Hola querido hiver.
Esta publicación es mi participación en el concurso organizado por @wiseagent para dar difusión al proyecto Scrobble.life. Estoy activa en él desde que lo conocí. Me gusta registrar los libros que leo, las películas y series que veo, y aunque no lo aplicaba a la música que escucho, ahora gracias a este proyecto también sé lo que pasa por mis oídos mientras estoy en mi ordenador. Así que te invito a que lo explores y te animo a que busques en tus recuerdos aquella película que más te ha impactado o que no puedes dejar de repetir en tu pantalla o en tu imaginación. Drácula, mi obsesión de juventud
El estreno de la versión de Drácula que rodó Francis Ford Coppola coincidió con el inicio de mi adolescencia. Era el momento en el que empezaba a ver a los chicos de un modo diferente, ya me entiendes... y en medio de esa tormenta de hormonas se cruzó aquella frase que se quedó grabada a fuego en mi cerebro:
He cruzado océanos de tiempo para encontrarte.
¿Puede haber una declaración de amor más romántica?
Sin embargo, es cierto que no todo en el film es bonito y amoroso. También se sumó a mi obsesión por Drácula la extraña fascinación que nos provoca el miedo a lo desconocido, la lucha entre el bien y del mal, la poderosa fuerza de la amistad y el ambiente mágico y tenebroso en el que se desarrollaba la acción de la película.
Hablando de amistad, recuerdo que fui a ver Drácula al cine acompañada de mis amigas. Salimos todas encantadas, pero ninguna de ellas se obsesionó como lo hice yo. En cuanto pude me hice con un ejemplar barato de la novela de Bram Stoker, que todavía conservo. Lo leí varias veces seguidas. Cuando salió la película en vídeo, ya te imaginarás, compré el VHS y lo visioné una y otra vez hasta que terminó rayado.
¿Y qué me dices de la banda sonora? Por entonces la comunidad de vecinos en la que vivía contrató la televisión por cable y la MTV se convirtió en mi canal favorito. Pasé de grabar cintas de cassette con canciones de la radio a videos musicales en VHS. Y, por supuesto, hacía del Love song for a vampire de Annie Lennox una fiesta cada vez que la emitían. También me las ingenié para conseguir la BSO completa.
Desde entonces ninguna historia de las que he leído o visionado me ha impactado tanto como esta. La película de Coppola tiene todos los ingredientes para convertirla en un film cuasiperfecto: apela a nuestras emociones y deseos más oscuros y más bellos al mismo tiempo, combinándolo con una estética y con un dominio del ritmo que el director no necesita demostrar.

Hi, dear hiver.
This post is my entry in the competition organised by @wiseagent to raise awareness of the Scrobble.life project. I’ve been actively using it ever since I discovered it. I like to keep track of the books I read and the films and TV series I watch, and although I didn’t used to do this for the music I listen to, now, thanks to this project, I also know what’s playing in my ears whilst I’m on my computer. So I invite you to explore it and encourage you to search your memories for that film which has had the greatest impact on you or which you just can’t stop replaying on your screen or in your imagination. Dracula, my teenage obsession
The release of Francis Ford Coppola’s version of Dracula coincided with the start of my teenage years. It was the time when I was starting to see boys in a different light, if you know what I mean… and in the midst of that storm of hormones, I came across that line which was seared into my brain:
I crossed oceans of time to find you.
Could there be a more romantic declaration of love?
However, it is true that not everything in the film is beautiful and romantic. My obsession with Dracula was also fuelled by the strange fascination we feel for the fear of the unknown, the struggle between good and evil, the powerful force of friendship, and the magical yet eerie atmosphere in which the film’s plot unfolded.
Speaking of friendship, I remember going to see Dracula at the cinema with my friends. We all came out absolutely enchanted, but none of them became as obsessed as I did. As soon as I could, I got hold of a cheap copy of Bram Stoker’s novel, which I still have. I read it several times in a row. When the film came out on video, as you can imagine, I bought the VHS and watched it over and over again until it was scratched.
And what about the soundtrack? Around that time, the residents’ association where I lived signed up for cable TV, and MTV became my favourite channel. I went from recording cassette tapes with songs from the radio to VHS music videos. And, of course, I’d throw a party every time Annie Lennox’s Love Song for a Vampire came on. I also managed to get hold of the complete soundtrack.
Since then, no story I’ve read or watched has had such an impact on me as this one. Coppola’s film has all the ingredients to make it a near-perfect film: it appeals to our darkest and most beautiful emotions and desires at the same time, combining this with an aesthetic and a command of pacing that the director needn’t prove.
