I really don't like that Netflix has some sort of political and social agenda in a lot of their programming and it turns me off to Netflix in a general sense. I would have probably just returned to my old pirate ways but I don't actually pay for my subscription anyway so it doesn't make sense to walk away from it. The other day I was doing what I always do and that was to just blindly shuffle through what was on offer and I came across a series called "The Mind Explained".
It seemed interesting enough and the episodes were only around 22 minutes long each to I figured it would be pretty good then I saw when the opening credits were flashing in front of me that Vox had produced this so I was like "oh crap, there is no way they made this without a political slant" and well, that is exactly what they did.
The episodes are supposed to be about how the brain operates but I guess that Vox just can't friggin help themselves because it quickly becomes a series of statements attacking right-wing groups, anti-vaxxers, and of course Trump supporters.
The sole episode that I picked out was meant to be about brainwashing because that seems like a very interesting topic to me. Rather than actually focusing on real brainwashing they went on to try to paint anyone who isn't a Democrat as if they were brainwashed by their media and their peers. At no point in time they focus on any other sort of political ideology. They featured a few guests that were ex white-supremacists as well in a subliminal way of attempting to lump all of these things into the same category.
They also attacked anti covid vaccine and QAnon believers and suggest that they are all brainwashed from confirmation bias websites but make no mention of the fact that almost all of media and social media will have this information scrubbed from the internet if any of those theories or even actual statistics are even mentioned.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that Vox would do this sort of thing because honestly, it's really all they know how to do anymore and their business is suffering as a consequence.
I just find it a bit ironic that I would watch an episode of a show that was supposed to be an expose about brainwashing and what we are presented with is actually an attempt to brainwash anyone that watches it.
I will admit that once I saw the word VOX I already knew that I was going to be presented with slanted information. While I don't think this show is very good I believe that watching an episode or two is kind of fun just so we can revel in how far gone Vox is. They really can't manage to make anything without making it political.
