Hola, querido hiver.
Por estas fechas suelo decir que mi espíritu navideño es similar al del Grinch pero de él solo sabía por lo que representa como personaje de la cultura pop, ya que no había visto ninguna de las versiones cinematográficas del cuento original del Dr. Seuss. Hace unos días le puse remedio y en esta reseña te cuento mis impresiones sobre la película del año 2000, dirigida por Ron Howard y protagonizada por Jim Carrey.
La acción transcurre en Villa Quién, un pueblo en el que sus habitantes celebran la Navidad con gran ilusión. En lo alto de una de las montañas que lo rodean vive el Grinch, una especie de ogro verde al que todos temen, con su perro Max como única compañía.
El atrevimiento de unos jóvenes de Villa Quién provoca que el Grinch baje al pueblo en busca de fastidiar las festividades a los lugareños. En esa excursión improvisada tiene un encuentro con Cindy Lu, una niña adorable que piensa que se está perdiendo el sentido de la Navidad por su carácter consumista y se muestra preocupada por ello.
Cindy Lu cree que el Grinch en realidad es bueno, que su odio a la Navidad tiene algún motivo profundo que desconocen y hace lo posible por cambiarlo.
La película me pareció divertida y entretenida de principio a fin. Tenía algunas reservas porque el actor Jim Carrey estaba por entonces bastante encasillado tras su triunfo en La máscara, pero salvo alguna mueca está irreconocible físicamente.
Esto nos lleva a la magnífica ambientación. Los decorados son una fantasía para los adictos a la Navidad, nos les falta detalle. Y en cuanto a la caracterización de los personajes el trabajo de maquillaje es impresionante. Puedo imaginar las horas de preparación de cada uno de los actores.
Durante todo el film pasamos por diversas emociones, transmite el típico mensaje navideño sin caer en la edulcoración excesiva, algo de lo que huyo y que, sinceramente, esperaba. Así que puedo recomendarte que la veas como plan familiar, con amigos, o en soledad. Sea como sea es una película que se disfruta y deja con un buen sabor de boca.

At this time of year I often say that my Christmas spirit is similar to that of the Grinch, but I only knew about him for what he represents as a pop culture character, as I hadn't seen any of the film versions of the original Dr. Seuss tale. A few days ago I remedied that and in this review I tell you my impressions of the 2000 film, directed by Ron Howard and starring Jim Carrey.
The action takes place in Villa Who, a village where the inhabitants celebrate Christmas with great enthusiasm. At the top of one of the surrounding mountains lives the Grinch, a kind of green ogre that everyone fears, with his dog Max as his only companion.
The daring of some young people from Villa Who causes the Grinch to come down to the village in order to spoil the festivities for the villagers. On this impromptu excursion he has an encounter with Cindy Lu, an adorable little girl who thinks that the meaning of Christmas is being lost because of its consumerist nature and is worried about it.
Cindy Lu believes that the Grinch is actually good, that his hatred of Christmas has some deep, unknown reason and she does her best to change it.
I found the film funny and entertaining from start to finish. I had some reservations because the actor Jim Carrey was by then pretty typecast after his triumph in The Mask, but except for the odd grimace he is unrecognisable physically.
This brings us to the magnificent setting. The sets are a fantasy for Christmas junkies, with no shortage of detail. And as for the characterisation of the characters, the make-up work is impressive. I can imagine the hours of preparation of each of the actors.
During the whole film we go through different emotions, it transmits the typical Christmas message without falling into the excessive sweetening, something that I run away from and that, honestly, I was expecting. So I can recommend you to watch it as a family plan, with friends, or alone. Either way, it is a film that is enjoyable and leaves you with a good taste in your mouth.
