It's another week and time for another disappointment in the world of From! This time we're reaching episode six of the third season and yet again another episode of nothing after two relatively strong episodes in a season that has felt absolutely void of direction! From is a show that both loves to tease while also loves the idea of sending you to sleep as it intentionally stretches its narrative out for some odd reason. I think many would say that From is a great show, but it's one that would probably serve better had it been reduce down to maybe half the episodes it currently has. Reality being much of the show's scenes don't really serve a purpose in the greater scheme of things, after all: what does the audience gain from characters running around each other telling them they can't talk right now? Or that they aren't in the mood to talk? End scene, start the next: oh, this character doesn't want to talk right now either! Time to check up on the pregnant woman and her drama. Hang on, she's not feeling great? Eating rotten food? I wonder what's happening the- oh the scene changed again and we're back to watching Jim complain about looking after this children which actually just look after themselves. Randall's awake! Oh, he gets two seconds of screen time. It's From season three!
With Victor's father now in the town and reunited with him after decades of not knowing what happened to Victor, things feel as if they're picking up. In last week's episode we saw a character finally snap after thinking there was a way out after Tabitha went through a tree, returned back to the normal world and somehow return to the town. This led to a lot of speculation in the characters to which one made the decision to just hop right on into the tree and see where it takes them. Without mentioned who that character was: the result was they ended up inside the walls of a swimming pool. Leading to them dying in a pretty horrific manner. As if their being teleported into something with dimension rather than to a specific destination with safe space to land in. It opened up more questions over the tree and the numbers that are found throughout the branches, kept inside bottles. People are starting to want to find answers to the events, but at the same time literally nothing is really happening in many cases with characters still maintaining this odd nature of talking to each other. Constant excuses to avoid talking, arguing over mundane subjects, convincing each other to pretty much stop looking beyond whatever is happening. Fatima is pregnant and losing her mind with her health taking a weird turn and few seem to care, one scene showcases a scan to see the baby to which that led to more questions.
Victor and his father of course take the lead this episode with a rarely seen attempt into the caves to find out more information on where some objects are. Victor needs a puppet to which it was previously revealed to have some sort of character or power to it that made it sentient or evil or something. We don't really know anything more. This wasn't given much attention in the episode, but it's the most eventful aspect of the episode as the two take the reigns to start pursuing something. To which Victor claims the puppet knows the story of this place and that's how they'd find out. Of course this is told to nobody else in the town because communication is nonexistent in From. I sort of expect the puppet to just reply with the fact that he can't talk right now when that episode finally comes. There wasn't much with Boyd this episode, he just sort of ran around doing something. It's nice when we see the events of other characters in the show rather than the big three, but we still sort of cling to specific ones. Which brings me to another character that needs a bit more time: Elgin. Who even is Elgin, you probably ask?
Elgin's still being haunted by some low quality render of some ghostly looking woman that keeps finding her way into his vision, claiming that she needs help. This is a plot line that I'm actually really interested in as it shows a ghostly figure that isn't threatening, and is actually asking someone to help them. Elgin's character has also had pretty much zero development since his arrival as well, so we know very little about him. One thing we do know is that he was the one that visioned the town while on the bus with others. He was the one that foresaw the upcoming events in some nightmarish sleep state, waking up only to realise it was all happening in real time. Pretty much nothing more has been done with him since aside from seeing this strange figure here and there. I'm curious as to where this is heading and whether this figure is in fact a victim and someone asking for help, rather than similar to the monsters that roam the night. Her appearance is certainly more different. In terms of visions, most of what we see are ones that feature the dead, but they're often done in a threatening nature rather than ones that come forward asking to be saved from something. Even the children that are seen with their deceased look and strange chanting have a more threatening nature to them. But hey, we still know nothing about Elgin and this development. It's all so slow.
This episode was pretty void still, it all could've been condensed down without the usual delaying of information and fleshing out episodes with the characters just stating they don't want to talk or can't. Too much of that. It's all so tiresome. But hey, eventually something will happen, right? That said, we're six episodes in. This season hasn't been particularly memorable so far.
