It's Doggy-Dog Out Here
Following on his threat and vendetta with Lena Luthor, Morgan Edge seizes the opportunity to destroy her when a number of children in National City suddenly start falling ill with Lead poisoning, claiming the device she created to drive the Daxamites off Earth was the cause.
'Damage' is arguably one of the best episodes so far this season. Morgan Edge, played by Adrian Pasdar, proves to be a very compelling villain, barely hiding his agenda and plots to gain power and discredit Lena in vengeance. And he has absolutely no qualms with how he achieves this --even if it means outrightly killing children along the way. The episode also --finally!-- completely humanizes Lena. After hearing Morgan's accusations and confronting him in her own childrens' hospital, she breaks down completely. Then in her last effort at strength, she calls a press conference to address the situation, only to get shot at by a distraught mother whose son just took a turn for the worse. Believing herself guilty and losing faith in her ability to do any good, she holes herself up in Samantha's place, and quickly gets drunk. Still, Kara and Samantha go to work to clear her name, and it doesn't take long before they discover the true source of the illness --Morgan Edge, using one of his company's subsidiaries, had poisoned some of the childrens' pools in the city. Lena gets up to face him immediately, but is easily subdued and abducted. For inexplicable reasons, he places her in a drone set to pour some more chemical in the city's water supply, but Supergirl shows up and succeeds in rescuing both her and National City. In a final show of high villainy, Morgan kills the drone's controller in cold blood and pins everything on the dead man, then tells Supergirl to her face she can't do anything to stop him because she doesn't have what it takes.
It's also a very emotional episode for Alex and Maggie. After realizing they will never come to terms with each other's desire concerning kids, Alex calls off the relationship and the marriage. Although it's quite clear how much they love and want each other, the show tells us in the episode that more than just that is needed to sustain a real, long-term marriage. Alex is distraught after Maggie leaves, and Kara decides to get her away from the D.O.A, and the city... and take her home. On the other hand, Kara and Samantha get even closer this episode, and Lena and James seem to be getting even closer. We'll just have to wait and see if this particular romance blossoms, or not.
