Hello movie lovers, I am back with another amazing movie review. Today, I have watched Life of Pi again after a long time. The last time I watched it was when it was released in 2012 and now I have re-watched it in 2026. It is one of those movies that stays in your mind long after it ends. I couldn't forget about it even if I wanted to. Basically, the movie is based on like an adventure story where a boy tries to survive in the middle of the ocean. But that's not it, this is also a story about faith, courage, hope and the strength of the human mind. Once you watch this movie you will definitely feel many emotions. It made me wonder how far a person can go to survive and how important hope is even during the hardest times.
The plot: The story beings with a young boy who's name is Pi Patel, his family owns a zoo. After a terrible shipwreck, he accidentally got into the lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker and he was all alone yet there were some other animals on the boat as well. Pi's life got harder as everyday he would fear being eaten by the tiger. There was no food or anything for survival, it was getting difficult to stay alive. But he still manages to collect water and tries to protect himself even if he had to hurt the tiger but he couldn't do that. He slowly learns how to live with the tiger instead of fearing it all the time.

The movie is just mind-blowing it is much deeper than it appears. In the beginning I thought it's about surviving in the ocean only. But it was more about how a person's faith and determination can keep them moving forward even when everything seems lost. I have noticed that no matter how difficult it gets Pi never gives up. There was some times where he was feeling scared and hungry but he kept trying to survive. That positive attitude made me admire his character more.
Also, visually the movie was stunning. At first the ocean looks frightening but in the next scene it looks peaceful. Every shot was taken beautifully, the camera angles were perfect and the colors variation was just amazing. I couldn't realize that it was all fake but everything seemed so real, and the reflections on the water made every scene enjoyable to watch. What I liked most about the setting was the background music because it was making me feel the emotions as if I was there with Pi.

Honestly, I got mesmerized by the night when the ocean was glowing with thousands of bright jellyfish then suddenly out of nowhere a huge whale appeared and it jumped out of the water. I was shocked when I saw it for the first time as it was a beautiful scene. I have hardly seen such beautiful scenes in a movie. The sky was filled with stars and the giant whale created a magical moment for the audiences. I paused for a moment just to admire how incredible it looked. It reminded that nature can still show breathtaking beauty even in survival mode.
I liked the bond between Pi and Richard Parker. Even though they were enemies in the beginning as the tiger was a wild animal and he was a threat to Pi's life. But as they spend time together Pi learned how to live with the tiger and they developed a relationship which can not be explained. It was not like a pet and owner relationship, it was more than that. It was like they both were equal and they were friends. This movie showed that fear can sometimes turn into respect when we learn to understand it.

The ending also made me think for a long time. Because it gave us the audience to decide what we want to believe. I found one theory interesting about Richard Parker. That the tiger was never present in the boat but was a symbol of Pi's survival instinct. It was included by Pi to describe his situation, I also think that Richard Parker represents the strong and fearless side of Pi that was willing to do anything to stay alive. It was only him who was alive on the lifeboat. I picked this theory because Pi when he got older, he tells another version of the story without any animals. That made this theory even more believable. Many audience like me they believe the same theory.
Also, the movie never tells us which story is true. It could be that Pi hid the animal part because no one would believe him or it was never real. I really liked fan theories because it made me think about the story even after the movie was over. I feel the movie depicts that sometimes people create stories to help themselves deal with loss, pain and difficult memories. So, I would happily recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys thoughtful stories and a powerful message.
