[Beware of spoilers!!!]
They should have warned us we were going to see a farce.
And that's my summary of the entire movie. Everything about it was super unrealistic, from the story to the characters. There was just too much sacrificed for the sake of comedy, and just too much that didn't make much sense. I mean, I'm supposed to believe the high class audience of an entertainment event bursts into cheers when a person is skewered in front of them? Puh-leese!
Don't even get me started on the characters. I think the cast was fine, but the script and directing were way off. How on Earth does someone who can't lie to save her life suddenly become an expert at keeping secrets under torture? And how do two persons who live an extraordinarily normal life begin to feel fly about killing people and toting guns in less than 24 hrs, without the least buffer time? Not to mention they were real losers and the girlest of girls to begin with.
And can someone please tell the writers that there can be such a thing as too many twists in a movie? That was one horrible mistake. The man whose death at the beginning set everything into motion returns at the end as the real bad guy. Oh, forget the inconsequential fact that we saw him die, and even if he didn't, was badly wounded. That doesn't matter at all. Neither does the fact that hacking a super encrypted government file is as simple as typing a few lines of code into the command prompt of a totally normal pc. Yeah, we do it everyday. Edward Snowden must be a god.
Not to say the movie wasn't funny--it definitely had its moments. As I said, perhaps if it had been marketed or shot as a farce, it might have hit the mark. As a normal action comedy though, the movie has a long way to go.
Perhaps the worst part of it were the violence and nudity that necessitated a R-rating. Did you really have to?
