I just saw it and, although I enjoyed it, I would have liked Napoleon's character to be developed beyond his romance with Josephina.

I think a great opportunity was missed here to have a great actor like Phoenix in the lead role; but what was really worth it was seeing it in the cinema, perfect scenery and fight scenes, some of the best in the film, and very good.

The editing is obvious, especially in the first hour, so I'll still watch the 4 hour version.

If you look at this film through the eyes of a fan, it's interesting because it's a film where director Ridley Scott and screenwriter David Scarpa took some historical license.

Vanessa Kirby's performance as Josephine de Beauharnais, empress consort and wife of Napoleon is also remarkable.

Although I have not seen the movie yet I liked your review because I too find Joaquin Phoenix a great actor and like you I also want to see the "long" version. Those who like historical movies, costume movies, are waiting for just such movies and such moments..... !COFFEE !LUV !PIZZA !PGM

Par the course for Ridley Scott. All of his historic movies play very fast and loose with the true historic facts. I see a lot of historians are already up in arms about Napoleon. Despite that, I still want to see it
