I figured it would be fun to review a few movies I didn't actually like instead of constantly writing about ones I do.
Let's start off by saying Kong: Skull Island is a complete mess. It's a film that's visually appealing, and first-person videogames definitely inspired a lot of the kinda cool first-person action shots to the director, but looking into the narrative, it's awful.
Kong: Skull Island isn't supposed to be a good film, it's merely an introduction into an extended universe of various monsters. This is Warner Bros. attempting to create their own cinematic universe, and it's a complete waste of time.
As expected with a forced extended universe, you end up with characters that you are supposed to care for, although because there are so many, it's hard to actually learn about their stories and actually know why you should be caring, and not ultimately just rooting for their possible demise.
Kong: Skull Island tries to tell you that the island is one of mystery; a place filled with terrifying creatures that are unknown to us, until now. That narrative completely dies once we are introduced to a lost World War 2 pilot, who seems to be the 'funny guy' despite now living among a tribe and having wasted his entire life on an island, away from his loved ones and, well, the future he once had. It's completely silly, the humour is, once again, forced and trying to get you to loosen up a little, despite there supposedly being these giant threats roaming the island wanting to kill them in horrifying ways.
As expected, only a few small characters are killed off, and the obvious major Hollywood high-budget actors are here to stay for the marketing. That's all this film is: marketing. It's an advertisement for the next film, and the next one, and the next.
