In the late 1960s, a highly publicized trial took place in Rome that caused quite a stir.

Playwright and poet Aldo Braibanti was sentenced to nine years in prison for an act of plagiarism, which was termed "brainwashing" because of his alleged manipulation of one of his 18-year-old students and friends, both physically and mentally.

In response to this incident, the young man was committed to a psychiatric hospital at the request of his family, where he endured a series of debilitating electric shocks intended to help him "recover" from the perceived diabolical influence.

Although plagiarism was eventually removed from the criminal code, its impact extended far beyond the courtroom.

This charge was often used to attack people who deviated from social norms.

Inspired by real events, the film presents a multi-perspective narrative that delves into the lives of the accused, their families, friends, accusers, sympathizers and a largely apathetic public opinion.

Only one journalist undertakes to reconstruct the truth, facing suspicion and censorship.
