Ingrid Thorburn (Aubrey Plaza) is a lonely lady that craves social attention and acceptance, she mistakes mere Instagram likes with real friendship. After she pepper sprays a bride, Charlotte on her wedding day for not inviting her to her wedding (it turned out that Ingrid have never met Charlotte, the latter only liked the former's picture on Instagram and Ingrid mistook it for friendship), she was given restraining order and spent some time in a health institution. After her release, one could expect that she has learnt her lessons but the reverse is the case as she finds another victim to prey on Instagram.

Taylor Sloane(Elizabeth Olsen) is an instragram goddess, her life is the perfect example of everything Ingrid wants. She is married to Ezra (Wyatt Russel) an artist who haven't sold even one painting in his career. Having learnt nothing from her previous encounter with Charlotte, Ingrid goes to Los Angeles with the money her deceased mum left her to stalk her way into Taylor's life. She rents a room from Dan (O'Shea Jackson), a batman script writer. Taylor posts her every move on Instagram, ranging from her favourite restaurant, her books, salon, home etc, thus making it easier for Ingrid to find her. All she had to do is show up at the places Taylor goes and do the things she does but how for long will she be able to keep up with the lies..

Spicer directs an amazing comedy that will leave us reflective on our daily lives. He exposes the reality of the effects social media exposure have on us, laced with a little humour. But even after laughing, ingrid goes west will make you think twice next time you want to publicize your life in the media. Despite the comedy, Spicer has succeeded in driving his message into the viewer's heart. A wonderful performance by Aubrey Plaza playing Ingrid Thorbourne, she shows that nothing is always as it seems in social media and a perfect social media life doesn't show a perfect life. Her character is desperate, her looks, her smile will make you wonder what she will do next. Elizabeth Olsen is also charming in her character, Taylor Sloane. Her character is selfish, she fakes a relationship as long as it benefits her. Spicer also spiced up the characters by adding Nick, Taylor's brother, who is not fooled by Ingrid's acts of kindness and will do anything to expose her. He is a sarcastic trouble maker.
just like Ingrid, sometimes we feel left out when the people around us are making progress, but that doesn't mean we should stalk them or live their lives, thereby losing sight of ourselves.
The movie is quiet touching with a justifiable end. It reminds us that all that glitters is not gold and our happiness should not be built on what we see on social media. Next time you want publicize your private life, think twice or you might end up with Ingrid or something worse in your life. The movie is highly educative and entertaining.
