Today in my blog, I want to talk to you guys about the brand new film in the DC universe - Black Adam. One of the most highly anticipated films of the year - Black Adam has been released. I have a lot to say about this one in particular because I thought this was such an average mediocre movie.

Black Adam Movie Review:

Going into this film, I had pretty low expectations for this movie. Just because everything about this movie felt like it was going to be an extremely mediocre and common origin narrative. Additionally, the DC Universe has been in a mess ever since Justice League was released in 2017, which has ruined the entire franchise. This franchise really doesn't sure what it wants to be and is trying so hard to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even the 2016 Suicide Squad was a big disappointment.
This movie is exactly what I anticipated it to be after watching it last night. A really mediocre superhero film that does everything that you would come to expect.
Positive Aspects of Black Adam Movie:
Let's just dive right into the positives first. I do want to start with the performances here.

I really enjoyed Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. I think he did a really good job embodying what this character needs to be for this universe. I think he really was the best choice to play the character. I also really enjoyed Pierce Brosnan and Aldous Hodge playing Dr. Fate and Hawkman respectively. I thought that they were really good in this movie. I thought they were great casting choices as well they also got a lot of screen time in this movie and gave a lot to do which to my surprise. I didn't think would actually happen because I thought it was gonna be more about Black Adam. I need to see more Hawkman because he was awesome. I think this movie does a pretty decent job of the ash sequences as they are very electric, and fun. and there are so many in this movie.
If you want just an action-packed popcorn movie featuring superheroes and supervillains then you are going to get that in this movie. The Black Adam movie is pretty much an entertaining, non-stop thrill ride of action. There is some pretty frightening and nasty imagery in this movie. Especially with some of the kills here really pushing the limits and I gotta admit it was pretty cool.
For the most part, this movie moves really fast and there really isn't a whole lot of filler to the movie which made it so much more interesting and fun and just added so much energy to this movie. There is so much action that is going on. They are just so emerged into the film that I really can't complain about it.
Negative Aspects of Black Adam Movie:
Unfortunately, this movie does have quite a bit of negative. I should probably start with the action scenes because they were my favorite part of the film. The slow-motion views in this film are also the most annoying ones. I have seen them in a while because they are used so frequently that I simply wanted to come to an end.
Additionally, I thought the directing and editing in this film ranged from being very average to just straight-up terrible. Particularly in many of the situations with a lot of speech, where characters are speaking to one another from four separate perspectives in a single scene. Since the directing and editing restrict these performers from showcasing their talents, it is incredibly annoying to watch the numerous unnecessary cuts in this film.
One of the worst screenplays I have seen this year, the writing is terrible. This origin story simply accomplishes nothing to stand out from the pack of clichés and tropes we have seen a hundred times before. It was embarrassingly terrible. It features the well-worn fish-out-of-water plot that we have all seen a thousand times before, but it fails to engage me in any way. Aside from Dwayne Johnson's portrayal, I don't think the movie does a very good job of making Black Adam a fascinating character. This film, in my opinion, tries to trick you into anticipating these great action sequences, but because of the weak storyline, none of it feels deserved. Just focuses on action instead of the actual characters.
The usage of music in this film, which I thought was incredibly bad, especially when it was done in the most cringe-worthy and clichéd way possible using Kanye West's song Power, is the last issue I have with it. This occurs during a significant action scene, which the film initially feels is incredibly exciting and edgy like 'The Suicide Squad' before turning very somber. Other than the little seconds he uses, there isn't really any more music used. It was incredibly inconsistent and seemed to come out of nowhere.
Conclusion:
Overall, Black Adam is a very mediocre average superhero movie that ticks off all the boxes you expect for an origin story that does have some pretty good performances and some decent action.
However, the Black Adam movie really falls apart with the screenplay and direction. I'm giving Black Adam a 6.5 out of 10.
