This film is based on the first novel by Mexican writer Laura Esquivel, who broke with this novel the record for the best-selling book in Mexico in the last 20 years. In this novel we go through the stories that surround the de la Garza family based on the narratives written by Tita, the family's youngest daughter, in a book where her recipes mark the passage through the different periods of her life .

Este film está basado en la primera novela de la escritora mexicana Laura Esquivel, quién rompió con esta novela, el récord del libro más vendido en México, en los últimos 20 años. En esta novela recorremos las historias que envuelve la familia de los de la Garza a partir de las narraciones escritas por Tita, la hija menor de la familia en un libro donde sus recetas marcan el paso por las diferentes épocas de su vida.
The film is set at the beginning of the twentieth century between 1910 - 1917, at the time of the Mexican Revolution, where the names of Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa begin to be heard.
It is a film of drama and romance, where its protagonist Tita is verbally and psychologically controlled and abused by a controlling, selfish and possessive mother. There is no more sincere love than the love of cooking, Tita argued, a lover of cooking is condemned to remain single. But she falls in love with Pedro who, to be close to her, marries her sister Rosaura. The recipes that Tita makes are always accompanied by the absence of Pedro, the absence of love and understanding, found only in the ranch cook, Nacha. With Nacha and through learning from her as a child in the kitchen, she learns to have the confidence and strength to overcome her misfortunes with her cleverness.
La película se sitúa a comienzos del siglo veinte entre 1910 – 1917, en tiempos de la revolución mexicana, en donde comienzan a escucharse los nombres de Emiliano Zapata y Pancho Villa.
Es un film de drama y romance, donde su protagonista Tita es controlada y maltratada verbal y psicológicamente, por una madre controladora, egoísta y posesiva. No hay amor más sincero que el amor a la cocina, argumento Tita, una enamorada de la cocina está condenada a permanecer soltera. Pero se enamora de Pedro quien, para estar cerca de ella, se casa con su hermana Rosaura. Las recetas que Tita elabora siempre van acompañadas por la ausencia de Pedro, la ausencia del amor y la comprensión, encontrada únicamente en la cocinera del rancho, Nacha. Con Nacha y a través de su aprendizaje desde niña en la cocina, aprende a tener la confianza y fuerza para superar sus desgracias con astucia.
This film, despite being fiction, brings together a series of elements, considered as magical realism, that knew how to intelligently weave from the perspective of a young woman, what was experienced in Mexico in times of the revolution.
An impossible love story, when Tita falls in love with Pedro and her mother decides to marry her to her sister. Because being her youngest daughter, her duty was to take care of her mother until her death despite the abuse suffered by her.
Esta película a pesar de ser ficción reunión una serie de elementos, considerados como realismo mágico, que supo hilar de manera inteligente desde la perspectiva de una mujer joven, lo que se vivió en México en tiempos de la revolución.
Una historia de amor imposible, cuando Tita se enamora de Pedro y su madre decide casarla con su hermana. Porque al ser la hija menor su deber era cuidar a su madre hasta la muerte a pesar de los abusos sufridos por ella.
But despite the years, this love lasts beyond time. Tita and Pedro cannot help their feelings and continue to see each other despite being married to her sister.
The tradition of Mexican food plays an important role in the film and shows how hearts can be healed through it, as well as serving as therapy to ward off problems and anguish. But it also serves to woo the man she loves.
Pero a pesar de los años esté amor, perdura más allá del tiempo. Tita y Pedro no pueden evitar sus sentimientos y continúan viéndose a pesar de estar casado con su hermana.
La tradición de la comida mexicana, juega un importante papel en la película y demuestra como a través de ella se pueden curar los corazones, además de servir como terapia para alejar los problemas y angustias. Pero también sirve para enamorar al hombre que ama.
This film obtained nominations at film festivals such as: Goya Permios 1992, Golden Globe, BAFTA, among others, of international cinema as best foreign film, in addition to winning 10 Ariel awards. It has been one of the biggest award-winning films abroad and the highest grossing.
This film knew how to weave the plot of each of its characters very well and was faithful to the homonymous novel that inspired the film. With a high budget in the style of American movies, and very well marketed, this film achieved what a Mexican film had never done before. Its director Alfonso Arau and husband of the novel's writer, knew how to combine the economic and artistic success of the film intelligently, creating a cinematographic masterpiece.
Esta película, obtuvo nominaciones en los festivales de cine como: Permios Goya 1992, Globo de Oro, BAFTA, entre otros, del cine internacional como mejor película extranjera, además de ganar 10 premios Ariel. Ha sido uno de los mayores films galardonado en el extranjero y la más taquillera.
Esta película supo hilar muy bien la trama de cada uno de sus personajes y fue fiel a la novela homónima que inspiró el film. Con un alto presupuesto al estilo de las películas americanas, y muy bien comercializada este film logró lo que nunca antes una película mexicana había hecho antes. Su director Alfonso Arau y esposo de la escritora de la novela, supo juntar el éxito económico y artístico del film inteligentemente, creando una obra maestra cinematográfica.
