No child should ever be abused.. No child.. Children are a gift from God and so they should be loved and cherished and admonished the right way. There is no such thing as tough love. Tough love won't be love at all after the child's psych have been destroyed and damaged.

I TONYA is a must see movie for parents. you know what? I'm glad it's not borne out of the writer's and director's imagination, at least we won't call it a fiction. It is a true life story and we get to see how a parent's good or bad attitude can make or destroy a child.

Her life was filled with abuse, ranging from an abusive venom tongued mother, LaVona, to an abusive husband, to judges who never liked her because she was not the national figure they needed to represent United States. They (judges) needed someone graceful, feminine and from a stable home as against Tonya's athletic body and unstable family, but Tonya proved unstoppable as she worked her way to the top.

Her success ended as soon as it started after her husband, Jef Gillooly and her bodyguard, Shawn Eckardt launched an attack on Tonya's biggest rival Nancy Kerrigan, destroying her knee cap and hindering her from performing for the 1994 US championship. Tonya's legacy and everything she worked for in her whole life, came crashing down and her career ended in her twenties.

This movie is based on Tonya, Jeff and LaVona's interviews and it suggests that Tonya is innocent. Though Margot Robbie, a 27 year old Australian actress who played Tonya didn't look anything like her, she led us through the life of Tonya with her outstanding performance. I went through some of Tonya's skating videos and I'm just fascinated on the way Margot embraced the character. she showed us the anger, the hurt and the pain that kept Tonya going and helped her attain reasonable heights. and each time Tonya wins a competition, Margot always portrays this joy as though it is her victory, she always has this 'fuck you haters' look that's funny. with Margot on screen, you just have to be sympathetic with Tonya, whether the story is true or not. Though Margot played an outstanding role. I think Allison Janney stole the show with her role as LaVona. I can't believe Tonya's mum is really as frightening as Allison's role. A woman that verbally and physically abuses her child for no reason, but one thing is certain, she put Tonya on the ice while she destroyed the psychological and mental health of her child. Allison's performance was so good that I always dread what evil the witchy LaVona was going to do next. Director Craig did a goods job in picking the appropriate casts for this movie.
Though I do not know if Tonya is innocent of the attack that she was accused to be part of, though the movie says she is, but I do know that her upbringing is WRONG!!! As the result of the abuse she suffered from her mother, she got an early marriage with a man that beats her up. She thought to herself my mum hit me and she loves me, so if my husband hits me, that means he loves me to. We watch her being dragged and thrown violently out of a chair as a 7 year old, being verbally abused publicly by a woman that was supposed to protect her, her head being hit on a glass, on a mirror by a man she loved. She is woman that was failed by the most important people in her life and yet she channeled that pain and hurt and created a success (though short lived) for herself and that is truly inspiring. She turned herself into a hero in this movie. Focusing on her success, I TONYA is one hell of a movie I need to start a new year.
