Hola, querido hiver.
Esta película me perseguía en las sugerencias de Amazon Prime Video cuando estaba suscrita. Al parecer su algoritmo conoce bien mis gustos. Mi único reparo para verla era su duración, pues no es fácil encontrarme con el suficiente nivel de energía como para mantener la atención durante tres horas seguidas. Puede ser una manía personal, pero me gusta ver las películas del tirón, sin interrupciones. Si me veo obligada a pararlas me cuesta volver a sumergirme en las tramas. En este caso al estar clasificada dentro del género de comedia me animé a dedicarle una tarde. La compañía de Leonardo DiCaprio siempre es un buen plan, jeje.
El lobo de Wall Street está basada en la historia real de un corredor de bolsa de Nueva York llamado Jordan Belfort (interpretado por Leonardo DiCaprio), que gracias a su ambición desmedida logró hacerse con una gran fortuna. El hecho de no conformarse nunca con lo obtenido y de querer cada vez más provoca que Jordan y su equipo de colaboradores recurran a lo que haga falta para conseguirlo: engaños, corrupción, abuso de poder.
Cuando ves el trailer parece que sea un desfile continuo de juergas desmedidas, consumo de alcohol y drogas y sexo sin control. De eso hay, bastante, aunque no es el centro de la película. También hay mucho humor negro y cinismo, presentándonos una realidad que todos podemos intuir pero que permanece oculta y nos atrae por ser inalcanzable para la mayoría de mortales.
Al principio el personaje principal es un hombre sencillo que persigue cumplir su sueño americano manteniendo sus valores. Lo que llamaríamos una buena persona. Sin embargo, en cuanto comienza a tener éxito y a ganar grandes cantidades de dinero se transforma como si le dieras la vuelta a un calcetín. Es entonces ese lobo codicioso, mujeriego, soberbio y despreciable que no sabe parar hasta que sus excesos le hacen caer hasta el fondo.
La interpretación de DiCaprio directamente me maravilló. Mereció el Óscar, igual que Jonah Hill en su trabajo como secundario. Pero como pasa tantas veces, coincidir en el tiempo con otras buenas películas les impidió cosechar los numerosos premios a los que estuvo nominada la cinta.
Al final las tres horas se me pasaron volando. Quizás el exceso que desfila por la pantalla obnubile los sentidos. La historia es cruda, sin trasfondo, real. Un buen retrato de las bajezas del ser humano.
Como conclusión recomiendo verla. Es entretenida, ríes, lloras y cuando la terminas te queda la sensación de haber aprendido una buena lección de todo lo anterior pero sin que nadie te la imponga. También da para reflexionar si estando en la posición del protagonista hubiéramos hecho lo mismo. ¿Habrías resistido al poder?

Hi, dear hiver.
This film kept following me in Amazon Prime Video's suggestions when I was subscribed. Apparently their algorithm knows my tastes well. My only qualm about watching it was its length, as it's not easy to find myself with enough energy level to keep my attention for three hours straight. It may be a personal quirk, but I like to watch films all at once, without interruptions. If I'm forced to stop, I find it hard to dive back into the plot. In this case, as it is classified within the comedy genre, I decided to dedicate an afternoon to it. The company of Leonardo DiCaprio is always a good plan, hehe.
The Wolf of Wall Street is based on the true story of a New York stockbroker named Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), who, thanks to his unbridled ambition, managed to make a great fortune. Never being satisfied with what he has obtained and wanting more and more, Jordan and his team of collaborators resort to whatever it takes to get it: deceit, corruption, abuse of power.
When you watch the trailer, it seems to be a continuous parade of excessive partying, alcohol and drug consumption and unrestrained sex. There is plenty of that, although it is not the focus of the film. There is also a lot of black humour and cynicism, presenting us with a reality that we can all sense but which remains hidden and attracts us because it is unattainable for most mortals.
At the beginning, the main character is a simple man who pursues his American dream while maintaining his values. What we would call a good person. However, as soon as he starts to become successful and earn large amounts of money, he transforms as if you turned a sock inside out. He is then this greedy, womanising, arrogant, despicable wolf who doesn't know how to stop until his excesses bring him to the bottom.
DiCaprio's performance astounded me. He deserved the Oscar, as did Jonah Hill in his supporting role. But as so often happens, coinciding in time with other good films prevented them from reaping the numerous awards for which the film was nominated.
In the end the three hours flew by. Perhaps the excess on the screen dulls the senses. The story is raw, without background, real. A good portrait of the baseness of human beings.
In conclusion, I recommend watching it. It is entertaining, you laugh, you cry and when you finish it you are left with the sensation of having learned a good lesson from all of the above but without anyone imposing it on you. It also gives you food for thought if you were in the protagonist's position, would you have resisted power?
