Rita Tushingham actriz inglesa, especialmente recordada por sus papeles en las películas: Un sabor a miel (1961), The Knack ...and How to Get It (1965), y Doctor Zhivago (1965).

Margaret Nolan actriz, modelo artista visual inglesa.

English Version
Last Night in Soho (El Misterio de Soho in Latin America ), is a psychological thriller that seeks to keep one of its main protagonists on the verge of madness, which makes the viewer live what is happening to the protagonist and forces you to keep watching the film until the end.

Contemporary fashion student Eloise Turner (Thomasin McKenzie), who goes by the name Ellie, leaves small-town life behind for London.
Lost and lonely in London, a victim of a cab driver's flirtations and abuse by her roommate, she moves into a dream world in a portal to another world, where she has visions of a young woman named Sandy Collins (Anya-Taylor Joy), who aspired to be a singer in the 1960s.
As if in a dream (later nightmare), Eloise takes on Sandy's overwhelming personality. In the first time travel, the young dressmaker stumbles upon a gigantic poster for Thunderball (1965), giving a hint as to what year in the past part of the film is set in. It is a neon-lit London where two different points in time are perceived.
Edgar Wright, (the Director), intends for the viewer to feel what his female protagonists feel at all times, in conjunction with his Oscar nominated co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns ("1917 ″) creates a story that blends Science Fiction with Supernatural Psychological Thriller addressing issues of mental health and sexual exploitation in the entertainment industry.
The female duo of Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie is extraordinary, the chemistry between them is palpable on screen. There is a dance of mirrors, dreams and realities that affects its two protagonists.

Rita Tushingham English actress, especially remembered for her roles in the films A Taste of Honey (1961), The Knack ...and How to Get It (1965), and Doctor Zhivago (1965).

Terence Stamp English actor, Golden Globe winner for the new star of the year 1962. He has worked in films such as The Infernal Frigate (1963), The Collector (1965), Theorem (1968).

Diana Rigg was an English actress who from 1965 to 1968 played Emma Peel in the television series The Avengers, and in 1969 played Countess Teresa de Vincenzo, wife of James Bond in the film 007 On Her Majesty's Service.

Margaret Nolan English actress, model and visual artist. She appeared in Goldfinger, A Hard Day's and six films in the Carry On series.

Setting. It recreates the famous London nightclub, Café de Paris, which opened in 1924 and recently closed in 2020. It hosted many artists such as Louise Brook, (who introduced the Charleston in London), Dorothy Dandridge, Marlene Dietrich and many others.
The Soho district of London is famous for being a center for fashion, film, and sex trade. In the film its recreation is spectacular: We see Great Windmill Street, with the legendary theater The Windmill), and the neighboring Old Compton Street. We also see Carnaby Street, Greek Street, and Berwick Street, as well as Soho Square (with its hut in the center).
Music. In the film we hear songs that were very famous in 1960's England, (apologies if any escape me): Eloise by Barry Ryan, Puppet on a String and Always Something There to Remind Me by Sandie Shaw, Land Of 1000 Dances by Walker Brothers, [Love Is Like A] Heat Wave by The Who, A World Without Love by Peter and Gordon, Starstruck by The Kinks, Beat Girl by The John Barry Seven , Downtown by Petula Clark, . You're My World" by Cilla Black, I Got my Mind Set on You by James Ray If we listen to them carefully and see the images we realize that they fit perfectly with the narrative, for example: When Land of 1000 Dances" by Walker Brothers plays, the piece works as an analogy of the personal hell in which Sandy is immersed while the melody takes on a nightmarish quality.

Plot clues.
Beginning the film Ellie emulates Audrey Hepburn in 1961's Breakfast at Tiffany's at Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1961, already this foreshadows the film's intended role-play. Eloise's grandmother hints at the granddaughter's ability to feel and see things. While they are in the library, John expresses to Ellie his surprise at the number of men disappearing in Soho in such a relatively short period of time.
There is a dreamlike scene in which Jack seduces Sandy/Ellie and kisses her passionately, in the morning at the Institute Jocasta teases Ellie by telling her not to be so obvious, there Ellie realizes she has a scarred neck from one of Jack's kisses. Although this idea was not exploited it implies that what Ellie felt and saw carried over into the real world.
References and influences.
The film presents influences from Nicholas Roeg's 1973 film Don't Look Now, Roman Polanski's 1965 film Repulsion. There are references to E.T., (yes, Spielberg's Alien), to Pulp Fiction and Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, (look at the first dance scene in the club, and the fire at the end), believe it or not, to one of the scenes of Nightmare on Elm Street, to Alice in Wonderland, Sixth Sense, The Purple Rose of Cairo or Midnight in Paris, both by Woody Allen.
Given the type of film that is presented to us, it is highly recommended to see it in a movie theater, where you can distinguish the excellent staging of the film, the details of London in the 60's, and its music. Personally if you ask me I would say that the film is a pastiche and a mixture of genres, but very well cooked and with each ingredient in its place. Entertaining and very good! Recommended and already a candidate for cult movie.
