It's not so unusual in this day and age that many of us have coulrophobia (fear of clowns), but as far as I'm concerned, that fear disappears when I find myself in front of a movie. A few days ago I saw a video in which they said there was a film capable of making the strongest vomit, and as a good lover of horror and gore, I began my search ignoring all the warnings. Damien Leone (I hope to see this name with 5 stars in the future), is a director and writer who has developed one of the horror characters that has managed to impress. While his career has been modest and somewhat timid, his presentations have been anything but. Pure gore without falling into the absurd, plots perhaps somewhat simple, although well developed. In each of his films he gives life to his character: Art The Clown, but it is in 2016 with Terrifier where he manages to develop it, and in what a way!
No es tan raro en esta época que muchos tengamos coulrofobia (miedo a los payasos), pero a lo que mí respecta, ese miedo desaparece cuando me encuentro de frente a una película. Hace unos días vi un video en que decían que había un film capaz de hacer vomitar al más fuerte, y como buena amante del terror y el gore, empecé mi búsqueda ignorando todas las advertencias. Damien Leone (espero ver este nombre con 5 estrellas en un futuro), es un director y escritor que ha desarrollado uno de los personajes de terror que ha logrado impresionar. Si bien si trayectoria ha sido modesta y algo tímida, sus presentaciones han sido todo lo contrario. Gore puro sin caer en lo absurdo, argumentos quizás algos simples, aunque bien desarrollados. En cada una de sus películas da vida a su personaje: Art The Clown, pero es en el 2016 con Terrifier donde logra desenvolverlo, ¡Y de qué manera!
Argument.
I already told you, it's very simple. It's about a clown who goes out to murder whoever he wants every Halloween, and if he feels like it, he eats them too. In the same style as Pennywise, Feddy, Jason, whoever you can think of, having him in front of you is already a death sentence.
Argumento.
Ya se los dije, es muy simple. Se trata de un payaso que sale a asesinar a quien se le antoje cada Halloween, y si le da la gana, se lo come también. Al mismo estilo que Pennywise, Feddy, Jason, quien se les ocurra, tenerlo de frente ya es sentencia de muerte.
Fragile ego.
I don't know the previous stories where Art is involved, but in these two presentations you can see immediately that he wants fame, he wants to be adored, any refusal will take you to his to-do list. In both films they show a fragment of an interview with the only survivor of his murders, in it they say that Art is dead, that there is no doubt, and the clown reacts the same way every time, turning his TV set to pieces. In the second part, they mention that whoever is disguised as him, Art will show him mercy, although they don't show if that mercy will be in the form of life or if it will be a quick and cold death.
Ego frágil.
Desconozco las anteriores historias donde Art está involucrado, pero en estas dos presentaciones se logra ver de inmediato que él quiere fama, quiere que lo adoren, cualquier negativa te llevará a su lista de pendientes. En ambos films muestran un fragmento de una entrevista a la única sobreviviente de sus asesinatos, en él dicen que Art ha muerto, que no hay duda, y el payaso reacciona siempre igual, volviendo añicos el su televisor. En la segunda parte, mencionan que quien se disfrace de él, Art le tendrá piedad, aunque no muestran si esa piedad será en forma de vida o si será una muerte rápida y fría.
Bring your gallons of blood for free!
Blood, gushing blood, blood everywhere, blood with viscera, blood and bones, in short... blood. Art always carries with him his "magic garbage bag" where he keeps all his arsenal; it's even funny because if he forgets something and his bag is far away, he will stop his massacre and go with all the patience in the world to look for what he needs. Everything, and when I say everything, it's EVERYTHING explicit, there are no effects in between; you can see perfectly when he rips someone's head off, when he pierces things through them, cuts them, EVERYTHING.
¡Lleve sus galones de sangre gratis!
Sangre, sangre a borbotones, sangre por todos lados, sangre con vísceras, sangre y huesos, en fin… sangre. Art lleva siempre consigo su “bolsa de basura mágica” en donde guarda todo su arsenal; hasta resulta gracioso porque si olvida algo y su bolsa está lejos, detendrá su masacre e irá con toda la paciencia del mundo a buscar lo que necesita. Todo, y cuando digo que es todo, ES TODO explicito, no hay efectos de por medio; se puede ver perfectamente cuando le arranca la cabeza a alguien, cuando les atraviesa cosas, los corta, TODO.
He doesn't talk but he makes a lot of noise.
The craziest thing (as if everything I've said wasn't), is that even though he's a clown, Art doesn't speak, he's mute, in fact he's performed by a mute. That makes it even more spectacular because he doesn't even need to actually speak, it adds that macabre and unpredictable touch. His gestures are impeccable and his gaze will always tell you what his lips cannot. It's also funny because if any of his victims faints from pain, he can't call them to wake up, so he'll try to make noises with his things, hit them and if they still don't wake up, there's always the option of having them do it while he's eating some part of their body.
No habla pero hace mucho ruido.
Lo más loco (como si todo lo que he dicho no lo fuera), es que aunque sea un payaso, Art no habla, es mudo, de hecho es interpretado por un mudo. Eso lo hace aún más espectacular porque ni siquiera le hace falta que hable realmente, le agrega ese toque macabro e impredecible. Sus gestos son impecables y su mirada siempre te dirá lo que con sus labios no puede. También resulta gracioso porque si alguna de sus víctimas se desmaya del dolor, él no puede llamarle para que se despierte, así que intentará hacerle ruidos con sus cosas, pegarle y si aún no despierta, siempre queda la opción de que lo hagan mientras él va comiéndose alguna parte de su cuerpo.
Certainly they are low budget films, but the quality of the work is impressive; the scenery, the sound, the materials they used are very good. Only three things I would put negative points: 1- Some of the performances are very weak, and it is understandable because many of them are beginner actors. 2- The soundtrack sounds like it was taken from a 70's or 80's porn movie. 3- In the second part the attempt to make the plot stronger failed, it was like a meaningless filler.
But apart from that, it would be a perfect gore movie.
Ciertamente son films de bajo presupuesto, pero la calidad del trabajo es impresionante; la escenografía, el sonido, los materiales que utilizaron son muy buenos. Solo a tres cosas le pondría puntos negativos: 1- Algunas actuaciones son muy flojas, y es de entender porque muchos son actores principiantes. 2- La banda sonora pareciera que fue sacada de alguna película porno de los 70 u 80. 3- En la segunda parte falló el intento de hacer el argumento más fuerte, quedo como un relleno sin sentido.
Pero apartando eso, sería una perfecta película gore.
Sickening scenes? No, we've already imagined everything that happens in some other movie, here what they do is to show it straight to you without cuts. Crude and strong? Obviously, honey, that's what a gore film is all about. Not suitable for theaters or sensitive audiences? Yes and no, the reason is simple: we've been very childish with these themes, several decades ago we could see in the cinema how someone was mutilated and people were not outraged as they are now, those who didn't like it said so without throwing venom and left the rest in peace; obviously, these films are still for an audience that likes to see this kind of material. I don't deny that I laughed many times while watching it, Art is a bastard and I even found him a nice guy, so I'll look for Damien's other movies to see how the story started with the little clown. Ah!, I almost forgot, apparently Terrifier will have a third part in which, according to them, they will tell Art's origins, I hope that's how it will be. So, do I recommend it or not? If you like to see blood everywhere, then yes, and if you don't like it but you were curious to see it, do it taking into account all of the above.
¿Escenas vomitivas? No, todo lo que pasan ya nos lo hemos imaginado en alguna otra película, aquí lo que hacen es mostrártelo de frente sin cortes. ¿Crudo y fuerte? Obvio, cariño, de eso se trata un film gore. ¿No apta para cines o público sensible? Si y no, la razón es simple: nos han aniñado mucho con estos temas, varias décadas atrás podíamos ver en el cine como mutilaban a alguien y la gente no se indignaba como ahora, al que no le gustaba lo decía sin lanzar veneno y dejaba al resto en paz; obvio, estas películas no dejan de ser para un público que le guste ver materiales de este tipo. No niego que me reí muchas veces mientras la veía, Art es un desgraciado y hasta me pareció un agradable sujeto, así que buscaré las demás películas de Damien a ver qué tal empezó la historia con el payasito. ¡Ah! Casi me olvidaba, al parecer Terrifiertendrá una tercera parte en la que, según, contaran los orígenes de Art, ojalá sea así. Entonces, ¿la recomiendo o no? Si te gusta ver sangre por todos lados, entonces sí, y si no les gusta pero les dio curiosidad verla, háganlo teniendo en cuento todo lo anterior.
