Hi, movie lovers, I hope you're well. I have several nights where I don't fall asleep so early anymore and yesterday I thought of looking for something to watch and between searching and searching, I found the trailer of this French movie: Benedetta. A story (I still don't know if it's real or not) based on a book by Judith Brown and adapted by director Paul Verhoeven. Knowing that it was by this director, I was more intrigued because I have seen several of his works of which I have not been disappointed, so without thinking much I started looking for this title that, by the way, I had a hard time getting it, the pages had given it down because they reviewed many complaints and that made me more curious, I love chaos. After a while of searching, I finally got it. Before I continue, I will do something that I have been doing recently, I will post the score and acceptance data, this serves as a tool to know how "part of the herd" I am; according to the information it has a score of 6.7/10 and 68% of the users liked this movie, this according to the relevant Sourse. At this point I would like to add that I am NOT a believer, I have my doubts and I object based on the facts, so all this is a purely personal opinion that seeks to analyze and deepen rather than deny something just for the sake of it.

Tengo varias noches en las que ya no me duermo tan temprano y ayer pensé en buscar algo que ver y entre buscar y buscar, encontré el tráiler de esta película francesa: Benedetta. Una historia (aun no sé si es real o no) basada en un libro de Judith Brown y adaptada por el director Paul Verhoeven. Al saber que era de este director, me intrigó más porque he visto varios de sus trabajos de los cuales no me han decepcionado, así que sin pensarlo mucho me puse a buscar este título que, por cierto, me costó mucho conseguirlo, las paginas la habían dado de baja porque reseñaban muchas quejas y eso me dio más curiosidad, amo el caos. Al cabo de un rato de buscar, al fin la conseguí. Antes de continuar, haré algo que vengo haciendo recién, colocar los datos de puntuación y aceptación, esto me sirve de herramienta para saber qué “tan parte del rebaño” soy; según la información tiene un puntaje aproximado de 6,7/10 y a un 68% de los usuarios le gustó esta película, esto según la pertinente Fuentes. En este punto quisiera agregar que NO soy creyente, tengo mis dudas y objeto basándome en los hechos, así que todo esto es una opinión netamente personal que busca analizar y profundizar más que negar algo por simple gusto.

From the beginning, I found her behavior or personality strange for someone so devout although I chalked it up to the innocence and ignorance of the time. These attitudes were noticed from the beginning by the mother superior, and from then on new... changes? In Sister Benedetta's personality. Divine signs, evil attitudes, visions, misconduct, etc., are surfacing in her more and more strongly. Under this scoop, it's all interesting, isn't it, well, actually it is. Seeing two (or three, depending on how you see it) different behaviors in the same person, what does it result in, speaking from the psychological point of view, of course, we would be facing a woman with dissociative personality disorder, in the first instance, but after seeing it, things are changing and becoming stranger (her sexual orientation for later).
Ahora bien, pongámonos un poco en contexto y trataré de no entrar en mucho detalle del film (mentira, mucho SPOILER). Nos encontramos con una niña que hace milagros y es prometida a pasar el resto de su vida en un convento en Italia. Desde el inicio, me pareció que tenía una conducta o una personalidad extraña para alguien tan devota aunque se lo atribuí a la inocencia e ignorancia de la época. Dichas actitudes son notadas desde el inicio por la madre superiora, de ahí en adelante comienzan a surgir nuevos… ¿cambios? En la personalidad de Sor Benedetta. Señales divinas, actitudes malignas, visiones, conductas indebidas, etc., van aflorando en ella cada vez con mayor fuerza. Bajo esta primicia, todo interesante, ¿no?, bueno, en realidad es que si lo es. Ver dos (o tres, dependiendo cómo lo veas) conductas distintas en una misma persona ¿qué da como resultado?, hablando desde el punto de vista psicológico, claro, estaríamos frente a una mujer con trastorno disociativo de la personalidad, en una primera instancia pero luego de ir viendo, ya la cosa va cambiando y tornándose más extraña (su orientación sexual para más tarde).
I wonder why Benedetta had to resort to sacrilege and blasphemy to demonstrate her faith and love for Jesus? Being mortal sins, she didn't mind deceiving, self-harming and harming others in order to prove her connection to "her husband", Jesus. It was all a means to an end, but an end full of lies for what? I am very sorry, but this, for me, is fanaticism but of the gross kind, Sister Benedetta was a psychotic. If causally (not to be confused with coincidence.) the "miracles" were fulfilled it was because of that: causality, and I am only referring to the ones they showed in the movie, I completely ignore what comes out in the book or the story of this nun.
Me salta la pregunta ¿por qué Benedetta tuvo que recurrir al sacrilegio y la blasfemia para demostrar su fe y amor por Jesús? Siendo pecados mortales, no le importó engañar, autolesionarse y dañar a los demás con tal de dar por verdad su conexión con “su esposo”, Jesús. Todo fue un medio para lograr un fin, pero ¿un fin lleno de mentiras para qué? Lo siento mucho, pero esto, para mí, es fanatismo pero del bruto, Sor Benedetta era una psicótica. Si causalmente (no confundir con casualmente) se cumplían los “milagros” era por eso: causalidad, y solo me refiero a los que mostraron en la película, ignoro por completo lo que sale en el libro o la historia de esta monja.
An answer to the first question (why Benedetta had to resort to sacrilege and blasphemy?): maybe to try to calm her guilt before the lustful thoughts she was presenting, it was "against all natural law" and church law for two women to attend each other as husband and wife, it was "impossible", but maybe what burned them the most was the fact that they did it with a religious object. Here another doubt arises: if Benedetta did not deny her love for Bartolomea, why did she keep lying to her about her miracles, then Bartolomea was right: "you only love yourself". Another sin for the bag, seriously how many sins did this woman commit and yet they still sanctified her, so it doesn't matter how much you sin as long as you love and praise the Lord? Ah, now it all makes sense! (Vatican=pederastia).
Una respuesta a la primera pregunta (¿por qué Benedetta tuvo que recurrir al sacrilegio y la blasfemia?): tal vez para tratar de calmar su culpa ante los pensamientos lujuriosos que estaba presentando, iba “contra toda ley natural” y de la iglesia que dos mujeres se atendieran como marido y mujer, era “imposible”, pero tal vez lo que más les ardió fue el hecho que lo hicieran con un objeto religioso. Aquí surge otra duda: si Benedetta no negaba su amor por Bartolomea, ¿por qué seguía mintiéndole a ella sobre sus milagros?, entonces Bartolomea tenía razón: “solo te amas a ti misma”. Otro pecado para el bolso, en serio ¿Cuántos pecados cometió esta mujer y aun así la santificaban?, ¿entonces no importa cuánto peques mientas ames y alabes al Señor? ¡Ah, ahora todo tiene sentido! (Vaticano=pederastia).
Beyond all the facts, which are indeed very interesting, I liked the story, but I don't like the movie. It's strange, I know, but in this case you have to separate the story and the message from the rest (I think I'm referring here to the plot, I'm not an expert and if someone guides me, thank you very much); I think some details were very exaggerated, I mean, not for evil or anything like that but I laughed a lot in the Jesus scenes (my husband and I couldn't resist relating it to Ezzio, from Assassin's Creed.), scenes with details to spare and those effects... ufff, no words, I think it was too much to show them like that. BUT, and only if so (I hope so), if it was as Benedetta imagined it, then it could be forgiven. All in all, I would recommend the movie because its story is good, but I wouldn't watch it again, so no "as I always tell you..." today, sorry, I'll see you in a next post!
Más allá de todos los hechos, que de verdad son muy interesantes, me gustó la historia, pero no me pasa lo mismo con la película. Es extraño, lo sé, pero en este caso hay que separar la historia y el mensaje del resto (creo que aquí me refiero al argumento, no soy experta y si alguien me guía, muchísimas gracias); creo que algunos detalles fueron muy exagerados, o sea, no es por maldad o algo por el estilo pero me reí muchísimo en las escenas de Jesús (mi esposo y yo no pudimos evitar relacionarlo con Ezzio, de Assassin's Creed), escenas con detalles de sobra y esos efectos… ufff, sin palabras, creo que estuvieron de más mostrarlos así. PERO, y solo de ser así (espero que así sea), si era así tal cual cómo Benedetta lo imaginaba, entonces, se le podría perdonar. Con todo y eso, sí recomendaría la película porque su historia es buena, pero no la vería de nuevo, así que hoy no va “como siempre les digo…”, sorry. ¡Será hasta un próximo post!
