I'm Jackass Forever Generation (2022)

Hello, cinephiles, I hope you are enjoying these carnivals. It's been a while since I've been around these parts and the truth is that I haven't had much activity as a spectator of this art, but a few days ago we saw the pearl of the most beloved deranged in the world (or at least for us): Jackass Forever (2022). Ever since Bam Margena and his band and the wonderful Johnny Knoxville got together to create this American-style comedy, back in the early 2000's and aired on MTV every Sunday (when it was good), I was already a fan of the crazy shows. Although, of course, being a little girl of only 7-8 years old, the more their crazy and risky antics progressed, my parents didn't let me watch them, but when I was a little "older", I continued watching them, I simply adored them. Who doesn't like to see the suffering of others with a little humor?

Hola, cinéfilos, espero que estén muy bien disfrutando de estos carnavales. Ya hacía un tiempo que no estaba por estos lados y la verdad es que tampoco he tenido mucha actividad como espectadora de este arte, pero hace unos días nos vimos la perlita de los desquiciados más queridos en el mundo (o al menos para nosotros): Jackass Forever (2022). Desde que se juntaron Bam Margena con su grupo y el maravilloso Johnny Knoxville para crear esta comedia al mejor estilo americano, por allá a principio del 2000 y transmitido por MTV cada domingo (cuando era bueno), ya era seguidora de los locos shows. Aunque, claro, al ser una pequeña de apenas 7-8 años de edad, mientras más avanzaban sus locuras tan riesgosas, mis padres no dejaban que los viera, pero ya cuando era un poco más “mayor”, los continuaba viendo, simplemente los adoraba. ¿Quién no le gusta ver el sufrimiento ajeno con un poco de humor?

It wasn't all laughter, though. Throughout the history of this group, we can see how fame and money affected several of the members. For those of us who followed closely what was going on in the day to day life (or what could be achieved) of the guys, it wasn't a day full of flowers, quite the contrary. Steve-O, one of my favorites, began his participation in the cast thanks to his small background as a circus clown, he did some insane stunts and, although MTV production didn't like the level of risk he showed in his tapes, Johnny and the team decided to give him a chance. Little by little, as the show's fame grew, so did the numbers in their bank accounts, it was a madness that not everyone knew how to handle. Steve became an alcoholic and addicted to certain substances, which although some were not illegal, were very dangerous; we could see him in the live or pre-recorded transmissions in states of alteration that were pitiful and he was already becoming a danger to himself. Similar happened to Bam, but let's take it one step at a time. The team, led by Johnny, decided to do a forced intervention and well, obviously, Steve-O recovered, although he had to make big changes in his life.

Aunque no todo era risas. A lo largo de la historia de este grupo, podemos conseguirnos cómo les fue afectando la fama y el dinero a varios de los integrantes. Quienes seguíamos de cerca lo que sucedía en el día a día (o lo que se podía conseguir) de los chicos, no era un día lleno de flores, todo lo contrario. Steve-O, uno de mis favoritos, comenzó su participación en el elenco gracias a su pequeña trayectoria como payaso de circo, hacía unas acrobacias demenciales y, aunque a la producción de MTV no le agradaba el nivel de riesgo que él mostraba en sus cintas, Johnny y el equipo decidieron darle una oportunidad. Poco a poco, mientras subía la fama del programa, también subían los números en sus cuentas bancarias, era una locura de la cual no todos supieron manejar. Steve se volvió alcohólico y adicto a ciertas sustancias, que si bien algunas no eran ilegales, era muy peligrosas; podíamos verlo en las transmisiones en vivo o ya pregrabados en estados de alteración que daban pena y ya se estaba volviendo un peligro para él mismo. Similar le ocurrió a Bam, pero vamos por parte. El equipo, encabezo por Johnny, decidieron hacerle una intervención forzada y bueno, obviamente, Steve-O se recuperó, aunque tuvo que hacer grandes cambios en su vida.

In Bam's case, he was already an alcoholic since he was a teenager, he developed eating and personality disorders, becoming a danger to himself and also to those around him. It was a shame because he was a great skateboarder (I was also following his career back then), plus I found him sexy, I must admit. For that and other reasons, Bam wasn't invited for this new Jackass reunion, which triggered an almost childish retaliation on his part; going so far as to accuse the producers of stealing his ideas for the new exploits, the script and even the dialogue for each member. Part of him falling into that state was perhaps due to the death of Ryan Dunn, as Bam himself said he was his best friend and would never get over his loss.

En el caso de Bam, ya él era alcohólico desde adolescente, desarrollo trastornos de alimentación y de la personalidad, convirtiéndose en un peligro para él mismo y también para quienes estuvieran a su alrededor. Era una lástima porque era un gran skater (también seguía su trayectoria en ese entonces), además de que me parecía sexy, debo admitirlo. Por esa y otras razones, Bam no fue invitado para este nuevo encuentro de Jackass, lo cual desencadenó una represalia casi infantil de su parte; llegando a acusar a los productores de robar sus ideas para las nuevas hazañas, el guion y hasta los diálogos de cada miembro. Parte de que él cayera en ese estado, quizás se deba a la muerte de Ryan Dunn, ya que el mismo Bam decía que era su mejor amigo y que nunca superaría su perdida.

It is true that not all the cast has a rosy life, but they have managed to stay together as far as they can and have overcome it. Although, in this new shoot, it doesn't seem like time has passed them by at all. Their level of craziness goes to the extreme. I didn't stop laughing throughout the film, nor did I stop feeling that nostalgia in my chest as I saw how each of the members appeared little by little, although the moment of the credits hit me the hardest. I would even dare to say that they are part of a generation, that they have made millions of people laugh and have also amazed them (for better or worse). Nowadays, a current or repeated broadcast of their shows on any channel (I don't say MTV because we already know what it has become), would not last a single episode without being cancelled by the crystal generation (I call them the sand-in-the-sand generation); thank goodness there are platforms where there is still a little "freedom" and you can appreciate this jewel on a quiet weekend, pizza and a drink that cheers up the spirit just like this crazy clan cheers us up. So, as I always say: "If you haven't seen it, see it, and if you have, see it again, you can't miss anything", besides, who doesn't miss seeing Erhen suffer the worst punishments? Es cierto que no todo el elenco tiene una vida color rosa, pero si han sabido mantenerse unidos hasta donde se puede y lo han superado. Aunque, en este nuevo rodaje, no parece que haya pasado el tiempo en ellos para nada. Su nivel de locura llega al extremo. No dejé de reír en todo el film, como tampoco dejé de sentir esa nostalgia en mi pecho al ver cómo iban apareciendo de a poco cada uno de los integrantes, aunque me pegó más fue el momento de los créditos. Me atrevería a decir, incluso, que forman parte de una generación, que han hecho reír a millones de personas y también los han asombrado (para bien o mal). Hoy en día, una trasmisión actual o repetida de sus programas en algún canal (no digo MTV porque ya sabemos en qué se convirtió), no duraría ni un capítulo sin ser cancelado por la generación de cristal (yo les llamo generación de arena en el orto); menos mal existen plataformas en las que aún hay un poco de “libertad” y se puede apreciar esta joya un fin de semana tipo tranquilo, pizza y alguna bebida que alegre el espíritu así como este clan de locos nos alegran a nosotros. Así que, como siempre les digo: “Si no la han visto, véanla, y si ya la vieron, vuélvanla a ver, no tiene perdida de nada”, además ¿Quién no extraña ver a Erhen sufrir los peores castigos?
