El western es un género que si aún me falta ver grandes títulos, he intentado ponerme al día con unos cuantos, desde clásicos hasta modernos como Django de Tarantino. Es paseando por las posibilidades para ver en Netflix, que me llamó la atención este título. Estrenada en noviembre de 2021, siendo su director Jeymes Samuel.
The western is a genre that if I have yet to see major titles, I've tried to catch up on a few, from classics to modern ones like Tarantino's Django. It is wandering through the possibilities to watch on Netflix, that this title caught my eye. Released in November 2021, its director being Jeymes Samuel.
A los 11 años, Nat Love, ve como sus padres acaban siendo asesinados por Rufus Buck y sus compinches. Ya en el presente, luego de realizar una vendetta personal contra todos los que estuvieron en el trágico suceso, se entera que Rufus Buck, va a ser liberado de una condena perpetua. Es ahí con su grupo e inesperados aliados, que intentará concluir su destino, eliminando a Rufus Buck y a su banda.
At age 11, Nat Love, sees how his parents end up being killed by Rufus Buck and his cronies. Already in the present, after carrying out a personal vendetta against all those who were in the tragic event, he learns that Rufus Buck is going to be released from a life sentence. It is there with his group and unexpected allies, that he will try to conclude his destiny, eliminating Rufus Buck and his gang.
Una trama que principalmente muestra una historia de venganza, y que si bien intenta añadir otros elementos no sale de ese foco. A mi parecer, la película funciona principalmente en su primera parte, hasta antes de que se haga el primer encuentro del protagonista con Rufus. Luego de ello, todo baja demasiado el nivel, desde el interés de la historia, las escenas de acción e incluso la actuación.
A plot that mainly shows a story of revenge, and although it tries to add other elements, it doesn't get out of that focus. In my opinion, the film works mainly in its first part, until before the protagonist's first encounter with Rufus. After that, everything drops too much in level, from the interest of the story, the action scenes and even the acting.
Algo que comienza a restarle según avanza la película, es la cantidad de personajes que intentan dar importancia en la misma, algo que no funciona, pues se acaban pisando entre ellos, volviéndose al final intrascendentes. También no funciona el abuso de mezclar las escenas de acción con música, algo que si bien puede funcionar una o dos veces, el continuo uso lo hace agotador.
Something that begins to subtract as the film progresses, is the amount of characters that try to give importance in the film, something that does not work, because they end up stepping on each other, becoming inconsequential in the end. It also does not work the abuse of mixing the action scenes with music, something that may work once or twice, but the continuous use makes it exhausting.
Fuera de lo anterior quiero resaltar la actuación de Regina King como Trudy Smith, una de las villanas de esta historia, que logra encarnar bien al personaje y si me preguntan, desaprovechan para el buen trabajo que realiza.
Apart from the above, I want to highlight the performance of Regina King as Trudy Smith, one of the villains of this story, who manages to embody the character well and if you ask me, they do not miss for the good job she does.
Como mencioné anteriormente, esta película tiene un buen arranque y creo logra mantener un nivel bueno su primera parte, pero luego simplemente no se sostiene. Lo recomiendo a quien le guste el género, y quiera ver una historia de venganza.
As I mentioned before, this movie has a good start and I think it manages to maintain a good level its first part, but then it just doesn't hold up. I recommend it to anyone who likes the genre, and wants to see a revenge story.
