Group of delinquents who had enough of this society decided to start a new life in the abandoned ghost village. Upon arriving they've found the village in livable condition but haunted by something mysterious. Terrified settlers, having difficulties to leave, turn on each other as their paranoia grows...
When the show gets there, you probably expect yet another boring horror slasher that can't escape the cliché of monster killing people one by one. And that's where the story gets interesting because it is not what it appears to be.
It is actually a psychological drama of people facing their inner trauma and overcoming it. Supernatural being haunting the village have ability to materialise worst traumatising experience from the memory of its victims. One girl is unaffected because she bears no trauma. One guy grieves over death of a family member and he is grateful for opportunity to see her again.
"This place makes our painful pasts become visible monsters."
All other settlers have something they would rather forget (which brought them to the village in the first place) and they are forced to face their fears when they leave the boundary of the village. Most settlers achieve reconciliation with their traumas, no longer feeling that they have to run away, so they return back to society. Others chose to remain in the village, not being able confront their inner scars.
The show is not perfect but it deserves credit for originality of the story and adorable "Unlucky Hippopotamus" song... There are some emotionally intense moments but no gore and nobody dies. Some individual stories are interesting enough. Not bad, although nothing great either.
