As a kid, if anything goes wrong or anyone tries to bully you, the first person you would call/report to is your parent. I don't know about kids in other countries, but kids in Nigeria always say i will tell my mummy for you, or i will tell my daddy for you.. Their parents are their hero. Same goes to the parents, if their was a chaos, its a natural instinct of the parents to take their child to safety before thinking of themselves.. But in MOM AND DAD, the reverse is the case, i guess thats what makes the movie creepy.

A strange disorder breaks out in a whole country through a simple television and radio signal causing parents to turn on their children and even murder them. The household of Brent Ryan(Nicolas Cage) and Kendell Ryan(Selma Blair) is not left out, having a teenage daughter, Carly that talks back at her parents, has a black boyfriend, Dane, is distant to her Mum and keep bad friends and a 9 year old son, Josh. that's just a pain in the ass. This makes the parents to be easily influenced by the disorder and they unite to murder the kids. But unlike other kids, Carly, Dane and Josh unites to fight back and survive.

Director Taylor's imagination runs wild in this movie and i totally love it. It's a horror comedy which is neatly edited. The plot of the movie is basically about how the kids try to survive and Taylor kept the audience engaged on it, adding subtle flashbacks of 70s, and a beautiful soundtrack. The movie is unique, not following the trend of Zombies, that is characters turning into zombies and all that, but the scenes will either scare you or a make you laugh. Nicolas Cage delivers an outstanding performance, he went crazy and its the best i have seen in him in years, he puts in his best obviously as he hits a pool table with a sledge hammer. Salma Blair is also awesome, especially the part when she unites with her husband to murder the kids.. They show a connection in the movie that makes it interesting. The surrounding casts too delivered good performances. But my only problem is that we didn't get to know the characters well enough, for example Dane has an abusive father before the outbreak but we didn't get to meet hi prior the outbreak or know what the family was like, same would have said about the Ryans but the flashbacks solved the puzzle.
MOM AND DAD is a dark comedy and it lived up to that..
