As for the script, I have to say it has both its pros and cons; personally, I was struck by how it portrays the theme of grief, which I believe is the story’s main driving force; it’s the factor that fuels the need to find closure after a significant event, and as the story unfolds and hope fades, other feelings begin to surface—feelings that, unfortunately, I don’t see being explored, since ** Hilditch** chooses to shift to a brief phase of the story where horror takes center stage, and although one of the stages of grief—denial—is well portrayed in that section, I don’t find the execution entirely satisfying. To be honest, I didn’t think much of the second act at all.

Daisy Ridley’s performance goes from strong to weak; at the beginning, her acting is focused on demonstrating that her reasons for being in a place where a complete disaster occurred are valid; through her performance, she can evoke empathy, a great deal of understanding, and even support, but the moment the film needs to explore horror and turn her into a “final girl,” there’s a disconnect in her performance or in what her character was meant to convey.
We Bury the Dead es un film regular; no puede decirse que es completamente malo porque, siendo sincero, hay características que me gustaron. Una es el elemento zombie, que es relevante en la historia, un factor que posiblemente sea considerado como simple, pero su presencia, sea por la aparición de algún muerto viviente en alguna de sus etapas o por alguna idea que tenga una persona sobre ellos, es algo que me gustó porque te da esa sensación que puede funcionar en otra historia; otro elemento importante son los motivos de su protagonista y sé que soy repetitivo, pero el tema del duelo es de suma relevancia, ya que sigue estando presente hasta el momento final del film. Lamento que se imponga un grupo de escenas en donde posiblemente se pudieron escribir y ejecutar de mejor manera; creo que es lo que genera un decaimiento en la película y en la interpretación de su actriz principal; creo que con un mejor desarrollo en el final se pudo hacer un mejor film.
We Bury the Dead is an average movie; you can’t say it’s completely bad because, to be honest, there are aspects I liked. One is the zombie element, which plays a significant role in the story—a factor that might be considered simplistic, but its presence, whether through the appearance of the undead at certain points or through a character’s ideas about them, is something I liked because it gives you the sense that it could work in another story; another important element is the protagonist’s motivations, and I know I’m repeating myself, but the theme of grief is of utmost importance, as it remains present right up until the film’s final moment. I regret that there’s a series of scenes that could have been written and executed better; I think that’s what causes the film and the lead actress’s performance to falter; I believe that with better development in the ending, a better film could have been made.
