Hola de nuevo! Hoy les traigo un post súper chévere en el cual les hablaré sobre una delas caricaturas que más amé en mi infancia, Recreo. Hace unos meses había hablado sobre las comiquitas que marcaron mi infancia y estoy segura que me faltaron muchas porque la verdad me la pasaba pegada en la televisión cuando era niña, y bueno, la verdad una de las primeras imágenes que se me vino a la cabeza fue esta serie animada. Amaba muchísimo esta caricatura y no me la perdía por nada del mundo cuando regresaba del colegio, sin embargo me puse a ver varios episodio hace poco y la verdad esa serie jamás envejeció, por lo que estoy muy emocionada de hablar sobre esta comiquita, comencemos!
Hello again! Today I come with a super cool post in which I will talk about one of the cartoons that I loved the most in my childhood, Recess. A few months ago I talked about the cartoons that marked my childhood and I'm sure I missed many because the truth is that I was glued to the TV when I was a kid, and well, one of the first images that came to my mind was this animated series. I loved this cartoon very much and I wouldn't miss it for anything in the world when I came back from school, however I started to watch several episodes recently and the truth is that this series never got old, so I'm very excited to talk about this cartoon, let's go!
Esta serie estadounidense capaz la conozcan muchos, ya que es una de las caricaturas más exitosas de la cadena Disney Channel. Fue estrenada a finales de los años 90s, sus creadores son Paul Germain y Joe Ansolabehere, los cuales crearon esta serie principalmente para concientizar sobre el acoso escolar. Esta aclamada caricatura contó con 65 episodios divididos en 6 temporadas, cada episodio tiene dos segmentos contando diferentes historias que le ocurren a los personajes en el patio de recreo. Gracias al éxito de la serie se crearon películas y especiales que tuvieron un éxito relativo entre sí, sin embargo guarda la misma esencia de la serie original.
Many of you may know this American series, since it is one of the most successful cartoons of the Disney Channel. It was premiered in the late 90s, its creators are Paul Germain and Joe Ansolabehere, who created this series mainly to raise awareness about bullying. This acclaimed cartoon had 65 episodes divided into 6 seasons, each episode has two segments telling different stories that happen to the characters on the playground. Thanks to the success of the series, movies and specials were created that were relatively successful, but kept the same essence of the original series.
La historia de recreo es muy simple, trata sobre un grupo de amigos que cursan el cuarto grado de primaria, este grupo está conformado por T.J. Detweiler, Vince, Spinelli, Gretchen, Gus y Mikey, los cuales tienen diferentes vivencias en el patio de recreo. Para ponernos en perspectiva, en el patio de recreo conocemos a gran variedad de grupos que participan en los hechos ocurridos en el patio, hay populares, hay un rey del patio, un chismoso que siempre le dice a los profesores lo que hacen los alumnos, un vendedor dejuguetes, cartas o dulces, y así. Cada vivencia ocurrida es apartada de la anterior, sin embargo sigue una secuencia lineal a lo largo de la historia aunque se pueden ver los episodios separados y aún así no te sentirás perdido. Cada capítulo narra alguna problemática en la cual alguien de la pandilla arma el plan y los demás lo siguen siendo liderados generalmente por T.J, sin embargo cada uno tiene una perspectiva e independencia de como afrontar las situaciones y aprenden de ello, teniendo una moraleja al final de cada episodio.
The playground story is very simple, it is about a group of friends in fourth grade, this group is made up of T.J. Detweiler, Vince, Spinelli, Gretchen, Gus and Mikey, who have different experiences in the playground. To put it in perspective, on the playground we meet a variety of groups that participate in the playground events, there are popular, there is a king of the playground, a gossip who always tells the teachers what the students are doing, a toy, card or candy seller, and so on. Each experience that occurs is separated from the previous one, however it follows a linear sequence throughout the story although you can see the separate episodes and still you will not feel lost. Each chapter narrates some problematic in which someone of the gang puts together the plan and the others follow being led generally by T.J., however each one has a perspective and independence of how to face the situations and learn from it, having a moral at the end of each episode.
Esta parte me encanta porque Recreo tiene una amplia gama de personajes, comenzando por la pandilla conformada por Theodore Jasper "T.J." Detweiler, con un gran talento para ser líder y muy creativo a la hora de armar planes. Ashley Funicello Spinelli, una chica muy ruda, con capacidad muy alta en las artes marciales y sin miedo a demostrar lo que piensa. Gretchen Prunella Grundler es la niña genio del grupo, tiene una gran capacidad para hacer grandes inventos. Michael "Mikey" Blumberg, un chico bastante grande que a simple vista atemoriza, pero realmente es una persona sumamente tierna y amable. Por último pero no menos importante tenemos a Gustav Patton "Gus" Griswald, un chico tímido que viene de una familia militar, pero que quiere ser más libre. Este grupo de amigos siempre está metido en situaciones peculiares en el patio de recreo, cada uno tiene un desarrollo individual y a la vez se van complementando aún más como equipo siendo más unidos a medida que avanzan los capítulos. Estos personajes se van desarrollando en conjunto a otros alumnos que conforman la escuela.
I love this part because Recess has a wide range of characters, starting with the gang made up of Theodore Jasper "T.J." Detweiler, with a great talent for being a leader and very creative when it comes to putting plans together. Ashley Funicello Spinelli, a very tough girl with very high martial arts skills and not afraid to speak her mind. Gretchen Prunella Grundler is the child genius of the group, she has a great ability to make great inventions. Michael "Mikey" Blumberg, a rather large boy who at first glance is frightening, but is actually an extremely tender and kind person. Last but not least we have Gustav Patton "Gus" Griswald, a shy boy who comes from a military family, but wants to be more free. This group of friends is always getting into peculiar situations on the playground, each one has an individual development and at the same time they complement each other even more as a team being more united as the chapters go on. These characters develop together with the other students that make up the school.
En cuanto al resto de niños tenemos a Randall Weems, el más odiado de la escuela por siempre decirle a los profesores lo que hacen los demás alumnos. El cuarteto de Las Ashleys, conformado por Ashley Armbruster, Ashley Quinlan, Ashley Boulet y Ashley Tomassian, las cuales son consideradas comos las chicas más populares de la escuela, siempre a la moda y dueñas de la icónica frase "¡qué escándalo!". Bob, un chico de sexto grado considerado por todos como el rey del patio de recreo, el cual pone orden vigilando que se cumplan las normas. Menlo, un chico sumamente organizado encargado de organizar archivos en la escuela. Los excavadores, unos gemelos que se dedican a excavar en el patio de recreo. Gelman, el chico matón de la escuela. La niña voladora, una chica que se la pasa en el columpio en el recreo y siempre carga unos lentes de aviador. También está La gimnasta, una chica que se la pasa de cabeza en una baranda. Por último quiero nombrar a los kinergardianos, unos niños de kinder que se comportan de manera salvaje, causando terror en el patio de recreo cuando salen. Hay muchos otros niños que acompañan a la pandilla en sus aventuras y a veces son de gran relevancia en el desarrollo de los episodios dependiendo de los planes que tengan los protagonistas.
As for the rest of the children, we have Randall Weems, the most hated of the school for always telling the teachers what the other students are doing. The quartet of The Ashleys, made up of Ashley Armbruster, Ashley Quinlan, Ashley Boulet and Ashley Tomassian, who are considered the most popular girls in school, always in fashion and owners of the iconic phrase "what a scandal! **Bob, a sixth-grader considered by all to be the king of the playground, who brings order by enforcing the rules. Menlo, a highly organized boy in charge of organizing files at school. The Diggers, twins who are dedicated to digging in the playground. Gelman, the school bully. The Flying Girl, a girl who hangs out on the swing set at recess and always carries a pair of aviator glasses. There's also The Gymnast, a girl who hangs upside down on a rail. Lastly I want to name the kindergardians, kindergarteners who behave wildly, causing terror on the playground when they go outside. There are many other children who accompany the gang in their adventures and sometimes are of great relevance in the development of the episodes depending on the plans that the protagonists have.
Por último hay que mencionar a los profesores de la escuela, la que más destaca es la maestra Muriel P. Finster, la cual se encarga de mantener un estricto orden en la escuela y castiga a los que no obedecen las normas, aunque parezca amargada tiene un lado sensible, además de ser una mujer luchadora. Luego tenemos al director Peter Prickly, una persona bastante malhumorada que a pesar de todo, era algo desastroso en sus épocas de estudiante. Por último tenemos a mi maestra favorita, la señorita Alordayne Grotkey, una mujer de espíritu libre la cual se dedica a enseñarle buenos valores a sus estudiantes además de sus materias, es sumamente dulce y pacifista lo cual hace que se gane el gran cariño de sus alumnos. Los adultos en esta serie a veces parecen los principales villanos ya que en varias ocasiones parecen que quieren que los niños no disfruten, sin embargo se preocupan por el bienestar de los mismos y que crezcan siendo jóvenes de bien.
Finally we have to mention the teachers of the school, the one who stands out the most is the teacher Muriel P. Finster, who is in charge of maintaining a strict order in the school and punishes those who do not obey the rules, although she seems bitter she has a sensitive side, besides being a fighting woman. Then we have the principal Peter Prickly, a rather grumpy person who in spite of everything, was somewhat disastrous in his student days. Lastly we have my favorite teacher, Miss Alordayne Grotkey, a free spirited woman who is dedicated to teaching her students good values in addition to her subjects, she is extremely sweet and pacifist which endears her to her students. The adults in this series sometimes seem to be the main villains as they seem to want the children not to enjoy themselves, but they are concerned for their well being and that they grow up to be positive young people.
La animación viene de la mano de Walt Disney Television Animation, dando la esencia de esa misma época a finales de los 90s con formato cuadrado, sin embargo al día de hoy se pueden conseguir los episodios de la caricatura en distintos formatos. La ambientación es mayormente en el patio de recreo, aunque a veces puede variar con escenarios como el comedor, el salón de clases o muy pocas veces el pasillo de la escuela, siempre manteniendo los colores cálidos y felices que caracterizan la serie. En cuanto a la banda sonora contamos con una canción de introducción de índole marcial, dándonos a entender que se quiere pretender un orden en el patio de recreo,pero la animación expresa como se puede alterar un poco el orden del mismo. La ambientación musical es completamente instrumental, siendo la variación del tema principal en distintas modalidades. Es muy fácil reconocer esta serie tan solo mostrando el patio de recreo y su característica canción, dándole su propia identidad.
The animation comes from the hand of Walt Disney Television Animation, giving the essence of that same era in the late 90s with square format, however today you can get the episodes of the cartoon in different formats. The setting is mostly in the playground, although sometimes it may vary with scenarios such as the dining room, the classroom or very rarely the school hallway, always maintaining the warm and happy colors that characterize the series. As for the soundtrack we have a martial introductory song, giving us to understand that they want to pretend an order in the playground, but the animation expresses how the order of it can be altered a little. The musical setting is completely instrumental, being the variation of the main theme in different modes. It is very easy to recognize this series just by showing the playground and its characteristic song, giving it its own identity.
Recreo fue muy exitosa entre los jóvenes desde 1997 hasta su última emisión en 2001, y aún así siguieron emitiéndose capítulos en Disney Channel por muchos años más, además de producir varias películas y especiales. Esta caricatura marcó mucho a la juventud, de hecho es muy interesante volver a ver algunos episodios siendo adulto porque notamos muchísimos aprendizajes más profundos que no notamos de niños, pero que aún así los interiorizamos en ese entonces. Considero que esta serie fue muy adelantada a su época ya que abordaba temas importantes, uno de ellos es el acoso escolar el cual era un tema del que no parecía tomarse mucha importancia, sin embargo los creadores quisieron enfatizar en el valor del trabajo en equipo a pesar de las diferencias. La grandes moralejas que dejan cada episodio y el punto de vista de los niños y adultos en el final de cada uno de los mismos me parece muy genial. Definitivamente considero a Recreo como una de las mejores series animadas que pudo darnos Disney y que vale la pena ver independientemente de la edad que tengas, personalmente me marcó mucho y me hacía muy feliz ver cada episodio que transmitían en Disney, y todavía la veo y me trae esa sensación de nostalgia.
Recreo was very successful among young people from 1997 until its last broadcast in 2001, and even so, episodes continued to be transmitted on Disney Channel for many more years, besides producing several movies and specials. This cartoon had a great impact on young people, in fact it is very interesting to watch some episodes again as an adult because we noticed many deeper lessons that we did not notice as children, but we still internalized them back then. I consider that this series was very ahead of its time because it addressed important issues, one of them is bullying which was a topic that did not seem to be given much importance, however the creators wanted to emphasize the value of teamwork despite the differences. The great moral of each episode and the point of view of the children and adults at the end of each episode is very cool. I definitely consider Recess as one of the best animated series that Disney could give us and that is worth watching regardless of the age you are, personally it marked me a lot and made me very happy to watch every episode that was broadcasted on Disney, and I still watch it and it brings me that feeling of nostalgia.
