Hello friends, welcome to my blog, taking advantage of the last long weekend, for the holidays, I had the opportunity to see several movies and series that I had pending and discovered others that I did not have on the list. Pieces Of Her, is a miniseries that premiered at the end of last month on Netflix, it caught my attention because the protagonist of it and also its producer is Toni Collette, one of the most versatile and multifaceted actresses in film and television. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Karin Slaughter, a 2018 bestseller.
Hola amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog, aprovechando el fin de semana pasado largo, por los días de fiestas, tuve la oportunidad de ver varias películas y series que tenia pendiente y descubrí otras que no tenía en lista. Pieces Of Her, es una miniserie que se estreno a finales del mes pasado por Netflix, me llamo la atención porque su protagonista y también productora es Toni Collette, una de las actrices más versátiles y polifacética del cine y la tv. La serie está basada en la novela homónima de Karin Slaughter, un bestseller de 2018.
The premise of the series is that we ask ourselves: How well do we know the people we love? To what extent can you live on lies to hide your past? Does protecting a loved one justify lying? These and other questions are what we ask ourselves when we see this miniseries. Laura (Toni Collette), is a mother who lives in a quiet town away from everything, together with her 30-year-old daughter Andy (Bella Heathcote), they lead a quiet and boring life. Everything changes when an incident occurs on Andy's birthday in a restaurant, when an armed man shoots all the diners, killing several and threatening Andy with death, for which Laura reacts to defend her daughter.
La serie tiene como premisa que nos preguntemos ¿Qué tanto conocemos a las personas que amamos?, ¿Hasta que punto puedes vivir de las mentiras para esconder tú pasado?, ¿Proteger a un ser querido justifica mentir? Estas y otras preguntas son las que nos hacemos cuando vemos esta miniserie. Laura (Toni Collette), es una madre que vive es un pueblo tranquilo alejado de todo, junto a su hija Andy (Bella Heathcote), de 30 años llevan una vida tranquila y aburrida. Todo cambia cuando el día del cumpleaños de Andy en un restaurante ocurre un incidente, cuando un hombre armado dispara a todos los comensales, asesinando a varios y amenazando de muerte a Andy, por lo cual Laura reacciona para defender a su hija.
As a result of this incident, Laura begins to behave strangely and tries to keep her daughter away at all costs. The media on the networks and news of what happened in the restaurant make Laura famous even when she tried to go unnoticed. This fame in the news and media unleashes the skeletons hidden in Laura's closet for more than 30 years, forcing her to act to protect her daughter. Andy does not understand what is happening and begins his search to find out the truth of what is happening and the reason for the lies that his mother told him all her life.
A raíz de este incidente Laura empieza a comportarse rara y trata de alejar a su hija a toda costa. Lo mediático en las redes y noticias de lo que paso en el restaurante hacen que Laura se haga famosa aun cuando trato de pasar desapercibida. Esta fama en las noticias y medios desata los esqueletos escondidos en el closet de Laura por más de 30 años obligándola actuar para proteger a su hija. Andy no entiende que pasa y comienza su búsqueda por saber la verdad de lo que está pasando y el porque de las mentiras que su madre le contó toda su vida.
The series shows us during the eight chapters through flashbacks the life of Laura and what led her to where she is. This suspense and mystery thriller leaves us with little of Laura's story and Andy's search for the truth. I liked the series, it's entertaining and has interesting twists and solid characters. It had a magnificent cast such as: Jessica Barden, Joseph Dempsie, Jacop Scipio, Omari Hardwick, Gil Birmingham, among others. The negative is the character of Andy in the first chapters, sometimes he despairs with the way he behaves in the face of adversity to be a 30-year-old adult, the way he reacts does not seem normal to me.
La serie nos muestra durante los ocho capítulos a través de flashbacks la vida de la Laura y lo que la llevo a donde esta. Este thriller de suspenso y misterio nos va deshojando de poco la historia de Laura y la búsqueda de Andy por saber la verdad. La serie me gusto, es entretenida y tiene giros interesantes y personajes sólidos. Conto con un elenco magnifico como: Jessica Barden, Joseph Dempsie, Jacop Scipio, Omari Hardwick, Gil Birmingham, entre otros. Lo negativo es el personaje de Andy en los primeros capítulos, a veces desespera con la manera de comportarse ante las adversidades para ser una persona adulta de 30 años, la manera de reaccionar no me parece normal.
What I loved is Toni's performance, always that coldness in her look as if lost and then the way she reacted despite everything, I never get tired of seeing this extraordinary actress, I don't know if there will be a second season, there were unresolved issues regarding Laura's brother (Jasper), and what happened in her family. I hope that if there is another season it is to close the cycle and not lengthen it, that many times ruins a good series, I think series should be 4 seasons maximum and ideally 2. When they are too long they kill characters, add new ones and many Sometimes the originals go away, I don't particularly like it.
Lo que me encantó es la actuación de Toni, siempre esa frialdad en la mirada como perdida y luego la manera de reaccionar a pesar de todo, no me canso de ver a esta extraordinaria actriz, no se si habrá segunda temporada, quedaron asuntos sin resolver con respecto al hermano (Jasper), de Laura y lo que paso en su familia. Espero que si hay otra temporada sea para cerrar el ciclo y no alargarla, eso muchas veces arruina una buena serie, pienso que las series deberían ser de 4 temporadas como máximo y lo ideal 2. Cuando se alargan demasiado matan personajes, agregan nuevos y muchas veces se van los originales, particularmente no me gusta.
We will have to wait for what Netflix decides, if it decides to close that door or give one more season to close it. The series seemed good to me with some gaps in the story that should have been deepened, but in general it is entertaining and manages to keep you attentive with the story. That's why for me this series has a rating of 7 out of 10.
Habrá que esperar a lo que decida Netflix, si decide cerrar esa puerta o dar una temporada más para cerrarla. La serie me pareció bien con algunas lagunas en la historia que debieron profundizar, pero en lo general es entretenida y logra tenerte atento con la historia. Por ello para mi esta serie tiene una calificación de 7 de 10.
