Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, New Breakthrough in Marvel Studio movies

Review by @nnurdiani · 1579d · of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Hi everyone. How are you? I hope you are alright. I hope you are happy with your life. Last week, I saw a film produced by Marvel Studios. The film is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This film was nominated for an Oscar. However, only one category of this film won. A number of Marvel Studio's films are very visually beautiful. The animation shown is like animation in the real world. I also admire this film.

With this film, I think Marvel Studio has improved the quality and added diversity to the film. This film is the first Marvel superhero that tells an Asian background. I think Shang-Chi is groundbreaking by telling a Chinese, East Asian background. In research conducted by film actors, characters in Marvel Studio from East Asia are only involved 5 percent. We know that Wong Benedict is the only major Asian player.

synopsis

This film tells the story of Shang-Chi who is drawn into the mysterious network of the Ten Rings organization. These Ten Rings belonged to his father. Shang-Chi has lived in America, he left his home and forgot his past life. However, Shang-Chi must return to his home to face the problems of the past. Shang-Chi thinks the past he left behind is over. But, Shang-Chi's past manages to find his life in America.

Shang-Chi is the eldest son of Wenwu, the head of the Ten Rings crime organization. The Ten Rings possessed immense power. As a child, Shang-Chi thought of his father as a good and great person. Shang-Chi was educated very hard by Wenwu after his mother died. Shang-Chi practices martial arts to become a great fighter to become his heir. Wenwu wished Shang-Chi could be a bad person. However, Shang-Chi rebelled and turned against his father.

Interesting things in movies

I was very impressed with the visuals in this film. The cartoon characters in this film are very interesting. The figures of dragons, monsters, and other strange animals feel very alive. Likewise with some battles that use animation, the animation used is very beautiful. I feel this film is very luxurious using beautiful animation.

In addition to interesting animation, Katy's role in this film is also very entertaining. His funny figure made the audience laugh. Katy's jokes can ease the tension a bit. I felt like I was on a roller coaster while watching this film, sometimes tense, sometimes relaxed. In this film there are Awkwafina and Ben Kingsley who play a very important role. The second part of the story is perfect for entertaining the audience.

In this film, the conflict shown is very clear. Even so, the antagonist character in this film is not too much watched. Shang-Chi's confrontation is very interesting. Shang-Chi is faced with two choices, fight his evil father or follow his father's evil.

Lessons to be learned in this film

From this film I learned a lot. The first thing, if evil intentions will lead to bad. This can be seen from Shang-Chi's father's intention to make Shang-Chi an evil person. But his hopes also failed and caused a bigger problem. Have you ever thought that if your intentions were not sincere it would end badly? It happens to me sometimes. The second thing is to treat girls very badly. In this film it is clear that Wenwu treats Xu Xialing (Shang-Chi's younger sister) very badly. Xu Xialing was not treated like Shang-Chi. Xu Xialing was not taught martial arts like her father taught Shang-Chi.

In fact, both have the same potential. This situation is still happening in our lives. In the past, my parents thought that only boys had higher education degrees. Because, my parents think like that, my parents think a son can help his sister's life. but, in fact not. This situation is still felt in Indonesian culture. girls are always number 2. As if women do not deserve to develop. This shows that the patriarchal culture is still high. If girls are left stupid, then the future of life will be ruined. I believe up to this point, so I think if women should be smart.

Criticism for this film

During the screening, I really enjoyed this film. This film is visually appealing. However, there are some things that I think can be changed in this film. In every Marvel movie, the superhero is a boy. Just like the involvement of Asians in Marvel films, the composition is minimal. So are female superheroes, very few. Shang-Chi is an interesting superhero in this film. The quality of the main character's acting quality is not in doubt. However, it would be more interesting if Shang-Chi as the main character in this film was played by a woman. The resulting conflict will be more interesting.

The heir to the throne will be given to the first son. This is normal and happens often. In many cultures, the throne or power will be passed to the first son. Because it is considered as the next generation. for feminist groups, the first boy has the privilege. There are many conveniences that can be made as a boy. Few people give the throne or power to the first daughter. If only Shang-Chi was played by a girl, maybe the problem would say otherwise.

In some scenes, Shang-Chi's father looks proud to have a son. His mother gave him strength for Shang-Chi. But, why the knowledge was not given to her daughter? By placing the main female character will be very interesting in this film. In fact, it can strengthen the feminist analysis in this film. As well as the conflict that is present, it is very interesting in this film.
