While it has, for the most part, aged like milk, 1980's Friday the 13th is a silly, yet rather entertaining slasher film, and one of the largest to be made in the history of film.
Its a film that doesn't tease, and it doesn't take very long for it to show you what it has to offer. There's action from the beginning, and back story towards the end, between its constant slashing of throats and splattering of blood. It's iconic camp setting inhabited by not-so-smart young adults that seem to make the wrong decisions at the most important of times.
It's best to remember that the franchise is one that sits host to creative killings, and a seemingly indestructible psychopath that seeks vengeance on all who get in his way. There will be moments in which you despise the film; moments in which characters run around like ants and ignoring their most basic of instincts, but it only adds to the fun aspect of the film, which is really what it's all about.
It's not there to scare, to raise goosebumps on your arms, but to provide a little gore and silliness. It is essentially the perfect Halloween film.
