Esta es una película británico-estadounidense del año 1968, que ha al cansado un sitial de honor entre las producciones pertenecientes al género de la ciencia ficción de todos los tiempos y se ha convertido en una de las más grandes obras de culto en la historia del cine en general. En su momento fue una propuesta que revoluciono el séptimo arte y estableció un hito para la forma en que se desarrollaban las cintas del género y en especial los efectos visuales antes y en la que se realizan después de este filme, de hecho, fue una entre varias obras (La naranja mecánica, El resplandor, Ojos bien cerrados...) que consiguieron que su director, Stanley Kubrick, sea considerado uno de los cineastas más influyentes del siglo XX.

Yo vi esta película hace ya algunos años, motivado por la curiosidad, ya que al investigar sobre mi genero preferido de cine y literatura, encontré excelentes críticas sobre esta cinta, de modo que la busqué, aunque sin demasiadas expectativas, ya que, al ser tan antigua seguramente, pensé, no me resultaría muy entretenida, pero verla para mí era como un reto para culturizarme sobre el tema. Mi gran sorpresa es que el largometraje me pareció mucho más acorde a los nuevos tiempos de lo que pude imaginar, por supuesto con cosas en las que se nota su “edad”, pero con otras muchas que se aproximan bastante a lo que podríamos ver en una producción de la actualidad.
I saw this film a few years ago, motivated by curiosity, since when researching about my favorite genre of cinema and literature, I found excellent reviews about this film, so I looked for it, although without too many expectations, since, being So old surely, I thought, it would not be very entertaining, but seeing it for me was like a challenge to cultivate myself on the subject. My great surprise is that the feature film seemed much more in keeping with the times than I could imagine, of course with things that show its "age", but with many others that are quite close to what we could see in a current production.
Por otra parte, la historia está basada en un texto nada más y nada menos que del escritor y científico británico Arthur C. Clarke, quien es considerado como uno de los “tres grandes” autores de ciencia ficción del sigo XX junto a Isaac Asimov y Robert A. Heinlein. Su argumento me parecido muy interesante, pues narra la intervención de una raza extraterrestre en la evolución humana por medio de unos particulares monolitos, que aparecen misteriosamente en diferentes puntos de la historia de nuestra raza, empezando cuando la especie apenas había evolucionado a un estado homínido.
On the other hand, the story is based on a text nothing more and nothing less than the British writer and scientist Arthur C. Clarke, who is considered one of the "great three" science fiction authors of the twentieth century along with Isaac Asimov and Robert A. Heinlein. His argument seemed very interesting to me, because it narrates the intervention of an extraterrestrial race in human evolution by means of some particular monoliths, which appear mysteriously at different points in the history of our race, starting when the species had barely evolved to a hominid state.

Luego la siguiente parte presenta a otro grupo de astronautas que emprenden un viaje durante el año 2001 con destino a Júpiter, donde se encuentra otro monolito. La última parte es la más surrealista e intrigante, de modo que no voy a mencionar nada al respecto, tienen que verla por sí mismos.
The monoliths appear to have been placed on these sites by an alien civilization, which is not physically shown, in order to encourage human civilization to expand its knowledge. The narrative is divided into parts that correspond to very distant time spaces, one of them shows how during the 1960s a group of astronauts investigated the presence of a strange monolith on the Moon. Then the next part presents another group of astronauts who undertake a trip during the year 2001 to Jupiter, where another monolith is found. The last part is the most surreal and intriguing, so I'm not going to mention anything about it, you have to see it for yourself.
Los temas que aborda no son únicamente la evolución de la especie humana y la intervención en ella de una raza extraterrestre, sino que también toca sutilmente otros tópicos como los avances de la tecnología y la inteligencia artificial en particular. Las técnicas empleadas para lograr sus impecables efectos especiales han servido de referencia para otros muchos creadores audiovisuales y su profundidad intelectual trajo consigo otro modo de entender la ciencia ficción en la gran pantalla, ya que hasta el momento las películas del género se limitaban a tratar temáticas más superfluas y fantasiosas.
The topics it addresses are not only the evolution of the human species and the intervention in it by an extraterrestrial race, but also subtly touches on other topics such as advances in technology and artificial intelligence in particular. The techniques used to achieve their impeccable special effects have served as a reference for many other audiovisual creators and their intellectual depth brought with it another way of understanding science fiction on the big screen, since until now the films of the genre were limited to dealing with themes more superfluous and fanciful.
Como dato interesante, su banda sonora incluyo entre otras piezas el poema sinfónico “Así habló Zaratustra” del director de orquesta alemán Richard Strauss y el tema de vals “El Danubio azul” del Johann Strauss (hijo), el llamado rey del vals. Ambos temas son sumamente famosos y han sido referenciados en numerosas producciones de cine y televisión a lo largo de la historia. De modo que, si no conocías esta película, al menos seguramente has escuchado la música de su soundtrack pues es muy popular en la cultura pop.
As an interesting fact, its soundtrack included among other pieces the symphonic poem "Thus spoke Zarathustra" by the German conductor Richard Strauss and the waltz theme "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss (son), the so-called king of the waltz. Both themes are extremely famous and have been referenced in numerous film and television productions throughout history. So, if you didn't know about this movie, at least you've probably heard the music on its soundtrack as it's very popular in pop culture.
En conclusión, la película es muy buena, tiene efectos visuales impresionantes para su época, hace uso de un realismo científico que ha influenciado a muchas otras producciones cinematográficas de las cuales la más significativa seguramente es la película Interestelar del director Christopher Nolan y que fue estrenada en el año 2014. Sin duda “2001: A Space Odyssey” es uno de los clásicos más importantes e influyentes de la historia y aun hoy en día puede ser muy disfrutada por los amantes de la ciencia ficción, eso sí tiene un final que resulta bastante confuso pues tiene grandes implicaciones filosóficas, pero en términos generales el largometraje ha “envejecido” muy bien y está a la altura en cuanto a efectos especiales a muchas producciones actuales.
In conclusion, the film is very good, it has impressive visual effects for its time, it makes use of a scientific realism that has influenced many other film productions, the most significant of which is surely the Interstellar film by director Christopher Nolan, which was released. in 2014. Undoubtedly "2001: A Space Odyssey" is one of the most important and influential classics in history and even today it can be very enjoyed by science fiction lovers, that does have an ending that is quite confusing as it has great philosophical implications, but in general terms the feature film has “aged” very well and is at the height of many current productions in terms of special effects.
