El cine de terror europeo siempre lo he considerado especial; cada vez que tengo la oportunidad de ver alguna producción de ese lado del mundo dentro del género del terror me sorprendo por el gran trabajo que realiza todas las personas involucradas en esos proyectos; aunque considere que en Francia se ha hecho excelentes films, creo que en la actualidad en países nórdicos cómo por ejemplo Noruega se está haciendo un buen trabajo en cine y hasta en series de TV; pienso que en esos países tiene la cultura, arquitectura y naturaleza, para crear excelentes historia que pueden enfocarse en muchos subgéneros del terror y en esta oportunidad hago reseña de un film que creó un impacto o que llamo la atención desde su estreno en el Sundance Film Festival, un festival que lo tengo como referencia para ver películas fuera de los estrenos normales en el año y es por eso más la buena opinión del público en general es que decidí darle oportunidad a este film de terror psicológico.

I have always considered the European horror cinema special; every time I have the opportunity to see a production from that side of the world within the horror genre I am surprised by the great work done by all the people involved in these projects; although I consider that France has made excellent films, I think that currently in Nordic countries such as Norway is doing a good job in film and even in TV series; I think that these countries have the culture, architecture and nature, to create excellent stories that can focus on many subgenres of horror and this time I review a film that make an impact since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, a festival that I have as a reference to see films outside the normal releases in the year and that is why plus the good opinion of the general public is that I decided to give a chance to this psychological horror film.
En "Speak No Evil" veremos la historia de "Bjørn", su esposa "Louise" y su hija "Agnes", una pequeña familia Danesa que disfruta sus vacaciones de verano en Toscana, Italia; mientras disfrutan del sol, comida y paseos, forman una sorpresiva amistad con una familia neerlandesa conformada por "Patrick", "Karin" y su hijo "Abel" que tiene problemas de habla; es tan fuerte y agradable la compañía que Patrick se toma el atrevimiento de invitarlos a su hogar en una zona alejada de los Países Bajos y para romper la monotonía de sus vidas, tanto Bjørn cómo Louise deciden aceptar la invitación de pasar un fin de semana con sus nuevos amigos; unas pequeñas vacaciones que deben ser placenteras, conocer nuevas culturas, forjar nuevos lazos, divertirse, tener miedo, perder la esperanza, sufrir, llorar y gritar.
In "Speak No Evil" we will see the story of "Bjørn", his wife "Louise" and their daughter "Agnes", a small Danish family enjoying their summer vacation in Tuscany, Italy; while enjoying the sun, food and walks, they form a surprising friendship with a Dutch family consisting of "Patrick", "Karin" and their son "Abel" who has speech problems; The company is so strong and pleasant that Patrick has the audacity to invite them to his home in a remote area of the Netherlands and to break the monotony of their lives, both Bjørn and Louise decide to accept the invitation to spend a weekend with their new friends; a small vacation that should be pleasant, meet new cultures, forge new bonds, have fun, be afraid, lose hope, suffer, cry and scream.
Este film fue dirigido por Christian Tafdrup quien con su hermano, Mads Tafdrup escribieron el guion; el trabajo de Christian tras la cámara es impresionante, en muchas escenas realiza tomas que a pesar de que algunas son en lugares cerrados, resalta absolutamente todo y eso pienso que lo logra con un gran uso de la luz; lo colorido de muchas de las escenografías tanto de interiores como de exteriores impresiona porque son hermosas tomas; me gusta que no sea obligatorio crear escenas jumpscare sino algunas que son inquietantes, molestas porque justamente esto ayuda al tema principal del film y por eso pienso que es un excelente trabajo de este director.
La historia es igual de importante como por supuesto la dirección y la actuación de sus protagonistas; me gusta que se explore muchas cosas como es la imposición del poder, esto es importante en este film porque desde en primer momento veremos cuáles son los roles de cada uno de estos personajes, es claro quien es el agresor y quién es la víctima; ahora en este film hay un desarrollo de la víctima, no es necesario escudriñar sobre origen o motivos de todo lo que sucede, ya que en esta ocasión la historia no es relatada desde el punto de vista de la víctima sino del victimario y eso es genial. Otro punto positivo de la historia es que habrá un momento en dónde se puede afirmar de que esta historia es predecible y tengo la sensación de que los hermanos Tafdrup querían que quien vea la película tuviera noción de todo lo que sucede y lo que va a suceder y es que no hay necesidad de mantener secreto y aunque sí hay cosas que el público deba sacar sus propias conclusiones, sé que hay muchas más que son directas y siendo sincero está fue una gran decisión porque funciona.
This film was directed by Christian Tafdrup who with his brother, Mads Tafdrup wrote the script; the work of Christian behind the camera is impressive, in many scenes he takes shots that even though some are in closed places, he highlights absolutely everything and I think he achieves this with a great use of light; the colorfulness of many of the scenographies both in interiors and exteriors impresses because they are beautiful shots; I like that it is not mandatory to create jumpscare scenes but some that are disturbing, disturbing because this helps the main theme of the film and that's why I think it is an excellent work of this director.

The story is equally important as of course the direction and the performance of its protagonists; I like that many things are explored such as the imposition of power, this is important in this film because from the first moment we will see what are the roles of each of these characters, it is clear who is the aggressor and who is the victim; now in this film there is a development of the victim, it is not necessary to scrutinize the origin or motives of everything that happens, because this time the story is not told from the point of view of the victim but the victimizer and that's great. Another positive point of the story is that there will be a moment where you can say that this story is predictable and I have the feeling that the brothers Tafdrup wanted whoever sees the film to have a notion of everything that happens and what is going to happen and there is no need to keep secret and although there are things that the public must draw their own conclusions, I know that there are many more that are direct and to be honest this was a great decision because it works.
De las actuaciones de sus cuatro protagonistas, la que realizan tanto Morten Burian y Fedja van Huêt como "Bjørn" y "Patrick" es lo mejor; en ellos se enfoca gran parte del film porque el tema principal sobre el poder, victimización, ser fuerte y ser débil recae en ellos dos, también en el personaje de "Louise" interpretado por Sidsel Siem Koch, pero no hay duda de que en la representación masculina es quien tiene el mayor peso del film. De ambos personajes puedo decir que se reflejan entre sí, creo que uno quiere ser como el otro, aunque seguramente se podrá pensar que uno desea que el otro sea como él; en mi opinión, la necesidad de expresar la masculinidad en la competencia, en esconder sentimientos o exponer sentimientos es algo que en este film veremos con la actuación de estos dos actores y sus trabajos son muy buenos; me gustaría poder escribir más sobre cómo percibí el trabajo, la interpretación de estos dos actores, sus personajes, pero sería entrar en el terreno del spoiler.
Of the performances of its four main characters, the one given by both Morten Burian and Fedja van Huêt as "Bjørn" and "Patrick" is the best; on them is focused much of the film because the main theme about power, victimization, being strong and being weak falls on them both, also on the character of "Louise" played by Sidsel Siem Koch, but there is no doubt that in the male representation is who has the greatest weight of the film. Of both characters I can say that they mirror each other, I think that one wants to be like the other, although you can surely think that one wants the other to be like him; in my opinion, the need to express masculinity in competition, in hiding feelings or exposing feelings is something that in this film we will see with the performance of these two actors and their jobs are very good; I wish I could write more about how I perceived the work, the interpretation of these two actors, their characters, but it would be entering the spoiler territory.
Antes de ver este film, pude leer breves opiniones, ninguna extensa reseña, solo algo muy corto en redes sociales en las cuales se refieren al film como algo sumamente perturbador e incómodo, también compararla con otros films europeos de terror y eso creo en mí una expectativa que no me ayudó a disfrutar por completo el film, siendo sincero me molestó y no con la película en sí porque la considero muy buena, Speak No Evil es un film completo, buena dirección, guion y actuaciones, tiene excelentes personajes y sí, es incómoda en algunas de sus escenas, perturbadora en el relato de lo difícil para algunas parejas poder conectar con otras para forjar una buena amistad, estás son cosas que me parecen se pueden explorar más en películas de terror, pero lo que quiero decir es que hubo quien la consideró cómo la mejor película de terror del año y en mi opinión (por ahora) pienso que es exagerado; no me gusta crear expectativas sobre algunos films, me hubiera gustado no leer nada sobre esta película porque seguramente la hubiera disfrutado aún más; me gustó mucho su historia, sus personajes, el ambiente y el lugar donde ocurre toda esta historia, para mí es perfecto y me gustó como demuestra que el miedo puede hacer reaccionar a personas de manera diferente, eso es lo primordial del film, saber que tanto podemos convertirnos en víctimas o sobrevivientes.
Before watching this film, I could read brief opinions, no extensive review, only something very short in social networks in which they refer to the film as something extremely disturbing and uncomfortable, also compare it with other European horror films and that created in me an expectation that did not help me to fully enjoy the film, being honest it bothered me and not with the film itself because I consider it very good, Speak No Evil is a complete film, good direction, script and performances, it has excellent characters and yes, it is uncomfortable in some of its scenes, disturbing in the story of how difficult it is for some couples to connect with others to forge a good friendship, these are things that I think can be explored more in horror films, but what I mean is that some people considered it as the best horror film of the year and in my opinion (for now) I think it's exaggerated; I don't like to create expectations about some films, I would have liked not to read anything about this movie because surely I would have enjoyed it even more; I really liked its story, its characters, the environment and the place where all this story happens, for me it's perfect and I liked how it shows that fear can make people react differently, that's the main thing of the film, to know how much we can become victims or survivors.
