Florence Pugh performs excellently well in this dark feminist drama

Recently, my love for old century movies has increased, not that I love history anyway, in fact I find history a very boring subject, I'd rather know about the future than the past. But I guess it's a result of my love for nature, old century movies have a way of showing how beautiful the world was before industrialization and technology. The beautiful fields and trees that are replaced by industries. The flowing gowns and beautiful hair pieces that adorns the women's body which are replaced by extreme nudity. The fresh air which is polluted by industrial practices, the natural food and spices replaced by a can of cancer. The old century had it's own ills to, example the way it treated women and as a woman, I don't wish to be born then. Even if this century is not perfect, it is far better for me.
Lady Macbeth is a story of a girl, Katherine (Florence Pugh) in the 19th century who was sold into marriage to the bitter son, Alexander of an English industrialist. Trapped in a loveless marriage to a man double her age, she was made to sit on the couch without moving her body to wait for her husband by day, and she was made to stand naked facing the wall while her husband masturbates at night.

She knew she was doomed from her wedding night, when she was telling her husband how she loved the fresh air outside but he instead ordered her to be indoors with her prayer book. Though she was young, she knew her marriage isn't supposed to be that way. After her husband left home for business, leaving her with her maid, Anna (Naomi Ackie), Katherine started a passionate affair with a servant, Sebastian (Cosmo Jarvis). Driven by lust and a well of emotions, she takes rash actions to protect her relationship.

Lady Macbeth is probably the best drama of the year, it is based on the 19th-century Russian writer Nikolai Leskov’s novella Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. not Shakespeare. At first, one would think Oldroyd Katherine will be a heroine that will receive applause from women who have been in that type situation, but instead he turns her into a dark protagonist making the plot unpredictable. Pugh's astonishing performance as Katherine is breathtaking. Though she was badly treated by those above her, one could expect that she will be gentle to those beneath her. But instead she frightened her maid into muteness. Never losing her composure or portraying any emotion, she makes evil look beautiful. Her walks in the manor and her sits by the window will make a beautiful work of art. Oldroyd have a way of making the audience sympathetic of Katherine, even when she commits unforgivable acts. The excellent cinematography, beautiful costume design and settings gives the movie a classy taste, it's a slow, subtle period drama that will leave you thoroughly entertained. Lady Macbeth is a beautiful work of art uplifted by Pugh's astonishing performance.
