There are movies and franchises so rich in diverse, well-presented, and well-developed characters that they inspire me to focus on some of them because they offer so much to discuss within the genre in which their stories unfold. The thing is, Iβm not referring to the main characters; Iβm talking about those fleeting characters who appear on screen for such a brief moment but shine forever in our mindsβin those few seconds theyβre there, delivering such witty lines and, in this case, showing so much personality ππ
Doris the Ugly Stepsister is a character from the Shrek franchise who fits this description perfectly. She has only a fleeting moment on screen, but Iβm sure that when you see her in the thumbnail, many of you will immediately recognize her and recall her vividly in your memories, thanks to her famous scene in the movie Shrek 2
This franchise is charming because of how it positively and naturally reimagines characters from classic stories and shapes them in a very unique comedic style. Doris is a perfect example of what Shrek is all about as a project, and in fact, I hope the next installment gives us a little more of Dorisβit would be a pleasant surprise, though I doubt it would top her appearance in Shrek 2 ππ

Hereβs a video of me doing a lighthearted impression of Doris. In English I did the best I could haha π π , but in Spanish my impression is perfect ππππ»
Check it out and have some fun with this great addition to the review. I want to highlight two things in particular, I was really surprised to see that Larry King voices Doris, Iβm not American, but I know about Larryβheβs very famous, and I know who he is. So seeing him give Doris that raspy, masculine voice that contrasts with how feminine the character wants to beβ¦ is just hilarious haha ππ
In fact, Iβd never heard the movie in English beforeβIβve always watched it in Spanish And if youβre American, give the Latin American dub of Doris by Mario Arvizu a chance; in your mind, youβll know what sheβs saying, and Iβm sure itβll win you over.
The Mexican element adds a lot to the franchise, enriching it with colloquial expressions from that countryβwhich, in this case, I think is a great choice, like using the term βPapuchoβ ππ

Take a look at how significant Doris is in Shrek 2 in terms of how naturally things are portrayedβsheβs essentially a transgender character and has a positive impact on the movie. We all love her; her personality makes us laugh, and the storytelling feels natural. In fact, itβs a shame to me that Shrek doesnβt make more of this character, who I thinkβalong with the rest of the princessesβhas a lot to offer in a spin-off.
This point is objectively valid, since weβre currently living in a time when gender trends are all the rage. Doris is there to teach us a lesson on how to introduce these characters so theyβre well-receivedβensuring that, narratively speaking, the opposite effect isnβt created. I believe stories have well-established conventions that must be respected; if something doesnβt fit, it just doesnβt work.
Shrek 2, despite being a childrenβs film, gave us a master classβwithout even meaning to hahaβon how to incorporate the kind of diversity that genuinely enriches a story. She isnβt the protagonist, but in just a few seconds, she became legendary and beloved by every generation.
Because of this, we as an audience accept her, embrace her, and love our dear Doris and her charming, masculine-sounding female voice ππ
I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess, we called her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.
