Trama:
Kevin Wendell Crumb (protagonizado por James McAvoy) es un joven que posee un trastorno de personalidad disociativo, esto es, múltiple personalidad. Tras haber sido victima de abusos durante su infancia, desarrolló 23 personalidades, todas de distintas edades, géneros, culturas y capacidades físicas, que lo ayudan y protegen en situaciones estresantes tomando el control de su cuerpo.
Dennis, una de sus personalidades más astutas e inteligentes, secuestra a tres chicas y las oculta en un sótano, junto con Patricia, otra de sus personalidades, toman el control de la luz y siguen órdenes de una personalidad que estuvo dormida por algún tiempo (siendo el terror de muchas de las demás personalidades, a la que llaman La Bestia por tener habilidades sobrehumanas), sostiene la creencia que debe comer almas puras para mantenerse vivo.
Plot:
Kevin Wendell Crumb (starring James McAvoy) is a young man who possesses a dissociative personality disorder, that is, multiple personality. Having been abused during her childhood, she developed 23 personalities, all of different ages, genders, cultures and physical abilities, who help and protect her in stressful situations by taking control of her body.
Dennis, one of his most cunning and intelligent personalities, kidnaps three girls and hides them in a basement, along with Patricia, another of his personalities, take control of the light and follow orders of a personality who was asleep for some time (being the terror of many of the other personalities, who they call The Beast for having superhuman abilities) , sustains the belief that he must eat pure souls to stay alive.
Kevin asiste a terapia con Karen Fletcher, una psiquiatra (interpretada por Betty Buckley) que lo ayuda a lidiar con su trastorno; ella obvia la existencia de La Bestia, aunque en sesiones pasadas algunas de las personalidades la nombraban, sus capacidades sobrehumanas la ponía en duda de tal asunto, sin embargo, conforme avanza la película se da cuenta que algo extraño relacionado a ello está pasando, y al ser la única que conoce a la mayoría de las personalidades, es la única con la llave para ayudar a las chicas.
Entre las chicas secuestradas tenemos a Claire, Marcia y Casey, donde se presta especial atención a esta última (Interpretada por Anya Taylor-Joy).
Kevin attends therapy with Karen Fletcher, a psychiatrist (played by Betty Buckley) who helps him deal with his disorder; she ignores the existence of The Beast, although in past sessions some of the personalities named her, her superhuman abilities questioned her in such a matter, however, as the film progresses she realizes that something strange related to it is happening, and being the only one who knows most personalities, she is the only one with the key to help the girls.
Among the kidnapped girls we have Claire, Marcia and Casey, where special attention is paid to the latter (played by Anya Taylor-Joy).
Casey is a very reserved girl, has no friends and always has problems at school; as a child she went into the woods with her father and uncle to camp and hunt, so some of the knowledge her father passed on to her applies them to the situation where she is, acting in the most patient and condescending manner with her kidnapper. She also retains trauma from her childhood, so she wants to get out of there, so she tries to use any clues that get them out of trouble.
Opinión personal:
Primeramente, quiero aplaudir a la impecable actuación de James McAvoy, es decir, si interpretar un personaje tiene complejidades, imagínense tener que interpretar 23 en una misma película. En el tiempo dentro de la película no hay tantos cambios de vestuarios, el actor se vale de sus expresiones faciales y voz para caracterizar la personalidad correspondiente en el momento. Cada vez que había un cambio de una personalidad a otra se me erizaba la piel, las transiciones eran sutiles pero fáciles de identificar.
Hay un poco de misterio en la trama, no solo por el origen del trastorno de personalidad de Kevin, sino también de la vida de Casey; asimismo, hay escenas realmente tensas, donde no sabes qué puede pasar y la expectativa te genera un nudo en el estómago.
Personal Opinion:
First of all, I want to applaud James McAvoy's impeccable performance, I mean, if playing a character has complexities, imagine having to play 23 in the same film. In time within the film there are not so many costume changes, the actor uses his facial expressions and voice to characterize the corresponding personality at the moment. Every time there was a change from one personality to another my skin was curled, the transitions were subtle but easy to identify.
There is a bit of mystery in the plot, not only because of the origin of Kevin's personality disorder, but also of Casey's life; also, there are really tense scenes, where you don't know what can happen and the expectation generates a knot in your stomach.
This film hooked me from start to finish, and no matter how many times I see them, the emotions it causes me are always the same. In short, it's a thriller-laden film, as the story progresses the intrigue increases, it's a film that probably won't let you take off the screen. I recommend it 100%.
