Sypnosis:

In this story the protagonist is Mima Kirigoe, from the female pop group called CHAM, which was very much loved in Japan. After announcing her retirement from the stage to become an actress not all of her fans were supportive, but she needed to get out of her burdened life as a pop idol.

Although she expects things in her life to get better, Mima starts to notice that there is something strange, she receives calls and faxes from strangers at her home, but she tries not to let her fear get the better of her and continue with her new life acting in a series that her agency got for her. At this point we realize that Mima might be being stalked, there is someone who is not happy with her retirement from music and hates to see her new image, then the threats start to come: an explosive letter and the feeling of being watched at every step she takes in and out of her home.

"Mima's Room" is a website designed as a personal diary in which every day there is a new entry with some anecdote of Mima's life. Our protagonist is curious to know the content that someone is creating about her, maybe it is a fan account, but as she reads the entries, she realizes that this person really wants to impersonate her and it makes her shudder that he knows about her life in such detail.

Her old band seems to be achieving success, on the other hand, Mima begins to question many things, then some hallucinations will arise that will make her doubt her own identity, did she do the right thing when she left the stage?

The threats come back: there are two dead people in her social circle, but only Mima seems to be aware of the connection between these events, no one else seems to believe her, which makes her enter a crisis, she is alone, terrified of being the next victim of the internet stalker.

My Opinion

I was excited to see this movie since I saw Paprika, since both were directed by Satoshi Kom, a director known for making movies with surreal and psychological thriller plots, so I had an idea of what I might find (but maybe I wasn't too prepared because I had to watch the movie twice in one week to be able to process the story well haha).

Basically this movie tells us about bigotry, bullying and mental disorders.

The plot is intense, as it progresses each scene becomes more dramatic. I like the order in which the events and characters are presented, there are several winks of what could happen that you would only be able to understand if you are very detailed or if you see the movie a few times, but they are there and form an intriguing atmosphere full of expectation.

A very curious fact is that this movie plays with two planes: reality and fiction, the reality where Mima is a former Pop Idol and aspiring actress and the fiction where she plays a character in a criminology series who happens to have multiple personality, there are scenes where you don't know what is real and what is not, if Mima is playing her role or if these incidents are real.

The animation is good, it is not spectacular like Paprika but there are visual effects and a nice atmosphere, there is contrast of light, colors and planes in each scene that enrich the plot, there are a few scenes that are worthy of making fan arts for the beautiful they look.

There is something curious that happened to me, and it is that I did not notice that I downloaded this movie in English, with English subtitles, I could have downloaded it again with Spanish subtitles, but honestly I was lazy, in the end it was not so bad, to my surprise my basic knowledge of the language allowed me to understand the movie.

Do I recommend the movie? Of course I do, anyone who enjoys movies full of suspense and with a psychological component I know you will like Perfect Blue, the psychological thriller is one of my favorite movie genres and that this is an animated movie makes it much more appealing to me.

En esta historia la protagonista es Mima Kirigoe, del grupo femenino pop llamado CHAM, el cual era muy querido en Japón. Tras anunciar su retiro de los escenarios para convertirse en actriz no todos sus fans la apoyaron, pero ella necesitaba salir de su agobiada vida como pop idol.

Aunque espera que las cosas en su vida mejoren, Mima empieza a notar que hay algo raro, recibe llamadas y fax de desconocidos en su vivienda, pero trata de no dejarse llevar por el temor y continuar con su nueva vida actuando en una serie que su agencia consiguió para ella. En este punto nos damos cuenta que Mima podría estar siendo acosada, hay alguien que no es feliz con su retiro de la música y odia ver su nueva imagen, entonces las amenazas empiezan a llegar: una carta explosiva y el sentimiento de estar siendo observada en cada paso que da dentro y fuera de su hogar.

“Mima´s Room” es un sitio web diseñado a modo de diario personal en el que cada día hay una nueva entrada con alguna anécdota de la vida de Mima. Nuestra protagonista se muestra curiosa por saber el contenido que alguien está creando sobre ella, quizá es una cuenta fan, pero conforme lee las entradas, se da cuenta que realmente esta persona se quiere hacer pasar por ella y le causa escalofríos que sepa de su vida de forma tan detallada.

Su antiguo grupo parece estar alcanzando el éxito, por otro lado, Mima se empieza a cuestionar muchas cosas, entonces nacerán algunas alucinaciones que la harán dudar de su propia identidad ¿hizo lo correcto al bajarse de los escenarios?

Vuelven las amenazas: hay dos muertos en su círculo social, pero solo Mima parece ser consciente de la conexión entre estos sucesos, nadie más parece creerle, lo que hace entrar en una crisis, está sola, aterrada por ser la siguiente víctima del acosador de internet.

Mi opinión:

Estaba entusiasmada por ver esta película desde que vi Paprika, ya que ambas fueron dirigidas por Satoshi Kom, un director reconocido por hacer películas con tramas surrealistas y de thriller psicológico, así que tenía una idea de qué podría encontrarme (pero quizá no estaba demasiado preparada porque he tenido que ver la película dos veces en una misma semana para poder procesar bien la historia JAJA).

Básicamente esta película nos habla sobre el fanatismo, el acoso y los trastornos mentales.

La trama es intensa, a medida que avanza cada escena se vuelve más dramática. Me agrada el orden en que se van presentando los hechos y los personajes, hay varios guiños de lo que podría pasar que solo serías capaz de comprender si eres muy detallista o si ves la película unas cuantas veces, pero están ahí y forman un ambiente intrigante y lleno de expectativa.

Un hecho muy curioso es que esta película juega con dos planos: la realidad y la ficción, la realidad donde Mima es una ex Pop Idol y aspirante a actriz y la ficción donde interpreta un personaje en una serie de criminología que resulta tener personalidad múltiple, hay escenas donde no sabes qué es real y qué no, si Mima está interpretando su papel o si estos incidentes son reales.

La animación es buena, no es espectacular como la de Paprika pero hay efectos visuales y una ambientación agradable, existe contraste de luz, colores y planos en cada escena que enriquecen la trama, hay unas cuantas escenas que son dignas de hacerles fan arts por los bonitos que se ven.

Hay algo curioso que me ocurrió, y es que, no me fijé en que descargué esta película en inglés, con subtítulos en inglés, pude haberla vuelto a descargar con subtítulos en español, pero sinceramente me dio pereza, al final no estuvo tan mal, para mi sorpresa mis conocimientos básicos en el idioma me permitieron entender la película.

¿Recomiendo la película? Por supuesto que sí, cualquiera que disfrute de películas llenas de suspenso y con un componente psicológico sé que le gustará Perfect Blue, el thriller psicológico es de mis géneros de películas favoritos y que esta sea una película animada lo hace mucho más atractivo para mí.
