Recently I watched Daria, I used to watch it when it first aired back in the 90's and I have to say that I still enjoy it nowadays.
Recientemente vi Daria, solía verla cuando comenzó a salir al aire en los 90's y debo decir que aun lo disfruto a la fecha.
Daria first appeared in Beavis and Butthead, another MTV show. There she was a smart girl who appeared in a few episodes, she wasn't even a main character.
In 1997 she had her own series and it was different than what Beavis and Butthead were.
It was created because MTV producers wanted something for young female audiences, they changed her original design to make it more stylized, also her personality had some few changes, she remained the smart girl but they made her also an introvert who isn't good at making friends but doesn't get depressed by that, she knows she doesn't fit with her classmates and is fine with that. She always says what she thinks in a mix of sarcasm and harsh truth.
Daria apareció por primera vez en Beavis y Butthead, otro programa de MTV. Era una chica lista que solo apareció en pocos episodios, ni siquiera era un personaje principal.
En 1997 tuvo su propia serie y era diferente a lo que fue Beavis y Butthead.
Fue creada porque los productores de MTV querían algo para audiencias femeninas jóvenes, cambiaron su diseño original para hacerla más estilizada, también su personalidad tuvo unos cambios, continuó siendo la chica lista pero la hicieron una introvertida que no es buena haciendo amigos pero no se deprime por ello, sabe que no encaja con sus compañeros y está bien con eso. Siempre dice lo que piensa en una mezcla de sarcasmo y cruda verdad.

Daria is the older daughter of Jake and Helen Morgendorffer, has a younger sister called Quinn who opposite to Daria is the popular pretty girl and always denies knowing Daria, she always refers to her as a cousin or someone who is just staying at her house but never calls her sister.
Jake, the father, has inferiority complexes and is traumatized by bad experiences he had in military school, and with his father, so he always makes an effort to be the father he wishes he had, he loves and supports his daughters although most of the time he isn't aware of what's happening with them.
The mother, Helen, is a workaholic, she cares about her family but her career is more important for her, she isn't bad with her family, she wants to help them when they need but as soon as her phone rings she puts everything on hold to take the work calls.
On her first day at high school, Daria meets Jane Lane on a special class to work on self esteem which Daria was sent to because of her uncommon answers in a psychometric test; they became friends that same day because just like Daria, Jane doesn't fit either, she's an artist who doesn't care what others think of her, she admits she has taken the self esteem class several times just because according to her words "I like having low self esteem, it makes me feel special," although after meeting Daria both decide to take the test to which Jane already knows all the answers and graduate from self esteem class just to have free time.
Daria es la hija mayor de Jake y Helen Morgendorffer, tiene una hermana menor llamada Quinn quien opuesta a Daria es la chica linda y popular y siempre niega conocer a Daria, siempre se refiera a ella como una prima o alguien que se queda en su casa pero nunca la llama hermana.
Jake, el padre, tiene complejos de inferioridad y está traumatizado por malas experiencias vividas en la escuela militar y con su padre, así que siempre hace un esfuerzo para ser el padre que desea haber tenido, ama y apoya a sus hijas aunque la mayor parte del tiempo no está enterado de lo que ocurre con ellas.
La madre, Helen, es adicta al trabajo, se preocupa por su familia pero su carrera le es más importante, no es mala con su familia, siempre quiere ayudarles cuando necesitan pero tan pronto suena su teléfono pone todo en espera para tomar las llamadas del trabajo.
En su primer día en preparatoria, Daria conoce a Jane Lane en una clase especial para trabajar en la autoestima a la cual Daria es enviada por sus respuestas poco comunes en un examen psicométrico; se hacen amigas ese mismo día porque al igual que Daria, Jane no encaja tampoco, es una artista que no le interesa lo que otros piensen de ella, admite tomar las clases de auto estima varias veces porque según sus palabras "Me gusta tener baja autoestima, me hace sentir especial," aunque luego de conocer a Daria ambas deciden tomar el examen para el cual Jane conoce todas las respuestas y graduarse de la clase de autoestima solo para tener tiempo libre.
Through the series they show different aspects of growing up, they deal with different topics, some more serious than others, such as eating disorder, dysfunctional families, divorces, first jobs, bullying, childhood traumas, toxic relationships... endless topics that were issues back then and are still topics worth of discussion now and the show delivered those topics with satire and sarcasm making problems seem as something manageable in spite of how overwhelmed you may feel.
Daria's vision of the world might had been seen harsh by her peers, but she didn't sugar coated reality, she wasn't afraid of speaking her mind.
It's a show worth watching, in my opinion it has aged well, it's not offensive in spite of being flooded with stereotypical students, through the episodes all characters are well developed and you get to know why they are the way they are and it's impossible not to feel identified with different characters according to your own experiences.
A lo largo de la serie muestran diferentes aspectos de crecer, tratan con distintos temas, algunos más serios que otros, tales como desorden alimenticio, familias disfuncionales, divorcios, primeros empleos, bullying, traumas de infancia, relaciones tóxicas... infinidad de temas que eran problemas entonces y aun son temas dignos de discusión ahora y el show mostraba esos temas con sátira y sarcasmo haciendo lucir a los problemas como algo controlable a pesar de que tan abrumado te sientas.
La visión de Daria del mundo puede haber sido vista cruda por sus compañeros, pero ella no endulzaba la realidad, no tenía miedo de ser directa.
Es un programa que vale la pena ver, en mi opinión ha envejecido bien, no es ofensivo a pesar de estar inundado de estudiantes estereotipados, a través de los episodios todos los personajes son bien desarrollados y entiendes por qué son de la forma que son, es imposible no sentirse identificado con los diferentes personajes según tus propias experiencias.
There's also 2 movies, "Is it fall yet?" and "Is it College yet?" the latest being the end of the story where they all face changes as they graduate from high school and decide on their future, it's shown how each one of the characters has really grown as persons, they're not the same persons they used to be and it took them a whole learning journey to get there, and finally Daria is optimistic about her future.
También hay 2 películas, "¿Ya es otoño?" y "Ya es tiempo de ir a la universidad?" la última siendo el final de la historia donde todos enfrentan cambios al graduarse de la preparatoria y deciden sobre su futuro, se muestra como cada personaje ha crecido realmente como persona, ya no son los mismos que solían ser y les tomó todo un viaje de aprendizaje llegar a ese punto, y finalmente Daria es optimista sobre su futuro.
It's filled with pop culture references and great songs from those times, although the soundtrack was different in the DVDs because paying for all copyright would had been really expensive.
The series was created by Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn and ran from March 3, 1997 to January 21, 2002 on MTV. And in 2013 a short movie trailer was released starring Aubrey Plaza as Daria.
Está llena de referencias de cultura pop y canciones geniales de esos tiempos, aunque el soundtrack fue diferente en los DVDs porque pagar por todos los derechos habría sido demasiado costoso.
La serie fue creada por Glenn Eichler y Susie Lewis Lynn, y estuvo al aire del 3 de Marzo de 1997 al 21 de Enero del 2002 en MTV. Y en 2014 un trailer de película corta fue lanzado esteralizado por Aubrey Plaza como Daria.
