This is another unfamiliar horror movie that is surprisingly really good. In Wikipedia the movie is described as found footage anthology horror film, I must say that this description did not particularly excited me. I feel that the found footage genre has overstayed its welcome and it’s hard to be a scarier horror anthology than V/H/S.
This movie is completely different than V/H/S. Although it too is composed of a few short films, they are relatively long and they all revolve around the same concept. This concept is really explored – I mean they really talk about it. This movie suffers from too much exposition, it explains too much of the mythology to the audience. It is usually a bad idea in horror movies, because when you know things, they are less scary. Not in this movie. The more you know and see, it just gets scarier. And the design is not even that original. But the actors and the script carry the movie, because at the end of the day, I think that the concept of the movie is highly original.
The biggest downside of this movie, is that we are probably going to get a sequel as director/writer Michael McQuown is set to direct/write The Darker Paths, which currently has no description so maybe it is not a sequel. You should still give this movie a try.
This movie gave me nightmares, the best recommendation for a horror movie I can give. It is now available for streaming.
