Learn About Alexithymia from K-drama Flower of Evil

Review by @nnurdiani · 1533d · of Flower of Evil

Hi everybody. How are you? hope you are well. This week I have quite a lot of work. On Fridays and Saturdays, which were supposed to be holidays, I had to meet with the community. But, I enjoyed this busy week, after doing some community work, we got a gift from our director. We ate Korean food at a mall in Jakarta. This is fun. Of course, there was a discussion of work after eat.

Oh yeah, I want to tell you about an interesting K-drama. This drama is about thrillers. From K-drama, I got a lot of new lessons. I totally agree that dramas about thrillers are always interesting. The title of the K-drama is Flower of Evil. For me, this thriller drama is more about mental issues.

For some, this drama is about psychopaths. But, Psychopath is actually not the official name in mental issue. However, there are special characteristics for those who experience it, among them are people who have no feelings. In the world of psychology, this is included in the category of antisocial personality disorder. However, that doesn't mean that quiet or aloof guys/girls are considered antisocial.

I have an interesting premise about this K-drama. What if your husband is involved in a serial murder? Then, what if your husband is not perfect? The two premises became the opening for me to discuss this K-drama.

synopsis

This drama has 16 episodes. This drama is about Do Hyun Soo, played by Lee Joon Gi. He is a man who is always alone. Do Hyun Soo lived with a new name and identity for 15 years, Baek Hee Seong. Baek Hee Seong looks absolutely perfect. He has a beautiful daughter and a smart wife. In addition, Baek Hee Seong is a metal artist and gallery owner in downtown Seoul.

In this drama, Baek Hee Seong is a perfect husband and a husband. Everyone wants that. Baek Hee Seong married Cha Ji Won, who played Moon Che Won. Cha Ji Won is a detective in Seoul Police Department. He's a very innocent and merciful figure. He believes that the family he has is perfect. Even though, Baek Hee Seong's parents haven't approved it yet.

Cha Ji Won is a great cop. she has very good analysis. Until finally, Cha Ji Won worked on a very secret case. Judging from the facts, the case leads to her husband. It worried him. The case she handled was a serial murder in Gagyeong Village 15 years ago. The case dragged the name of Do Hyun Soo, her husband's real identity.

Do Hyun Soo's illness

There is a neurological disorder that befell Do Hyun Soo, the real identity of Baek Hee Seong. Do Hyun Soo suffers from alexhymia. Alexhymia makes it difficult for men to feel, identify and express their emotions. When viewed from medical science, Alexhymia does not enter into a mental disorder.

People who experience alexithymia do not have good social relationships. It may be like autism, but autism is more complex. This disease was discovered in the early 1970s. In several episodes, Do Hyun Soo or Baek Hee Seong portrays a picture of Alexhymia disease. The description of this pain is

First, it is difficult to experience feelings and emotions. It can be seen from Do Hyun Soo's answer that Do Hyun Soo does not love his wife. He doesn't know how to love. Second, it is difficult to express emotions with body movements. It can be seen from Do Hyun Soo who learned from YouTube about expressing his face for a number of emotions. Because Cha Ji Won only believes in visible things.

Third, it is difficult to respond to other people's emotions in facial expressions. It was because Do Hyun Soo was a flat figure. Do Hyun Soo couldn't recognize his own emotions. When Do Hyun Soo was a child, he was considered like a monster. Fourth, likes aloof, rigid and has a bad sense of humor. It's been seen since the first episode. Do Hyun Soo has no friends. He only has friends, he only has Kim Moo Jin (his older sister's boyfriend) and his sister. Fifth, live a bad life. This can be seen in the initial episode which tells the life of Do Hyun Soo.

Ending and Lessons taken from this K-Drama

I didn't have high expectations for this drama. At the end of this drama, Do Hyun Soo forgot himself because he was shot by the real Baek Hee Seong. Do Hyun Soo becomes a new character and writes loving his wife and daughter. From this drama I agree that children will not follow their parents.

In this story, Do Min Seok, Do Hyun Soo's father is a psychopath. However, Do Min Seok did not give birth to a child with the same personality as him. Do Hyun Soo has a different life with Do Min Soek and is not a psychopath. In contrast to Baek Hee Seong who was born into a family of doctors but became a psychopath. The negative label about Do Min Seok makes Do Hyun Soo able to create a new life. Do Hyun Soo taught me to be that no matter how badly other people view us, we should live a good life. We need to define our own life.
