If you love horror movies you are going to love this movie. I've seen it on many recommended horror movies lists, but only now I decided to check it out, and it was definitely worth my time.

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) is a South Korean horror movie written and directed by Kim Jee-woon. In the movie, Su-mi and Su-yeon come home after apparently being away for a while. They come to live with their father and new step mother. Things seem to not go well as the father is emotionally distant and the stepmother doesn't get along with the daughter. Things not so quickly begin to unravel.

I have to start with saying that this is a beautiful movie. The colors, the scenery, the camera positioning, it is visually unique and capturing. This is not a dark, scary or gory horror movie.

The acting is superb. Really. You can only really appreciate it at the end of the movie, but appreciate it you shall.

This is half a horror movie and half a family drama movie that would have made Freud really happy. There are no cheap scare jumps, this movie builds itself up and then it surprises you.

I don't want to give anything away, you have to see it for yourself. Just don't watch the American remake. I just saw the trailer for that and it looked awful. Don't be mistaken, only this version is great. The more horror movies that I see, the more I realize that I prefer foreign horror movies to American once.

I give it 8/10
