Hello, movie lovers. We will continue with the previous dynamic (react-write) as I found it interesting, although I must confess that somewhat exhausting because I feel I must separate my mind in three to be able to see-process-write (remembering that the images shown are screenshots as I go along watching). Maybe later I will do it with a camera, which I think would simplify the work a bit more (a bit positivist me). So, well, I'll continue with another work by Gaspar Noé, they kind of like me to suffer here but they assured to be very promising, and the truth is that I'm getting some affection for this director, I may not like him yet (just based on Irreversible) but we'll see how it goes with this short: Carne (1991). Apparently a preview of a character's life from an upcoming production. When I looked it up, I was surprised that it has great acceptance: 83% liked it and a score between 6.6/10 and 7.2/10 according to the following sources:
The other thing that surprised me was where to find it to watch it, I thought it would be on the same page where I found the previous one but no, I got it on YouTube, but as I always have the habit of reading the comments first so I don't get any disappointment like "it's without audio", "it's not complete", "they put a childish music in the background and you can't hear anything", etc.., and well, thank goodness I did it because I found that the subtitles were not synchronized and in other parts it was badly translated... not everything could be so perfect; so I kept looking for a page to watch it.
Ok (already the first one), I got it, put it on and forgot to turn down the volume and, well... I got the first jump in the seat. A quiet start... Ouch! A warning, how cool... ok, fuck... ok... is it normal that I had a nervous laugh about the horse? I go on. A lousy husband; a "good father" (one scene struck me as a double entendre, I assume that's the intent). Contrary to Irreversible, this one so far, has me hooked, maybe because of that father-daughter morbidness they sometimes seek to put in this style of tapes or maybe I'm anticipating, I don't know.
The dinner scene and it cuts suddenly and shows a dialogue of a wrestler, I got the impression that that was just what Cynthia wanted to do to her father. Strangely what the guy says in the nights show, has some logic to it and like they want to be a guide for the father to get him out of that monotony he lives in and has dragged his daughter into, and this is so familiar to me. Right in the scene where the guy starts to see his daughter's legs, my heart stopped, it's the guy that comes out at the beginning of Irreversible! Genius, he's a fucking genius, what a thread so... I have no words. Too bad I watched that one first instead of this one, maybe I would have liked it more and... I better keep going. I loved how the father reacted when he thought he had done something to his daughter, it's the spitting image of the justice that many times some of us would like to take before these actions, pity he did it to a complete innocent and oblivious to the whole situation and, by the way, no bigger things happened, it was all a misunderstanding! And now he has to pay for it, epic. That "I'd like to kiss you, but it would hurt" is brutal, it shows a father's love but at the same time the -sick?- dark side it hides.
As he serves his sentence, it's not quite clear to me why they won't let him see Cynthia, but this woman, the one in the coffee shop struck me as opportunistic and selfish for also denying him even to write to her. And cunt, that goodbye to the father with the kiss...I got the other part of why it would "hurt". And by the way, this girl has a serious problem, from the beginning they showed it but until now they don't explain what's wrong with her. Going back to "Fat Ass", that "reflection" the guy makes is right in a certain part, many women have had that need to get pregnant just to have someone to take care of them in old age. "You're a woman and you shouldn't say that in this day and age", yes but it's a reality I've seen and heard from several females looking for that "life insurance".
Well, it's over now, maybe in a very open way but I won't get ahead of myself until I see the next show. I thought it was spectacular the way the director touched this depraved but common theme in society and in families, he was very direct but very subtle in a way because he does not show (yet) what this father really wants to do and that in spite of everything, he is still a good father. It is even paradoxical this position, you don't know whether to judge him or to understand and justify him. Anyway, I'm still worried about what is happening to Cynthia, I hope that in the next show something will come out about it; I really liked this short film, even more than Love. This director has several little tricks up his sleeve, he is really surprising me and you have to get rid of several prejudices to appreciate them, so as I always say: "If you haven't seen it, see it, and if you have seen it, see it again", and I thank you for having recommended it to me as well.
