This is a story where the innocence of childhood, friendship and humanity shine through despite the horrors of war. Story Summary
This story begins at the end of World War II, on a small island in Japan. Although the war is over, the island is occupied by Soviet troops. Among the children living on this island are two brothers, Junpei and Kanta. Their childhood is spent in nature, imagination and small joys. After the arrival of Soviet troops on the island, the lives of the local Japanese people change radically. Fear, uncertainty and limitations surround the entire area. Even during this difficult time, Junpei befriends a Soviet girl named Tanya. Despite the language and nationality differences, their friendship develops very naturally.
The story gradually shows how war changes the lives of children. Families are separated, people are relocated, and the simple joys of childhood are lost. However, through friendship and memories, Junpei finds inner strength. This story emphasizes human feelings more than the political aspects of war, especially the reality of war seen through the eyes of children.
My Review
A silent but deeply moving anime. There are no major war scenes, yet every moment is heart-wrenching. Although the story is told very simply, its emotions are very deep.
The animation style is soft, which fits the gloomy atmosphere of the story beautifully. The characters are very human, especially the feelings of the children are very realistic. This anime reminds us that the horrors of war are not written in numbers, but in people's memories. Junpei and Tanya's friendship shows that there is no such thing as an enemy, the enemy is created by the situation.
I think it is definitely an anime that everyone should watch. In today's era, war is not a surprise, but we see some of it in this anime, which is even more terrifying. That's why watching it will be a unique experience. I hope you like it.
