The Breadwinner (2017) – A Story That Stayed With Me | Review

source

For a long time I have been searching for a meaningful stories, because recently I have watched action-packed movies. They were fine but still I was yearning for something meaningful. For that reason I started watching "The Breadwinner (2017)". As a father of two young daughters, I find it nostalgic when I find myself looking for stories that reminds me of my family and how precious family is to me. To be honest, such moments makes me realize how family gives strength during the hardest times. I have been hearing about this animated film, from my niece. She requested me to watch it at least once and she knew I would like it. So it's an animated film carried a powerful message so I decided to watch it. After finishing it, I realized I had watched much more than just an animated film.

It was a beautiful film which depicted a serious story in a simple and emotional way. The animation was just mind blowing, in 2017 they have done such amazing animation which is quite unbelievable. It has proven that animation is not only for children. As an adult I have felt it very deep and honest way. The story begins with a young girl Parvana, who is fragile yet brave, trying her best to save her family and for that she was ready to go against everything. She faces responsibilities that no child should ever have to carry. Not for a moment I have ever felt that they have added unnecessary drama, every moment was filled with courage, hope and determination in a very natural way.

Parvana, is the heart of the entire film. She is fearless and makes difficult choices, I could feel that she was helpless and had no other option. Her journey felt so real that I ended up in tears. The last time I cried out of sorrow was when my father passed away and tears of joy was when my daughters were born. People who simply refuse to give up, Parvana proves that she is one of them.

Each characters in the story had very important roles because they shaped the story in a marvelous way. Parvana's father stands as a symbol of wisdom. I'm glad her father was truly a gentle man who never stopped teaching her the right things, he helped her to believe in her self and gave her the freedom she deserved. On the other hand, her mother was in pain yet she hides it to protect her children. She gave her children strength even though she needed it the most. Each family member contributes something meaningful in the story which made it feel more genuine. Even the supporting characters, whether kind or cruel, depicts the reality of the world, that how tough it is to live. To be honest, my blood was boiling because of the cruel characters. I was feeling to urge to do something, but I realized that was the motive of the film to make the audience feel all kind of emotions.

I appreciated the fact that the movie never loses sight of its main purpose. The film is about hope not only survival, it's also about dignity not only education. The film teaches us the importance of never letting fear destroy our humanity. Sometimes a simple stories like this can change one's mindset and help people keep moving forward when life becomes too heavy.

However, this movie had touched my soul. I was watching with my two young daughters, they liked it very much and also cried with me. The film is very emotional, anyone who will feel connected with the character Parvana they will feel the pain. I'm glad that my daughters are growing up with opportunities that many children around the world still struggle to find. I feel bad for the children who are not safe, don't have the facility for education or have the freedom to dream.

The Breadwinner will leave a long lasting impression on anyone. I would recommend it to people who likes strong family values. If you want to watch an animated film with your children and family then this is the right choice for you.
