Hey guys!
*So I just finished binging the first half of Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 2, which was dropped on Netflix last Thursday (not coincidentally the International Women's day). And, I have to say, I never saw this coming! After the awesomeness of the last season, I had feared this would be a flop, or a disappointment at most, but after a pretty slow start, it's got up to that point where you just can't stop watching.*
This season has the very same dark tone which made the last season so great for it's realness, amidst some good character growth. It's clear just how much her experiences in the last season and with the Defenders has changed Jessica, and how much more baggage she still carries. Trish and Malcolm have their own paths to walk down --Malcolm is a very different person from when we first met him and it's refreshing (and a little alarming) to see his good growth, especially with Alias Investigations. Jeri Hogarth also has an arc, and her own demons to face, and following her and speculating on her choices is almost as thrilling as watching Jessica power through on the investigation into her abilities and her past.
And for the first time in Marvel Netflix, Jessica Jones S2 made direct mentions and connections, not just to the movies, but to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I was shocked to hear Captain America mentioned by name for one, and in the very first episode, a lady says 'Lizards wearing human skin are taking over the government', a concept which is being developed for more than one upcoming movie. Also, a mention and description of the Raft prison, built specially for powered persons where the Avengers against the Sokovia Accords were kept in Captain America: Civil War was made, and that was also pretty awesome.
The plot is not as heart stopping as Kilgrave's story, perhaps because David Tennant was super superb as that character, but it's still heart stopping nonetheless. And though I'm just at the mid-point, I can't really see a happy ending for Jessica this time. In her own words, no matter how this ends, it won't be good.
Well, guess I have to keep watching to see. See you guys in six episodes!
