Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 Episode 7: 'Welcome to the Jungle' Review

It's Jungle Justice for the Legends

As they find themselves fighting a time-displaced meta-gorilla back in the Vietnamese war.

With Sara comatose after their run-in with Damian Darhk and his daughter last week, the team must go on attempting to correct anachronisms without her. The pick of the week, a level 8 anachronism selected by Jax, leads them to Vuetnam in 1967 --the height of the Vietnan war where apparently, a group of American soldiers have been attacked by an unknown entity in the jungle. The team splits up --Ray, Amaya and Zari go into the jungle to find the sole survivor of the attack, Mick and Nate go into the jungle itself to examine the scene, while the two halves of Firestorm, Professor Stein and Jax remain aboard the Waverider, working on successfully breaking their bond.

It doesn't take long for Ray, Amaya and Zari to find a colony of Americans and Vietnamese in the jungle, run by the cause of the anachronism --Gorilla Grodd, who is supposed to be imprisoned in an ARGUS high security vault in 2017. The people worship him as a god because he promises to put an end to the war, but his plan involves completely wiping out the World's superpowers US and Russia through a carefully engineered, nuclear fueled World War III. At the same time, Mick and Nate run into a squad of US soldiers near the scene of the massacre lead by the unlikeliest of persons, Mick's own father. They quickly pose as CIA officers running their own investigation and join the squad, and Nate finds out for the first time Mick's colorfully fiery past --he burned his family alive.

At the colony camp, Amaya tries to take down Grodd while Zari finds out that he intends to assassinate US president Johnson who just arrived in Vietnam. Then they are captured by Grodd himself and set for public execution. Luckily, Amaya uses her spirit totem to talk him down, just before he discovers they are time travellers and decides to use their ship to travel back and prevent the evolution of man in the first place. Mick, now allied with his father's squad attack the colony against Nate's warnings and rounds up the people, including the members of his team. However, when his father tries to kill them all in a fit of rage, he prevents him and saves both the men and the innocent civilians.

Meanwhile, with every other person preoccupied, Jax leaves the Waverider and hurries to save the president. Stein quickly takes the ship off the ground to keep away from Grodd, but it's too late --the Gorilla clings to the ship and uses the comatose Sara to attack him. Before she can do anything though, she is taken down by Sir Isaac Newton, who is one of a group of scientists Stein has picked up from various points in time to help with Firestorm's breaking up. Then he throws Grodd off the ship into raging fire below.

Unfortunately, Grodd is not consumed by the flames. While the legends celebrate theie correction of the anachronism and Sara's reawakening, Grodd reappears in 2017, pulled there by Damian Darhk in order to recruit him into Mallus' growing team of villains.
