vivimos sobre el uso o no de la vacuna contra el Covid-19, creo que está bien hecha, para mí es lo mejor porque te hace pensar que está historia es a favor de los pro vacuna o es a favor de los anti vacuna, esto puede crear un debate y también puede causar rechazo al film, en lo personal pienso que es una crítica a la sociedad, a todos, a los que cuestionan o no todo lo que sucede, a la forma de comunicarte con tus hijos, amigos y familiares, al egoísmo de imponer una decisión, trata muchas cosas que se hacen más evidente en el acto final y fue la que más disfrute por qué para mí cambia completamente de género, pasa de ser una comedia oscura a ser un drama y con tintes de terror por todo lo que sucede, definitivamente esa es la mejor parte de esta historia. No es original, no es la mejor, pero tiene buenas actuaciones de algunos de sus protagonistas y también tiene un gran final, es por eso que si quieren ver una película navideña diferente les recomiendo verla.
Days ago I was reading that Silent Night was an anti-Christmas film and I disagree because even though the story is about a group of friends with a very privileged life that maybe have the need to live for the last time the appearance of being better and that everything is normal, I believe that at the end they celebrate Christmas, what is possibly their last Christmas, they live a moment of happiness before finally facing the end, that's why I don't consider it to be anti-Christmas, now what I do like is the criticism, if I relate it to the situation we live in about the use or not of the vaccine against Covid-19, I think it is well done, for me it is the best because it makes you think that this story is in favor of the pro vaccine or is in favor of the anti vaccine, this can create a debate and can also cause rejection to the film, personally I think it is a criticism to society, to everyone, to those who question or not everything that happens, to the way you communicate with your children, to your friends and family, to the selfishness, to the selfishness of the people who do not know what is going on, to the way you communicate with your children, to the way you communicate with your friends and family, to the selfishness of the people who do not know what is going on, It deals with many things that become more evident in the final act and it was the one I enjoyed the most because for me it completely changes the genre, it goes from being a dark comedy to a drama and with hints of terror for everything that happens, that is definitely the best part of this story. It's not original, it's not the best, but it has good performances from some of the main characters and it also has a great ending, that's why if you want to see a different Christmas movie I recommend you to watch it.
